The Avengers (1 Viewer)

Rumored to release the 3 hour directors cut to theaters in August. Disney would like to make it the highest domestic grossing movie of all time.
Does that even count for the total?Titanic was rereleased and the numbers for its domestic gross have not been adjusted at all on IMDB's all time list.
That is interesting about Titanic. I know all the Star Wars rereleases were added to the total. Looks like Titanic made over 200 million in the rerelease world wide. The article I read speculated it could grow to 70 million domestically.Note: I just checked IMDB and the Titanic totals have been adjusted for the world wide numbers. The domestic page has not been updated.

Oh and great flick. Not much more can be said about it that hasn't been said in here already. Those that don't like it enjoy kicking puppies.
People that don't like this movie hate America. But seriously, you could pick any random art house film, and you'll see plenty of disagreements about the movie. With Avengers, I am surprised to read negative reviews. If you didn't like it, what exactly were you expecting? Good action, good characters, and a lot of solid humor to lighten the mood. What's not to like?
A decent plot. That's what it was lacking.

Here's a Spiderman sob story for all you comic geeks. When I was younger (12-16) which was 1978-1982, I was the biggest Spiderman fan around. I had every Spectacular Spiderman at the time (I don't remember how high they went yet, but I think they were somewhere in the 90's at the time). I also had every Amazing Spiderman, including issue #1 in good condition - I paid $120 for it at the time, except for three or four issues. I had a newspaper route and a job washing dishes, and pretty much every penny I made went right into Spiderman. There were a couple comic book stores near my house, and the guys would always track down issues and call me when they had what I was looking for. My best friend collected The Avengers and the X-Men, and it really is how we spent most of 7th and 8th grade.Anyway, I had a huge fight with my mom starting my senior year of high school and moved out. We didn't speak for five years. And when we did finally speak again, she informed me that she had thrown out all of my possessions from my childhood, including all my comics. So that pretty much sucked.
Tell me more about Spectacular Spiderman, was it as good? i have never read an issue
Spectacular Spiderman was great. A lot of the same story lines and same villains as the Amazing Spiderman. If I remember right, Spectacular had a little more "Peter Parker" stuff in it than did the Amazing, but there really wasn't a whole lot of difference between the two lines.Tell me more about Spectacular Spiderman, was it as good? i have never read an issue

Wow, isn't an Amazing #1 worth in the neighborhood of $10,000 now? I'd divorce my mom and have her removed from my birth certificate.
It might be worth that in near mint condition, but mine was in good condition (the rankings are: poor, fair, good, very good, fine, very fine, near mint, mint). The difference in price between comics in "near mint" and "good" condition is very big. I estimated, at the time of disposal, my comics were worth about $15K. Today (28 years later) they would be much more than that.

Decent compared to what? Were you hoping for something like Pride and Prejudice?

AND a couple of hot babes thrown in.Lets not forget the great special effects .
Good point, Scarlett's heinie is something to behold in that cat suit. And this might have been the best quality CGI mixed with live action that I have ever seen.

This list has the corrected domestic numbers for Titanic. I think someone just forgot to update the IMDB domestic pagehttp://boxofficemojo.com/alltime/domestic.htm
It's amazing to me that Avatar made that much money. It had a lot of hype about 3d and how much it cost to make, but it didn't seem like it had that much hype in people really wanting to go see it as the other top movies on that list.

The World Wide numbers are even more impressive for Avatarhttp://boxofficemojo.com/alltime/world/

Yes, re-releases count. New totals for Titanic are $658M domestic, $1.388B overseas, $2.04B worldwide.

Other movies have combined the two. I had a blast with The Avengers, and definitely don't think it was bad. I did think it was a little bloated and missed having some sort of character arc to the different heroes. None of them changed or went through anything, they just assembled and battled a subpar villain.

The arc had nothing to do with individual characters changing. The whole point of the movie was watching the arc of how the characters interacted with each other and eventually formed a group. You can't have that many characters in a movie and expect serious individual character arcs with out the movie being 4+ hours long IMO.

The individual character arcs played out in the movies Iron Man(1 and 2), Thor, The Hulk and Captain America.

A bit of a surprise - announced today that part 2 will be titled:

Age of Ultron - and will not include Hank Pym
Whoa whoa whoa...you can't have the Age of Ultron, or any Ultron, without Hank Pym. WTH?!
AGREE

and furthermore.. even if it is extremely LOOSELY based on the very recent comic series... well that wasn't really that great.. AT ALL.

No reason for all the Hank Pym-Ultron backstory for a 2 hour movie.

And they are not following the recent story of the same name.

its not, they are just using the name.

IIRC I thought I saw Ultron head in Tony Starks Lab in one of the movies, I forget which,'

Wouldnt be hard to make Stark the creator of a robot.

Liked Ultron alot in the comics.

I saw this movie twice. Once to check it out because my boys wanted to see it (should have done this with IM3) and then again with them. This movie is ungood and I generally like super hero movies. I fell asleep both times.

i don't know you

oh yeah, forgot to add "that's my purse!"

"We have to stay grounded," Whedon said. "It's part of what makes the Marvel universe click -- their relationship to the real world. It's science fiction, and Thanos is not out of the mix, but Thanos was never meant to be the next villain. He's always been the overlord of villainy and darkness."

I am guessing they figure Thanos should be the endcap in the third movie - before they reboot
Completely hyped for all of it.
my buddy who owns bedrock comics is friends with the guy who played Thanos at the end the Avengers, hes a black guy (not that its relevant what color he is ,just an FYI )
I'm friends with a guy who is friends with the guy who played the flying serpent thing. He's Puerto-Rican, not that it's relevant.

hahaha...i knew right after i posted that i would get crap...it is kind of stupid

Netflix Instant has the 2010 animated series available now. It's not bad for a cartoon and tells the origin plus some of the better Avengers stories (Kang the Conqueror, the Kree, the S.H.I.E.L.D. prison breaks).
Ever notice how as soon as Ant Man grows into his giant form, he pretty much immediately gets his ### kicked?

I just figured Thanos was all CG, but then I remembered that he had a line so maybe your buddy knows the voice actor. Either way, Marvel needs to start getting more diversity in their on-screen heros, that's for sure. May as well start with the purple demigod.
