The Avengers (1 Viewer)

I think I spent most of this film wondering just how snug was that outfit Scarlett Johansson was wearing.
I spent the entire movie wishing they'd stuck emma stone in this role and put Scarlett with her natural hair color in as Gwen Stacey in the new spider man atrocity they are putting out in July.Gwen is supposed to be hot.. emma is just attractive.... but she would've been good in this role and had the right hair color for the part

So I saw this Sunday. Not surprised it is still breaking records. 11 AM showing on Mothers Day and the place was at least 90% full. I was very surprised by the demographics as well. Lots of women. In groups and by themselves. And a mostly older crowd. Marvel/Disney have to be thrilled with the cross over appeal this thing has shown. And on the better rear discussion. I have seen average Moms do better with those shorts than Gywneth, she's right out and can't even figure out what people thought they saw. Scarlett wasn't bad at all but I think the winner was Cobie Smulders in the SHIELD uniform.
True story from an IMAX showing I was at. In the Stark Tower scene with Gywneth in the cut offs, when she turned to walk the other way the guy sitting next says out loud, "Oh my god what an ###." His girlfriend/date, sitting right next to him, punches him the shoulder and gives an incredulous "seriously". To which the genius replies, "I can't help it, she's hot."

This was the first time I ever found Gwyneth Paltrow hot. I thought she was lookin good in the jean shorts.

did we ever get reason on why these characters were chosen as the avengers over say the original lineup or the current comic lineup etc...
based mostly on the Ultimate Avengers lineup right?not sure why they didn't use the original characters other than they needed the guys who had feature films
They replaced Ant-Man and Wasp with Hawkeye and Black Widow, otherwise it's the original team, Captain America is found in Avengers #4.Might be they wanted to establish a strong connection with SHIELD. Also Ant-Man's power to get small and control insects would have had limited use and might not play well on the big screen. I think one of the reasons Pym became Giant Man was because Ant-Man was underpowered. Wasp has a little bit more use with her ranged attack but she's only really interesting due to dealing with that headcase Pym.
The real "Aquaman" of the Avengers. But smarter.

Maybe Thanos will have a bee sting allergy.

Maybe he'll defeat Thanos by annoying him every morning with a trail of ants winding its way from the window, through the kitchen into the cubbard and into his box of Sugar Pops.

how can you NOT love IM/Tony Stark?
if you're not into egotistical jerks then Tony Stark isn't your superhero of choice.
I don't want to be friends with him, I just want to be entertained.
well then i'd be more entertained if they upped the rating to NC-33, showed some harder core violence, and then had scarlett, gwyneth, and robin from how i met your mother all topless and making out while getting hulk smashed in the bum.

I'm not a huge fan of hers but that uniform was crazy. That final shot of her on the bridge talking to SLJ

Maybe that's what I get for going 2D but it wasn't all that for me.

for her age and the fact that she was in bare feet (no heels to lift), it looked great I thought and I am no big fan of hers.

I thought she was average. Cute and I would let her touch it, but not ZOMG.

Yeah I am going to stick with plenty of women her age without her money look better.

So I was reading that Downey gets a part of the revenues of any film in which he plays Tony Stark. Latest estimates put his haul from Avengers at 50 million plus. He negotiated this deal after the first Iron Man did 500 million. Smart guy.

Gotta admit, Cobie Smulders had a lot better big screen presence than I thought she would. I liked her role and wished it was larger.

The character she played, Maria Hill, has had a lot of story time over the years. She is an integral part of SHIELD canon so we should see more of her going forward.

Who saw this coming 15 years ago? I don't like all his work, particularly the Sherlock Holmes shlock, but good for him.

I read her deal has her appearing in up to 9 films. :excited: Guessing we can count Iron Man 3, Thor 2, Cap America 2, & Avengers 2 even if they are just small cameo's like SLJ or Caulson had in some of the others.Seemed like at one point she was kind of side-glancing, oogling Cap when he first gets to the helicarrier. Wondering if they will try to combine her role into Sharon Carter's from the comics and make her Peggy Carter's granddaughter or something as a potential love interest.

I finally got to see it and I really enjoyed it.

Ruffalo finally got Banner right and I loved the Stark-Banner scenes.

The movie was paced really well, no slow scenes and a lot of action mixed in. The fighting scene with Thor, Captain America and Iron Man was awesome. I liked that better than the final scene at the end.

My son still chuckles and says "Puny God" when he talks about the movie.

