The Apple iPhone Thread (1 Viewer)

I like the update they showed. most of it is cosmetic and only a few of the functions are things id use, but so what? I like my iPhone. I am hopeful someone comes out with something revolutionary and new, but (example) having the phone scroll down in an email because my eyes go to the bottom of the page isn't so exciting that I'm wetting myself going to a new platform.

Yes, a lot of the updates was taken from other apps and ideas that people have blogged about. Ok, fine. And? The control panel is a good addition, and useful. Swiping in email is useful. Better multitasking is useful.

So can I do a "find" within safari yet?
Are you talking about a search on a webpage? If so, you can enter your term in the safari search box and scroll down to the bottom where "On This Page" appears.
Yes.What do I need to do? My search window in safari is just google.
Just type what you want to search for in that google box and without clicking "search" scroll down to the bottom. You'll see "On This Page" and "Find XXXXXXXX". Click on Find XXXXXXXX.

Soooo, does anyone else have/had the issue of your laptop not recognizing your phone when you connect?
Any solution or just keep unplugging/plugging in until it sees it? Pain in my ###.On top of that my volume down button ceased working.
Not sure if we are having the same issue. Mine was that I could connect my phone, and it would recognize it basically as if I attached a camera. I could download pics/vids but that was it. It wouldn't interface with my iTunes.

So, now here is what I do:

1. Go into the Services section of your computer (I have XP on mine so it is Start - Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Services).

2. Find "Apple Mobile Service" and click the restart button on the left.

3. Once it is restarted, start up iTunes.

4. Once iTunes has started, plug in the iPhone.

That fixes it for me. I just moved Services into my pinned programs in the start menu to make it easier on me now.

.

Is this "safe" to do for the average joe?

Thanks PH, I'll try that next time it happens. My problem is it doesn't even recognize the phone, won't even charge it. But I'm heading to the Apple store today for the volume down button issue, so I'll see what they say as well. Thanks.

This same thing happened to my wife's 4. I just gave her my old 4s. The motherboard quit. I took out the battery and the 30 pin connector and both of those were ok.

If your phone charges when it is completely powered off then your phone is shot and you will never get connected to itunes again.

Most likely you broke it when you dropped it and didn't realize it. She thinks hers started acting up when she dropped hers when it was case-less briefly.

Not really.

nope
Darn. They're just trying to get rid of jailbreakers, aren't they?
Upgrading an OS is necessary sometimes. Problem is, OS upgrades aren't "sexy" and you really don't "see" the benefits. It's sorta like the framing work or electrical work in a housing remodel. You don't "see" that money in the product. I'd say a good part of it is patching holes and trying to prevent jailbreakers. That's about as productive as the war on drugs and I really don't understand why Apple wastes it's money on trying to keep the environment as closed as possible.

I'm running iOS7 beta. It's gorgeous.
Any concerns for an average joe like me to install it?Also, will all of my apps port over to ios7 if I install it? I won't lose anything will i? Would love to install it just don't want to lose anything or possibly #### up my phone. It says you can't go back to ios6 and that has me concerned. Thanks for any info.

Did ya use the link above or some other means? Any issues with stabilty/lag thus far? iP5?
I used the link. Couple of "crashes" early, but it's been ok since I restarted again. Pretty elegant interface. Haven't had that much of a chance to play with it yet. Listened to a couple of the new radio stations.

One minor glitch I noticed is that the play button in control center doesn't change to a pause button after you press play.

Tried to be sneaky and upgrade straight to 7 without restoring to 6.1.4 first... oops. Can't activate.Currently downloading current version of iTunes so my phone will talk to iTunes so I can restore back to iOS6 so i can force restore to iOS7. GB haxxxors.

Was all your music, apps, photos etc still there? Now you can't backup correct? Or even revert back to ios6 now right?

hold down "option" when hitting restore in itunes and you can browse to whichever file you want to restore (iOS7).

Everything was there. Not sure about backing up. I certainly can restore it to the backup I created right before updating.

 Cool thanks, this part of the download page scared me:

This is a pre-release version of iOS 7 beta for iPhone and iPod touch. Devices updated to iOS 7 beta can not be restored to earlier versions of iOS.

Cross, I'm already updated to the latest ios6.1.4. Not sure what it means to "restore" to 6.1.4, since I'm already there. Did you do anything to your phone thru itunes before you installed ios7? Sorry for all the questions, I just don't wanna #### my #### up. THnaks.

Yeah, I was already at 6.1.4, so I didn't do anything but download the file and do the update. And I was assuming that I could always do a restore and go backwards to 6.1.4. Maybe not?

Reading the replies on that page, people are saying they can restore back.

One more question, I click "shift" + update and can't find the ios7 file. It's a .dmg file, but it's looking for a .ipsw file.

I think if your using Windows you need to convert the file.

Sorry, I'm on an iMac, so I can't help with that.

After much trickery trying to get the phone into DFU mode I finally got it to download 6.1.4 and restore from my macbook. Now setting up 6.1.4 as new (per original instructions) and going to give 7 one more try. Hopefully since I set up as new it wont give the DEV ID error. TAKE 2 on OS7...

I didn't set anything up as new and the update worked fine for me.

Yeah I gathered that the first time you said it. Congrats on that. I tried and it didn't work for me, so I'm gonna go ahead and try to follow the instructions I linked to earlier in the thread. That cool with you?
