Bears moving Hester to offense

By David Haugh

Tribune staff reporter

...Imagine Hester's speed paired opposite Bernard Berrian on third downs with tight end Greg Olsen running downfield with his 4.5 speed. Or Hester and Rashied Davis in the slot positions with Garrett Wolfe out of the backfield in the Bears' "Smurf" formation.

"Definitely, our creative juices will be flowing," offensive coordinator Ron Turner said.

----------------------------------------------

The Bears will be an exciting team to watch this year. It will be interesting to see if Hester and Wolfe get enough touches to be fantasy contributors. Something to keep an eye on in this upcoming pre-season.

On the lighter side...a new nickname is born. Garrett Wolfe is the SMURF. :link:

Anyone remember the offense Rex had in college? Florida didn't have big recievers, just a bunch of fast ones. And Rex was in a shotgun most of the time...........................just saying. Kinda like what Peyton Manning runs most of the time now. Hmm. The league is filled with copycats. IMO There are going to be some interesting wrinkles in Chicago's offense this year. This is Rex's offense now. No doubt.

this sounds like an exciting formation, but how are they going to block? i hope those o-linemen can protect grossy long enough lest he throw another moonball

Wasn’t it the same offense Steve Spurrier tried to run in Washington? :blackdot:

:lmao: Yes. Worked better in college. :) Point was he should be pretty familiar with the new formations and routes.Whether the O Line can keep Rex upright is a whole other thing, but the shotgun formation theoretically should help Rex.

not to mention, when he fumbles 182 snaps next season, in the shotgun, he should have a better than 2% chance at recovering his own fumble:lmao:

Think faster reads and not having to take his eyes off the defensive backfield...........both should help him get rid of the ball faster. We'll see........ :) :lmao: :lmao:

:Pi hear ya - theoretically, it should work but i remember hearing some outrageous statistic last season about when the Bears used the shotgun formation. they had terrible results ... i'll see if i can find a link.

here's one

Then there are the Bears, who joined the in crowd, if barely, last Sunday against the New York Giants. The Bears' initial excursion into shotgun territory was not successful, however, with quarterback Rex Grossman going 0-for-2 on pass attempts, and false starts negating two other plays. And judging from the tone around Halas Hall last week, the Bears are in no hurry to try again.

:lmao:

from Rotoworld.com

Bears signed third-round Garrett Wolfe to a four-year contract.

The Northern Illinois product is the first draftee in the NFL to sign and took a rare four-year deal for a third-round pick. Wolfe is an undersized third-down back who can catch the ball and line up outside. He will battle Adrian Peterson for the backup job in Chicago. The winner will be a fine sleeper in Cedric Benson's first season as a starter.

From the www.chicagotribune.com...

Wolfe on his signing:

"It's a great opportunity for me with the Chicago Bears," Wolfe said in a statement from the team. "The one thing that I'm excited about is that I'm here and I'm working out with the guys. I get to get a feel for what's going on and that's just going to put me that much more ahead. Going into training camp, I'll be ahead of the learning curve."

I love this kid already :lmao:

This year, take notice of the recievers and if they appear to be getting separation in their routes. Even if Grossman cannot throw accurately enough to make it work for Chicago, COLT BRENNAN will be coming out of the University of Hawaii, and he is a real deal and comes closest to reminding me of Kurt Warner when he lead the Rams to those Super Bowl years. Anybody who has three fast receivers and a running back that can catch will definitely rack up some yards with Colt Brennan. He gets rid of the ball quick as proven by a low sack total, makes good decisions as proven by his low interception totals, and is highly accurate as proven by his unmatched QB rating. I hope the Bears tank it this year so that they can draft early and take Colt before others do. He will definitely be a first rounder next year, and though he may be drafted as the 2nd or 3rd QB off the board, he will not make it past pick 31. Mark my words.

Sorry to hijack the Wolfe "Smurf" lovefest.

Talk about left field.... Interupted the Wolfe lovefest for some unabridged Rex hate.

I like Wolfes chances to make a dent in the fantasy football world. I think the Bears get him involved much the same way I think Leon Washington will be used for the Jets. Thats imo around 8-10 touches a game on 3rd downs and passing situations
