The Art of Trash Talking (1 Viewer)

I think that trash talking can be a very fun part of FF. In my league, I write a weekly roundup basically consisting of a look back at the previous week's fantasy games, a weekly ranking of the top teams, some NFL trivia, and other tidbits about the league.

Since my league has been around for 12 years we all know each other fairly well, but I would like to hear how other leagues trash talk. What kind of jokes are used? Does your league make it personal against the owner or owner's family? Do they keep it to the fantasy team.

It seems to me that the trash talking is an art or skill that can be mastered, so I ask you guys, what you got?

One of the guys in my league posts on the message board his "Real Men of Genius" rants. Basically it is a rip off of the Bud Light commercials but he turns it around and applies it to the fantasy owner who pulled off abonehead move the past weekend. Like failing to switch out his defense that is on bye week or picking up a player off the waiver wire that was just put on the IR. I am the current 'real man of genius' this week for starting Rex Grossman and talking trash on the owner I was playing against prior to the Monday night game. I was ahead of the other guy by about 4 points and could have benched Grossman and taken the zero and still come away with the win but instead Grossman got me -7 points and I ended up losing. A real man of genius indeed.

If you have been in a league with friends for an extended period of time, I have found out that nothing is off limits. In one of my leagues we have personal attacks that date all the way back to the little league baseball in which the owners played on opposing teams. Lack of hair, weight, gambling addictions, drinking problems, inability to win the league title, poker skills, .....I could go on forever. Nothing is out of bounds in most leagues.

I can't begin to tell you how ruthless the trashtalking gets.

First of all, trash-talking is not an art nor a learned skill...thus, your entire premise here is baseless You need to get off of your "touchey-feeley" questions and just assert yourself! Who cares what other leagues do? Furthermore, who cares about what and how you talk in your own league!!! Tell it to the gups! You must be an uncreative spineless goober to have to post such a whiney question here! Geesh...you need to grow a pair and just go with the trash-flow! Next, I bet you will be asking us to choose your starting line-up!!!! For future reference, if it does not come naturally, it it just a pile of predetermined, preprogrammed steaming horse dung! Gosh! Give it a rest already!!!! NOTE: Please take no offense, for the above was just a "clean" sample of how my leagues work in regards to your question.

I don't understand the point of trash talking. I've never trash talked in anything I've done, I just let my performance do the talking. Maybe I'm old-fashioned.

Trash talking should only include FF aspects and not get personal. I have seen a league become nasty with name calling and personal attacks that have no place.

What should be in play are: making fun of a team's name, team's player performance, how you are going to run wild over the other team this week, being clever.

What is not in play: making fun of someone's job, location, religion, personality, wife, family, physical appearance, being obvious and crude.

This way, all the fat, bald, unemployed, flaming hillbilly boy lovers in my league can keep it from being personal and stay happy with their lard butt heiffers and their 2.7 mongoloid welfare tax exemptions.

I got some PMs asking me how I made the video.

Basically I went into Madden 06' and created two teams with our (the two championship teams) fantasy rosters and beefed up the O-line and defense so that we both would make it to the big game. I then used an adaptec game adapter that lets you record from your xbox/video camera/tv and saved that file to my pc and had the computer play out the game against itself. Then I used Adobe Premiere to edit the game and threw in some music and various wav files. In my Madden league we used this to create Sportscenter type highlight packages of our games.

Sounds like it took a lot of time, if you had to guess how many hours you spent on it, what would you say? 3? 5? 7?

It took a couple of days to put together, but most of that was really the prep time in assembling the roster, playing the season out, and then finding the sounds and music. Assuming that you had that all done it would probably take an hour or so. I had another video that was a lot more professional looking, but its about 2 gigabytes of data. Well worth the time if your into looking for that extra sting at the draft.

This is a league I would HATE to be in..... I personaly provide Photochops of owners.... post youtube vids of owners.......and nothing is off limits for this group of life long friends...the more dirt you have to hide, the better to keep your mouth shut.
