New large iphone will sell like hotcakes to business guys...once they ban electronics larger than phone on flights to/from Europe the larger phones will replace ipads/laptops in the cabin.

Sure you can try to pry my iPad Pro from my cold, dead hands.

Well, I guess I'll be hanging on to my 6 plus a little longer. I did a search on pricing and I remember this thread when the 6 came out and there was a debate on getting the Plus or the regular 6 and it looks like those of us who got the plus were ahead of the game and clearly ground-breakers. All you little handed people are just going to have to hold your future phones with both hands since it seems like the 8 is purely the plus model (supposed to be a 5.8" screen, slightly bigger).

Hate that we can't embed images, the chart above was so much better in the reply box.

I got the 7 late, just a few months ago. I will press out the battery life on this from the looks of it, holy moly 1k price tag. Also have unlimited data on VZW, so no need for me to get more local storage.

Also have smaller hands where the 7 is perfect for one hand swipe typing in the Google keyboard app. Definitely holding onto the 7 if the 8 is a one size only megaphone for giants.

Love my 7+, but it takes some getting used to.  The 7 to me now is like a tiny little deck of cards.  I could imagine it's suitable for POTUS.

Considering their stock price has shot through the roof lately, with these rumors and everything, it's likely going to have some killer features to justify that price point.

Many think it's some augmented reality capability.

It better make me breakfast at that price point.

It's unlikely to be that high, but it likely is expanding people's ability to stomach a higher than normal price.  "Oh, it's not as high as it was reported to be, but it's still $150 higher than the previous price! Not so bad."

What I've heard is that they'll release high end options, perhaps with the AR capabilities, while still retaining the previous phone versions and price points.  This could be the iPhone Pro we heard about last cycle, but this time will come out with the high-tech bells and whistles for the 10th anniversary of the iPhone, and coinciding with the opening of the new Apple Campus.

I'd name it, Iphone 8, steve jobs edition...and put all kinds of cool stuff in there at a higher price point.  Then leave the previous price points the same and just do the normal 7s iteration for those...faster processors, slightly improved storage space, few internal spec bumps and an iOS upgrade.

We'll see though, but it's clear that whatever the market is seeing, they are liking...the stock price has been marching higher and higher based on some optimism.

Apple's stock has been Buy on rumor / sell on release for a while now...  but I don't disagree that there is optimism.

I'll say I'm seeing a LOT more Apple watches around these days...

The AR kit paired with a new iPhone with advanced sensor technology is going to slay the competition until they catch up.

The ARKit on devices even without those sensors is going to be superior to any VR/AR stuff out there to date, simply because the audience is in the hundreds of millions.  But the stuff they're going to be able to do with sensors, plus powerful dedicated chips, plus custom hardware sensors...I have no doubt minds will be blown.

I've long said the most valuable feature to me is a waterproof phone with a true all-day battery for a power-user.

I'm seeing ip68 waterproofing

I'm seeing increased power efficiency (10nm a11 chip, OLED display)
I'm seeing prospective increased battery size due to redesigned interior.

If they can give me 2x the run time of the iPhone 6 and waterproof it.... It'll be the happiest day of my iphone life.

I have the option to upgrade my current iPhone 6 thru AT&T wireless, I can go to a 7 with no change in what I pay.

Part of me would like to wait until the new model comes out in order to make up for the year or two that I have stayed behind on the 6, but part of me also wonders if the new model will be out this year or not!

I would just hold off. The new batch is supposed to come out in September. If nothing else, it'll make the 7 cheaper.

Yeah, the battery on the 6 is dying, so I may replace it so it will be a good hand-me-down to one of my kids.

Not as much as one might think though. I had been waiting for the 8, but my toddler chucked my old phone across the floor and I had to replace it earlier than I'd wanted. I was pretty surprised that (at least at Sprint) there really wasn't a huge difference in price between the 7 plus and the 6s plus I was looking at. Ended up just going with the 7.

Still rocking the 6+

Best phone I have ever had by a mile. Battery is starting to drain a bit too quick.

What kind of deals is ATT giving these days. They did away with the subsidized phone prices, right?

No way am I paying 1000 for a phone.

NYT reporting the new iPhone 8 will come in at $999 for 64GB, which is supposed to be the baseline for the 8
Lovely.  Need a phone for my kid in junior high and every single girl in her class has iPhone, not Android.  I'm not going to get her a new 8, but man these are a pricey compared to Android.

"I ain't paying no 50 cents for no coke!"

This may drop prices of 6 and 7 iPhones.

:goodposting:

Although my battery seems fine.

AT&T was running a bogo on the iPhone 7 last week. Yep- still there. https://www.att.com/deals/apple-iphone-bogo.html

Still a chunk of change, but it helps when you have a need for 2.

As for the middle schooler who wants one- my son (8th grade) has an IPhone SE (4" phone with iPhone 6 guts). I pay for the family plan data, but he pays for the phone. He's had it for 1.5 years, pays me the $15/month, still has a bit over a year left on payments. But, that was the only way he was getting an iPhone and not a cheap android. And, I've never seen him take care of anything in his life like he does his phone. He knew from day 1 that he owed me the money for 30 months, no matter if the phone worked or not. New version of the SE supposed to hit early next year.

Just in case you never heard this and tried already...

My wife has been complaining about her iPhone 6s battery for the last couple of months.  I went android years ago so just usually just give her a little  . I finally looked into it some and it turns out her phone is on the recall list for battery issues.  We don't have an apple store nearby, but our local Best Buy can do the repair under the recall, so we're going to have it done this Saturday.  Guy laughed (in a friendly way) and called us the "stragglers" on this.

Anyway, this might have been covered here a long time ago, but if not, check it out to see if you're in the same situation.

Mine is just getting a bit older and doesn't hold a charge as well anymore. Thanks for the heads up though.

The 7's may take a good discount when the 8 comes out because there are already some fairly aggressive sales on the phone and the 8 (or whatever they call it at launch) is rumored to look different, stylistically. That usually prompts discounts on the old phones when the new ones get a refreshed facelift.

If you don't have to have the new and best available, it might be good to wait but I've been reading some rumors about this new one and I think a lot of people are going to want this one (even as much as they ever do).

  1 day. 3 hours... not that I'm counting.

Hoping I'm able to get one of the iPhone X's.... reportedly very limited quantities initially. Upgrading from a 128GB 6.
I'm interested in the X at a decent price point. I don't want to have to pay a ton of money for one.

Me too. But I'm afraid the price is going to be high. Still might do it at a high price.

I use my phone more then my iMac so I'm trying to justify it that way.

I was paying like $22/month for the  64GB 6 on Verizon. As long as the X doesn't increase that by more than $10-$15, I'll probably jump.

Curious about what kind of trade in deals they'll have with cell carriers.

I'd LOVE it if I can turn in my 6 for $400ish in credit Maybe $599 for 128GB X after turn in.... maybe $25/mo for 24mo or something like that. Fingers crossed.

How long are the monthly pay-out windows usually? Never bought a phone that way. 24mo? 36mo? If it's 0 interest seems like a no brainer vs paying up front.

I was very skeptical about upgrading at the rumored prices, but I may jump if I get a decent trade-in deal like that.  Going to have to be really tempting though to get me away from my trusty 6+.

For those of you with battery problems, the battery phone case is a game changer.

I'm pretty much forced to upgrade because my phone's battery is not only dying, it's slowly expanding to the point where my screen is bulging and has detached from the phone on the left side.  I fully expect my phone to blow up or catch fire sometime soon.

What model phone do you have?
