The Apple iPhone Thread (4 Viewers)

I spoke with a rep who said porting the number over from another carrier is a instant thing, is that true?
Yup.

Two years ago my wife and I wanted to get on the same cell phone plan. I was coming from AT&T, she was an "add a line" on her mother's account which was with Verizon already. Moving my number was nothing more than a few keystrokes on the guy's computer. Removing her from her mother's plan and staying with Verizon took no less than 4 phone calls and the requirement that her mother make the call herself......

Awesome. Now it comes down to the 64GB at $199 (net after tradein) or 128GB at 299. Invariably I'm going to end up kicking myself for not dropping the measly $100 to double the size of the phone... so I'll likely go for the 128GB and be done with.

Ugh... I'm gonna be a phablet dork... I feel dirty.

I feel like I don't even know you anymore.

It's over... I'm this guy. I might as well get a belt clip.

Out of morbid curiosity I took the template and cut out a hunk of ~1/4" thick cardboard in the dimensions of the 6+ and checked it out in pocket. No problem in dress slacks. May be a bit snug in jeans... will see. May be a "back pocket" thing in that case.
IS the template to scale? I know it says it but I didn't measure correctly or it is slightly off on the 6+ on screen and width (dead on with the other two).
The exterior dimensions were off? Or the screen was off?
Both...slightly. I got 5 5/16 on the diag screen instead of 5.5 and about .2 inch off on the width of the device.

Just hit the Verizon store and played with the note... It's cartoonish big but it will fit surprisingly comfortably in my pocket.

He looked over my iPhone 5 (pretty scuffed up but works fine) and said it's no problem and I would get the $200 credit even since it's a cspire phone (not compatible w many networks.

Guy gave me his business card with his mobile number, and assured me that even though it's gonna be slammed tomorrow if I let him know I'm close he will make sure to get me in and out quickly. I'm assuming he will get a commission judging by his motivation level.
You had the note 4 in hand? Curious because the dimensions for the device are about dead on with the 6+.

I don't know if it was the note 3 or note 4.. don't recall for sure. Even the note 3 is still damn near dead on as well. But yeah... it's a lot of screen.

As an aside i tinkered with android for 10 mins or so on the device... still not a fan.

Apple Insider has made an even better "size picker" than mine (which was a shot in the dark based on rumored spec sizes from a month ago).

Apple Insider iPhone 6 Size Picker
Your 6 and 6+ measurements are pretty much the same...but their 5S is the exact same height as my 4S.
I put my 5 on top of the 5s outline and it's not right; my 5 is bigger. That said, holy #### the 6+ is huge. My 5 almost fits inside the 6+ screen.

At least you can take comfort in the fact that you won't have the built-in stylus.

(I actually really do like my stylus, but recognize it adds to the dork factor).

For guys who are contemplating it, the bigger the screen the better. If you can get an iphone with a big screen, do it and dont look back

Its not too big, it will fit fine in your pocket and you will be forever grateful that you did it

I can not even use my wifes iphone now that I have the note 3. In fact, I saw a phone the other day that had a bigger screen and I got jealous

Phones are supposed to be small.

Tablets are supposed to be big.

How big does a phone get before it's too big?

I have a built in stylus... it's called a finger  ;)

I think a lot of people that buy the 6 are going to be disappointed that they didn't get the 6+.
Why? 20mm more screen corner to corner, and improved battery life. Anything else I'm not aware of software/hardware wise?
The camera on the 6+ is a lot better.
link?
The 6+ has optical image stabilization. The 6 does not.

Image stabilization is also a key feature when recording video, as it helps keep handheld footage steady. The iPhone 5s supported digital stabilization, and that technology carries through to the iPhone 6. But the iPhone 6 Plus features an optical stabilization system that moves the image sensor to compensate for movement when recording video or capturing still images. The sensor shift system is similar to what Pentax employs in its D-SLR lineup. It allows Apple to implement physical stabilization without having to design a lens with moving elements, which would add size, weight, and complexity to the phone.

Real-World Expectations

Physical stabilization usually nets better results when compared with digital, so iPhone photographers and videographers should give strong consideration to the iPhone 6 Plus. Optical stabilization should improve the sharpness of images in low light (assuming your subject is stationary), and do a better job smoothing handheld video. The Plus's larger physical size and slightly heftier weight will also aid you in holding it steady. It's still too early to make a definitive decision, but based on my experience, I'd say that the iPhone 6 Plus will net better images in challenging light, and smoother handheld video regardless of lighting.

Still not enough for me to justify an extra $100 and being a phablet guy.

I printed out a template from a few sources, but when I measure the screens diagonally, they all are barely 5" on the 6+ (and 4.25" on the 6.) Is this like TV's, where a 40.5" screen is a "42-inch" class TV? Or am I getting bad templates?

I love my wallet-backed case for my 5. I just carry my phone, 3 credit cards, DL and a $20 bill. My fear is going to a 6+ means going back to carrying a wallet, because a similar case for the 6+ would add even more size to an already big phone.

that equals "a lot" better?

Yeah...it's the reason I'm going that way over the 6. Basically becomes a great point and shoot camera/videocamera

I think I'm going with the smaller one. My wallet is basically the same width, but a obviously shorter than the 6+ and I just don't think I'd ever feel comfortable with it in my front pocket.
I'm a rear pocket guy and always take my phone out when i sit anyway

i am now leaning 6+

I think I'm going with the smaller one, too. At first the big one seemed good. But the more I thought about it, it's just not what I really want. I like the smallness of the iPhone.

The Phablet

You will have noticed throughout this post I have not mentioned the even larger 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Apple is expected to announce, and that is with good reason: no-one will try to use it like an existing iPhone.

Like it or not, there is a threshold to phone size. Some will say it is the 4-inches of the iPhone 5/5S, others that it is 4.7-inches or even 5.2-inches if the bezels are as compact as the LG G2. Regardless of where the threshold lies, 5.5-inches is beyond it. Samsung Galaxy Note owners, for example, love their phablets and often say they do the job of both phone and tablet but they don’t pretend it is a standard phone.

Phone providers are smart to use these device trade-ins as a means to decrease upfront costs on new devices. They're offering pretty good value on 4s/5 devices (likely breaking even) and eliminating the hassle/risk of having to sell/ship the phone for the user.

ok so att will give me $200 for my 5and I don't have to worry about anything else, definitely doing the 6+ 64gb.
WHAT'S THIS NOW??? :excited:
yep, just talked to them. dial **attbb from your phone, then listen through the prompts. They then text you a link to your phone that takes you to a site that detects what is up with your phone. The guy at the store told me to just select their store during the preorder and then bring in the phone next friday to swap out.

Is there any benefit to pre-ordering in the store vs online? I told the kid I'd come in and pre-order through him but I'm not sure it's going to be worth the hassle.

He mentioned something about "people screwing up the credit part" online a lot, but I'm 99% sure that's a ruse to get a commission on my sign up.

I'm gonna preorder online, I have a feeling waiting to preorder at the store will = sold out. The guy said since you don't pay during a preorder then there is no real difference.

Given the reports that Apple has yet again completely dominated shipping capacity out of China with it's volume of phones going out I'm HOPING they'll have enough devices to keep up with demand initially, but who knows.