FYI HIMYM people, Colby Smulders is still really hot. Please hire a better make-up/costume people.

I really hope Downey does Avengers 2.

IIRC, Keanu did the same thing with the Matrix movies. Made something like a quarter of a billion off all 3 of them.

Yeah it's a pretty amazing comeback. I've always liked Downey but this is pretty remarkable. He was born to play Tony Stark/Iron Man. Talk about perfect casting.

I read that the Peggy Carter grand daughter stuff was shot for Avengers but did not make final cut. Since much of extra 30 minutes for the DVD is said to focus on Captain America, I think we may get to see those scenes with the grand daughter.

It was a scene with Peggy Carter, not her grand daughter, and Cap. Whedon shot it and he was the one who decided to cut it. I think there has already been confirmation that those extra 30 minutes, much of which is about Capt. America and his transition to the present day, will be part of the DVD.

Yes. Whedon confirmed it on opening weekend during an interview. I linked the interview earlier in the thread.

This scene was only written by Whedon I think, it never made it to film as it was cut during writing edits. http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/MarvelFreshman/news/?a=57736

I think he will but it may be the last time we see him in that role, since that will be after Iron Man 3.
why wouldnt he do it? He's making a mountain of cash
:goodposting: i wouldn't see him giving up that role anytime in the next 5 years. The only reason to quit would be because he'd made so much money that he was just done with the whole thing and ready to retire on the beach

I'm ok with that. I think anything over an Iron Man 3 will be too much. Although I would love for him to make an appearance but take a smaller role in an Avengers 3, since we already know so much about Iron Man. Hopefully they can focus more attention on the other heros. I did like that they made him jealous in this movie.

I never got the feeling he was jealous of anyone. I think he basically didn't give a s**t and didn't take any of them too seriously (particularly Capt. America) which is how he typically responds. He definitely had an interest in Banner/Hulk because he saw some similarities between the two of them.

Yeah no way to see this coming. Like you say I don't like everything he's in but he was born to play Stark IMO.

Anyone have a list of salaries for each actor in this movie?I'm curious how the money was spread out...
I read that the "heroes"(other than Downey) made between 2-3 million for this one. I am assuming SLJ did better than that since he has a pre-signed 9 movie deal with them but I don't know for sure.ETA - In checking around I read that Scarlett and Samuel L. made about 6 million this movie.

I meant with Pepper. It was interesting that he was a playboy but he got jealous of Agent Coulson.

Ahhh. Gotcha. :)

Best action movie I've ever seen, hands down. I'm not a comic guy or superhero guy either. That was a freaking awesome movie and funny as hell, too. The Hulk smashing Loke on the ground while he was still talking was awesome. Joss Whedon is brilliant. Robert Downey is freaking hilarios. I wish my son was old enough to enjoy it.

No doubt about that. Couldn't be a better part for him. Perfect.

Sources say Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Chris Evans (Capt America) , Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) and Mark Ruffalo (Hulk) will each ultimately make $2 million to $3 million from the film.Scarlett Johansson typically makes around 5 million per film. (15 per year)Samuel L Jackson makes about 10 million per film (30+ per year). Though he actually has a 9 movie deal with Marvel (considered all to be rolls or parts as Nick Fury).

I wonder how much they paid the HULK , seeing he stole the movie .

Great comic book and action film. I liked both batman's better easily though as far as story goes and overall movie.

I will say that the direction and editing was stellar considering how much was going on with so many characters. It all just flowed and worked great.

how olds your son? my son will be 3 in june and loves spiderman, hulk, and captain america. im gonna let him watch it when it comes out on blu ray. i think hell love it

one thing that was a pleasant surprise was that they developed all the characters equally. even black widow and hawkeye got equal play. i figured they would almost be background noise

ok some dumb questions:

1. why did captain america give nick fury a ten dollar bill?

2. why was that guy switching to an atari style video game after getting his commands? was that just supposed to be humor? very strange

3. was the tesseract in capt america? i forgot. was that also the cube from thor?

also, i never liked captain america in the comics. always thought he was corny. but i loved him in this movie

Can't remember the exact quotes, but in the previous scene it goes something like this:Cap: I've seen everything, nothing will surprise me

Nick Fury: Ten bucks says I'll show you something you've never seen before.

Aircraft carrier lifts out of the water and becomes a space ship

Cap gives Nick $10.

Starks earlier says:“That man over there is playing Galaga. Thought we wouldn’t notice, but we did.”

3. yes
