The Apple iPhone Thread (3 Viewers)

So apple maps is garbage right now?
Seems that way. I just updated my iPad and wanted to check it out. My very own street is wrong as are the gas stations near by. Also whereas google had the lot lines drawn, imaps is just a big gob of land. I wish I didn't upgrade the iPad to ios 6. I doubt I ever use Siri on it. What else does it do for iPad even?

From Engadget:

To test this we lined up an iPhone 4S next to an iPhone 5 and ran both through a number of syncs with large files. Pulling 5.5GB of data from iTunes to the iPhone 4S took five minutes and six seconds on average. Syncing those same files to the iPhone 5 took three minutes and 57 seconds on average. So, nearly 20 percent faster, but we're not sure how much of this is due to the new connector and how much can be attributed to faster internals in the phone itself.
Wait...you guys still plug your phone in to transfer files to it? WTF?

Maps got me to where I needed to go today. What's wrong with it?
Worked ok for me too, but apparently there are quite a few glitches. The 3D view at times is pretty comical.
I gotcha. I'm stuck on a 4, and it seems like an upgrade over google so far this week. It loads a helluva lot faster than google maps did when scrolling around and hasn't gotten me lost yet, so that's a bonus.

Here is a weird unrelated thing: my iPhone 4 home screen is telling me that today is Wednesday the 19th. The lock screen is correct, but the calander app says 19. Odd.

I've noticed that the text message receive time stamp is always a minute or two off from the phone time lately. It may or may not be related, but it's definitely weird. Did you try rebooting?

Do you people live in flyover country or something? Apple Maps is even spot on in down here in hickville, TN.

Loaded iOS6. So how do I get rid of VIP mailbox?

The new maps aren't bad, but I prefer the Google Maps: Google> Apple >> MapQuest

IP5 or SIII?? my old BB finally died. Either will be quite an upgrade and I don't really know what either provides.
THe SIII won't make phone calls and gives you ear herpes. The iPhone 5 comes with Keeley Hazell's iphone phone number and the ability to log in and view her iphone camera via Facetime whenever you want. :nobrainer:

Anyone know when the stores will start getting them on display? I have to go buy the wife a gift at the place next to the apple store and want to make sure I stay far away if they will have them out already.

Ordered and ready to go. Same problem here with the shipping addy, Rud. It says we should be allowed to edit that once our order processes.

And what's with "available to ship: 2 weeks"???? What is everyone else's delivery estimates?
Apple site sold out initial stock in the first hour. That means you are getting it 2-3 weeks after launch date.I'm still refreshing ATT site, hoping when it comes back up they still have initial stock orders available.
ATT site is back up for me. Just got pre-order to go through, with expected delivery on launch date.
Checked on my order status and it's finally updated and has a UPS tracking number, with expected delivery of tomorrow  Can someone who has already done the following confirm the right way to do it, as I'm seeing different suggestions:

Two iPhones, everything seperate (music, contacts, etc.) except I don't want to have to buy 2 of every app.

Does anyone know roughly how long from the time you order (through AT&T) to how long the tracking information shows? I ordered in Friday (online) and it still has nothing.

TIA

DUDE!
:excited:

I'm now trying to talk myself in to the 32G even though I rarely use my phone as an iPod. i had 1900 pictures on my ip4 and started deleting them last night and the phone sped up quickly. It had been a bit slower since it was so close to full. So even though I've had it for 16 months and don't use the storage for anything other than photos, which are easy to move to a computer, I'm trying to talk myself in to spending an extra $100 on 16G of capacity that I don't really need. :bag:

No, see.. you need to post a rant about how you won't be home that day and that you might have to wait a few extra hours to pick it up.

We are going to get that right? maybe not this time but next time? So true about the last couple iphone releases but yet they still sell like hotcakes.
But remember -- that's because people are stupid, NOT because it's a better product. Lemmings!
Not all...but some people are stupid and want the iPhone simply because its an iPhone. My friend's wife has no clue about technology...she knows the iPhones are "cool" so she turns her nose up at other phones that do anything hers does (which is why he usually cons her into taking his old iPhone while he upgrades to the next).

Now he is pretty knowledgeable and has had Android, iPhones, and a Windows phone for work and prefers the iPhone over the Android for his use.

Though, he does like the windows phone for his work phone and email integration with their stuff.

For my wife, the iPhone is perfect. Does what she wants and is easy for her to use. She never really got the hang of the Android.

For me...love my Evo and Android OS...have no problem with the iPhone.

Am between the SIII and the iPhone 5 but likely getting the 5.

Few reasons.

Battery life...screen size. While I am used to the bigger screen of the Evo...IMO, the SIII is just too big. I think the 5 got the screen just right...perfect blend of big enough screen, great clarity, without being too big.

That and we have added more Apple products in the house with her 4s, the iPad, my iPod...and likely a mac in the next year as I move the Sony laptop to the kids (not that they care about any laptop anymore with the iPad around.)

Google maps still available as an app?
Not yet. I'm not sure if it's because it's Pittsburgh, the iPad, or my misuse, but I couldn't do the 3D "flyover" on iPad. All you see are the rooftops. Is there some special pinch move I need to do?
Flyover is only good for metro areas. Downtown and midtown memphis have it.... out east in the burbs where I live does not.
 I was looking at downtown Pittsburgh.Obviously a small sample, I just got a bad impression due to my own street being incorrect (they combined the prefix and suffix of my street and another), the gas station doesn't say BP or Valero, rather the LLC who owns the franchise, and the non-flyover of the downtown.

p.s.

GOT FEDEX # TODAY! CURRENTLY IN IND. DELIVERY BY 3PM TOMORROW!

Two weeks ago I was trying to record video at this event where I helped rehab a house for a disabled vet. My iphone4 16gb ran out of space in the middle of the flag ceremony. I was pissed. I figure with the better camera and the size of ios and apps increasing (along with me putting some music and transferring pics I already have on the 4) that 16gb just isn't enough anymore. 32 is the new sweet spot, especially if your phone will be your main camera.

I'd like to get some advice on this as well. How many devices can share an Apple ID, and can you sync them with different playlists, contacts, etc?

Maybe I need 64 to be safe....

Yea, that's pretty bad. The lack of detail (does Apple not show one-way streets!?! That info is useful) is a problem and is immediately noticeable. They need an update quick or Google can't get their app out there fast enough. Hopefully this is the only disappointment, but they just really took a step backwards on one of the more useful aspects of the iphone.

As long as you share the Apple ID, I believe it's 5 devices. We have 2 iphones and 2 ipads all linked to the same Apple ID and they are set up to auto sync app downloads, music, etc. You can set all this up in iTunes and pick/choose what syncs and doesn't sync. You can also set up some of these on the iCloud - photostream, contacts, Safari bookmarks, etc.
