The Apple iPhone Thread (2 Viewers)

iPhone X will have wireless charging; battery lasts 2hrs longer than iPhone 7.

They didn't mention the 8/8+ battery life at all.

So can I make the poop emoji flick people off (despite apparently having no arms)?  Because maybe that would worthwhile.  That could probably replace 80% of the interactions with my wife.

Looks like I'll stick with my iPhone 7+ for another year.  Nothing there that makes me want to buy it.  Wireless charging not even available until spring of next year?  Might as well wait for the 9 at that point.

Ehh... Face ID is of minimal appeal to me.... but the Edge to edge display is really nice. That, and the 2hrs additional battery life, is where they MAY get me... That said, the 1.5mo delay for the X is a pretty big drag... as is the likely $1099 pricetag for the 256GB version (which I will need). Guessing $799 for the 8 w/ 256GB.

Hrmmm... At least MOST of the "Good stuff" is in the 8 as well.

Very curious about the battery life on the 8.

WIreless charging available out of the gate through any Qi certified mat. Apple's fancy mat with undisclosed magic powers comes out next year.

Ah, I see.  Still, while nice it isn't something that makes me want to upgrade.  There isn't anything there that is "that" much better than a 7.

Depends on the trade in value of my 6. Seems like the same size so cases should work from the 6, no? Ports have to be similar to the 7, I'd imagine.

This is pretty much like clockwork. Apple climbs on the rumors and dips on the reveal.
I thought the new stuff looks pretty great and will probably be getting the watch (don't have it yet) and either the X or the 8 in the next few months once I figure out the best deals for me with my carrier.

Hoping for a nice little stock rally in the next few weeks.

Disappointed with no rear sensors.  Everything else was pretty good.

I think they hit a few roadblocks, largely with scalability and cost for OLED screens.

In a normal year, they would've made an iPhone 7s with wireless charging and those camera improvements, lighting, and MAYBE the front facing animoji.  That would have been it.  But they'd have pushed off OLED I think for another year for scale and cost.

Then next year the iPhone 8 would've had OLED, and all the stuff from the 7s, as well as some rear facing sensors.  I think they just felt the pressure to make a big splash this year, but as you can see with a November release date for the iPhone 8 X,...they're not ready for it.

That's the only thing that has me considering upgrading from my 6+.  Will depend on what kind of trade-in value I get.
I have a 6plus as well and want to upgrade for the quality of the camera alone.

I also need (more like want) 256 which means either 949 for the 8plus of 1149 for the X.  For $200 dollar, I'll probably go with the X

So did all the carriers do away with the lower phone cost if you were eligible for an upgrade?  I think I remember reading that.  Can the cost of the phone just be rolled into the monthly cost of the plan?  And if so, do I still need to pre-order through the Apple website on Friday?

I wonder how much free space there will be left on the 64.... Really wish there was a 128 option.  I'm guessing these fancy pants pics and videos are going to eat up a lot of space?

Looking into Battery life is curious... perhaps some of you tech guys can explain:

IPHONE X  : Lasts up to 2 hours longer than iPhone 7
• Talk time (wireless): Up to 21 hours
• Internet use: Up to 12 hours
• Fast-charge capable: Up to 50% charge 30 minutes

IPHONE 8 : Lasts about the same as iPhone 7
• Talk time (wireless): Up to 14 hours
• Internet use: Up to 12 hours
• Fast-charge capable: Up to 50% charge 30 minutes

IPHONE 8 PLUS : Lasts about the same as iPhone 7 Plus
• Talk time (wireless): Up to 21 hours
• Internet use: Up to 13 hours
• Fast-charge capable: Up to 50% charge 30 minutes9

IPHONE 6 : For Reference
• Talk time: Up to 14 hours on 3G
• Internet use: Up to 10 hours on 3G

QUESTIONS:
1) Why do they advertise X as 2hrs longer than 7, when it's 7 hours longer talk time?
2) Why is Talk time dramatically more, but Internet use is about the same?

You should be able to pre-order on your carrier's site or apple.  I've done both and had good experiences with both (ATT and Apple).

Subsidizing is a thing of the past, but you can pay for it in monthly installments through your phone bill.  You can step through it here, depending on your carrier.

Looks like Pre-order 9.15 and Available 9.22 for the 8/8+.

Also, I wanted to vomit during the retail part of the presentation and that lady said they aren't calling the Apple Stores "stores" anymore.  Now they are "Town Squares".

I like Apple's product but give me a ####### break.

Certain flagship stores will be upgraded to "Town Squares" which will feature classes, lounges, meeting/training facilities etc. Apple does some pretentious #### sometimes but these facilities will definitely be much more than a "store"..... while the name is kinda gay, I don't have a problem with it.

Did they say that for the LTE enabled watch that you needed a separate data account or can you pull off of the data you currently subscribe to?

Hey why did they skip the iphone numbering to 10?

(•_•)

I guess you could say

( •_•)>⌐■-■ /

the iPhone 7 ate 9

(⌐■_■)

YEEEEEEEEEAAAAHHHH

I'm curious about this too. It says it uses the same cell number... curious if there is an added charge for the watch to be on that "line"

Because when you talk on the phone your screen is assumed to be off.  If you are doing both, well then I assume it now falls to a 3rd category which they didn't speak to which is phone+internet.

Yeah but the "internet/browsing" time is the same as the 7... one would THINK it would be higher as well given the (presumably) larger battery and the screen being more efficient OLED.  Just seems strange.

I'll say I'm disappointed they still haven't made a true "all day battery" phone for power users... I was hopeful with this release.

The battery case is basically an all day battery.  You're buying a case for your phone anyway, might as well have a battery in it.
