Is there a find word function on safari yet? Really annoying when unjust need to find a term on a website and i have to scroll around forever instead of ctl+f.

I'm really not sure how Apple (or anyone else, for that matter) is going to blow anybody out of the water with any future phone release. I think we're looking at incremental improvements from here on out and I really doubt we're going to have any "Wow!" moments again.

You probably would have said the same thing before the iPhone came out. I mean it's just a phone right? What more can they do? Don't underestimate the power of innovation. I think the iPhone 5 is a good bump up, not mind blowing but good added features. Definitely worth it if you have an iPhone 4, and probably worth it if you have a 4S.

Sure, I agree with that. I ordered a 5 and I'm giving Mrs CE my 4S. But even with that said, when I saw what the 5 included, I didn't think "Wow, that's amazing."

How did you do that exactly? My wife is eligible for an upgrade in early October and I'm not due until January. I would like to order a 5 for myself and then sell my 4. But I would need to use her upgrade. Will AT&T play ball and let the newly activated phone have my sim in it?

So i order it for her and when it gets here do I (1) activate it under her line, take out that sim an put it in her current phone and replace it with my sim or (2) simply put my sim in the new phone and proceed as normal, never activating the new sim they sent. ?

I have never ordered a phone online before so not sure how it works exactly, but I can imagine you can just put your SIM into the phone and it should work. However, I believe the new iPhone 5 might use an even smaller SIM card so you might have to go to an AT&T store anyways to transfer your data to the new smaller sim (contacts, etc). If you have any problems when you go into a AT&T store they should help you out and not give you any problems. Families cross upgrade all the time.ETA: If you have only 2gb worth of photos, video, and data that you want to transfer ANYONE on AT&T can use the AT&T Mobile Transfer app (so you can skip going to the store). Simply DL the mobile transfer app to your old phone, upload your data to the cloud, then on the new phone DL the AT&T mobile Transfer app within 7 days (I believe, but there is a time limit) and download what you uploaded. This service is limited I believe to one per upgrade.ETA2: Actually...if they do use a smaller SIM card you have to go to the AT&T store in order to get your phone number assigned to that SIM.

When I ordered my 4S, I upgraded using her upgrade, but I simply activated it using my number. But that was with Verizon. Might be different with AT&T.

I went over this with the AT&T guy. When you get the phone, do not go through the regular activation process. Instead, you will be doing a transfer and using a phone number included inside the box. Over the phone, they will swap phone numbers between the two devices and activate the way you intend. Like No.16 said, the iPhone 5 uses a mini sim, so you can no longer swap sim cards like you could recently.

I've done it both ways, if you any problems activating it on your line when it comes just call AT&T. The only hassle I had this last time around was that AT&T tried to turn off my Unlimited Data and I had to call them back and get them to reactivate that (I used my wife's upgrade cause she used mine earlier in the year.)
 
So what will be the best way for me to get all of my apps, etc. from my 4S to my 5 and from Mrs CE's Incredible to my old 4S? I guess my contacts, calendars, music, photos, etc will automatically sync to my 5 via my iTunes account. But what about my apps? Will i need to go back through itunes and check which apps i want on my 5?

And what moving info from Androd to iOS? Is Verizon contact backup and restore her best option?

I found that curious as well. My guess is it affects the antennae.

I thought that was pretty stupid and has been bothering me since I read about it. The connection is going to be in the way when holding the phone in your left hand. Doesn't make sense from a user standpoint.

Also will make it tough to hook up a speaker or headphones when it's docked/charging.

This is how the iPod touch has been, right? Cost savings in manufacturing by arranging them the same way??
 
Headphone jack on the bottom makes more sense from a usability standpoint. It's just awkward dangling off the top and gets in the way. I've always hated it.

 
One of Apple's flaws in design. The headphone jack should have always been on the side. Makes too much sense to have it around the volume buttons instead of top or bottom. I hope the iP6 has it on the side.

Stop obsessing over the 6 when the 5 hasn't even shipped yet. A redesign is at least 2 years away.
 
I currently have a Blackberry and will elligible for upgrade early next year. I had bought my wife a iPhone 4S earlier this year. I love the apple products and will definitely get an iPhone when I upgrade. Reading through this thread, I'm thinking if the iPhone 4 is free for a contract renewal, there's nothing on the iPhone 5 that would be worth paying the $? difference when I upgrade.

Mainly what I use a phone for is:

Email

GPS

---

Web browsing

picture/video taking

The camera on my BB is so bad, I'd probably do more of that with a better camera.

There is no turn by turn GPS on the 4.

The camera upgrade will blow your mind. There are a couple of things not getting much attention on the 5 that I think are noteworthy. LTE and the new chipset should deliver a faster performance than any iPhone before. Yeah yeah, android already had 4g...but iPhone didnt and now it does and it's going to be wicked fast. The web should work like having wifi everywhere. Next, call quality should be much improved as well with the new 3 speaker system and a redesign of the antenna. Finally, the aspect ratio on the screen will improve Netflix and movie watching. No, that isn't a good reason to buy a phone but it is nice to have. I'll be upgrading simply for the speed boost.

On the side seems like a bad idea to me. I would think that would cause a lot more pressure on the cord when it's in a pocket. Plus it would make the "footprint" wider when the headphones are plugged it.

I have to disagree here. A side jack would be horrible if you exercise (arm band) or walk around with it in your pocket. Sure you could use headphones with a 90 degree jack but then the cord would potentially be covering your volume buttons.

Right, but next year likely would be a new iteration of the 5, rather than a redesign. So iPhone5s next year, and then the 6 in two years.Anybody get a shipping notice or any confirmation of delivery date yet?

Maybe you guys didn't understand, I was trying to talk myself into the FREE phone.Thanks for the info though. Those are some good reasons to pay for it. It will be a phone I'll use for a couple years, and having had the Blackberry for the last couple, it has been a PITA to have a phone that was outdated from day 1.
 
Finally, Maynard Um with Wells Fargo Securities said in a note to investors on Monday that he expects Apple will face supply constraints of the iPhone 5 at launch. Apple did acknowledge on Monday that demand for the iPhone 5 currently exceeds supply, but the company also said the "majority of preorders" will be delivered to customers on Sept. 21.

New orders of the iPhone 5 are not scheduled to arrive until October, which would push those sales to Apple's December quarter. Leading up to the holiday shopping season, Um expects Apple will resolve its supply constraints "rather quickly" and catch up to consumer demand for the iPhone 5.

My order was placed through Apple within the first half hour they were open for orders and I've still not received a shipping notification. Says 'preparing for shipment' when I try to track it. I wouldn't sweat it. Normally they just sit around in a distribution center somewhere until the last day or two anyway.

A lot of the first(early) pre-orders have been notified. Majority coming from China with a few I've seen being shipped from Tennessee and Illinois. :confused:

Yea I believe they were all apple store orders. Rud, if you go to the UPS website, track your order by reference number which would be your cell phone number. And you can get the shipping info that way.

Interesting.It says it left China yesterday, spent about 5 hours in Hong Kong, then spent 3 hours in Korea, and recently landed in Anchorage Alaska.Scheduled to deliver in Seattle on 9/21.
 
What's interesting to me is that I fully expect current iPhone users to think the 5 is a vastly improved experience. LTE and a faster chip set should immediately garner the reaction of "I can't believe how slow my 3GS/4//4s was!".

 
If I can really get what people seem to be getting for a 4s I may just say #### it and get a factory unlocked one. Probably not.

Life's priorities are so strange. No issue spreading out a G on some random nfl teasers, but kick in 200 bucks for something I use virtually constantly gives me pause.
