The Apple iPhone Thread (4 Viewers)

I can set my wife's iphone directly next to my ipad and run a speedtest using my home wifi

Iphone comes in between 20-30 mb/s

Ipad comes in below 5 mb/s and sometimes below 1 mb/s

Why is the ipad so much slower?

This is an old issue I think. It's a router setting problem. Let me see if I can dig it up. What type of router do you have?

Had an old wrt54g and tried unsuccessfully to fix it so I just upgraded to an asus rt-n66u

Where's goonsquad when you need him?? I downloaded the new os onto my iPod to see what all the fuss was about. I don't get it. Nothing earth shattering (good or bad). I do have a recommendation for Apple though...instead of handling these cosmetic changes via complete OS change, why not just go to "themes" of some sort. Seems a whole lot easier and I know it'd be cheaper.

Try turning off the Quality Of Service Manager (QOS) in your traffic manager in this router. Certain routers call this "Multi Media Services". If you happen to see both of these as an option make sure they are off.

Best Buy to sell 5C for $50. Well I think you pay normal $99 then get a $50 gift card. Radio Shack to sell it for $50, and Walmart will sell it for $45. With Walmart's sales tax practice, that makes it a great deal.

Over the weekend, returned my wife's 5C to Target, then drove to Walmart and bought a 5C there. $80 savings.

I really like the 5c. It feels very sturdy and solid and has good weight. I fully expect the next iPad announcement (next month I think) to include various colors of the iPad mini as well.

Teacher wife says none of her kids would be caught dead with a 5c.
would or wouldntMy 8th graders seem to like them
Wouldn't. Perception is they are cheap and for poors.

Most are sticking with 5 if dad won't spring for the gold 5s.

Sales of 5s are greatly below target.
I hope your wife doesn't teach math 'cos she'll have her work cut out for her with those students if she does.

It's a crazy world when anyone thinks the 5c is cheap and they think the fake looking gold equates to cool/classy/whatever. Maybe they could sell more of the 5c if they just glued a bunch of glass cut to look like diamonds?

I don't think that's the definition of cheap he was using.

iphone 5, I'm getting inaccurate battery life readings. It will tell me 10% remaining, I plug in then it reads 22%.
normal towards the low end of SOC%
Really, so no concern? Thought my phone was going bad, which % do I believe?
The % is not an absolute %, but a prediction of where you are based on behavior. If you are at 10% after a very high load and then plug in it will adjust your SOC higher to where it is closer to the actual SOC. SOC below about 20% is conservative, above 80 it is aggressive.

Anytime I get under 20% it seems I'm less than an hour from a dead battery. But it may stay at 100% after a full charge for an hour.

Just made the switch from the iPhone 4 to the Galaxy Note 3. Saw literally nothing added to the new iPhones that seemed an improvement, so I went to try my first Android phone. It's my first day with it and I can't remember a purchasing decision that I've been more happy with. Only thing I might miss are some of my old apps, but most of them seem to be on the Android store anyway.

You had a 4 & saw no improvement in later generations? C'mon man. Use whatever device you like but that is pure bs. I almost switched & like the Nokia 1920 & HTC One but ended up with the 5s . Going from the 4 to the 5s is a huge leap in performanceThere is really no wrong choice from the top 5-6 phones

I used my friend's 5s for a while before making my decision and I don't agree with you that it was a huge leap in performance to my 4. While I agree there are a lot more quality phones out there, I don't feel Apple has upgraded their iPhone with anything that would make me want to upgrade to their current versions and I've been hoping the 5s would have been that leap, but I kept getting dissappointed. The Note 3 however, did not disappoint me. Maybe the 'new phone high' will wear off in a few weeks, and if it does, I'll report back what I think, but right now I'm extremely happy.

I can see what pots is saying. The 5 or 5s may be a lot faster than the 4 but that is not something that makes me want to upgrade. I don't need Siri and the screen size on the 5 just doesn't jump at me either.

For me, I'm staying with an iPhone based on the unlimited plan I have with AT&T. My son watches a ton of Netflix and its nice to have the unlimited. In fairness, I have not researched if I can keep the unlimited with Android, but I'll go on a limb and say probably not.

So now it's a wait and see thing for me. I have the 4, still have not upgraded to 7 and can't really ask for anything else. Hoping the 6 has some changes to upgrade since I have been eligible for one for a few months.

The unlimited is most likely tied to your account, not to what type of phone you buy. I have AT&T with the grandfathered unlimited data and use Android, and I could switch to iPhone no problem (except then I'd have to use an iPhone, of course).

Thanks maelstrom. Definitely makes a switch a little more attractive now. I'll still wait to see what the 6 looks like. As I said, I'm pretty happy with what the 4 gives me.

There's a lot of performance upgrades for me in the combo of going from 4S to 5S with the shortcuts of iOS7. Including apps that have updated to 7. As for screen size, I'm fine with the iPhone's size. I've seen the bigger phones and I can't think of why I'd like to carry that around. I'm sure that I'd enjoy the screen for many uses, especially since I've started reading books on the phone (though it's not a flagship use), but the extra personal space it takes is less than my enjoyment I'd get out of it. If I need a bigger screen for something in particular, I can just bring my ipad.

This is exactly my point. FWIW, Android has a program similar to Siri and the fingerprint scanner is overkill and unnecessary for me. I was worried about losing my unlimited data plan with AT&T as well, so I called them first and confirmed you can go from Apple to Android and keep the unlimited data plan no problem. Really the only thing making me think about staying with Apple was the $25 in apps that I'd have to repurchase, but that's a drop in the bucket when getting a new phone that is clearly the best phone out there for me.

The other day I noticed my battery life was at 38%. Within 5 minutes, while typing out an email, the battery drained to 20% and said low battery.

I plugged it in and the battery life said 37%. I unplugged it and it said low battery and 19%.

Anyone else having a similar issue? It's not the new iPhone 5, and it's only about a year old, if that.

I have the regular 5 and it's done this a few times the past couple of weeks. I'm assuming its a bug with the software that's calculating the %.

Interesting. I've never seen it happen that way before and I've had an iPhone since they first came out. Is this new?

Yes
Cool. Well now I feel better. I guess. I'm really not sure what to make of this information now. I feel like I'm being lied to by my phone.
