The Beatles (2 Viewers)

Yeah... tiers.  I just meant that if you could separate them first you cut way down on the # of comparisons.

Maybe overkill...no, OK.  Overkill.

But I've used that tool several times over the last bunch of years for something like this.  Gets around the problem of liking A better than B, B better than C and C better than A because you're going to make a whole bunch of comparisons and add things up at the end.
I'm intrigued.  This is good stuff.

1. In My Life -
One of the best moments of my life is when my daughter surprised me with this as our Father-Daughter dance when she got married six years ago. She grew up a huge Beatles fan.

JFC that is so nice, it  makes me want to cry. No joke, but is it possible for life to be even better than that?

Thanks!   I don't think so.  Being grand father to her three and one year old girls is right up there also. They are the best thing ever.

I followed up her surprise with a surprise of my own at her wedding. I got a copy of her playing the opening solo on the clarinet to Rhapsody in Blue as a member of a 90-person orchestra from Mission Viejo High playing at Carnegie Hall as the featured school, and we danced to that also. She freaking killed it and now both of these songs give me chiils/make me cry every time I hear them.

Love at First Sight: I've Just Seen a Face

First Love: I'm Happy Just To Dance With You

Self Love: I Am the Walrus

Crazy-Monkey-Sex-Love: Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except Me and My Monkey

???: Why Don't We Do It in the Road?

Working through my rank ordering, and I'm making Mr. krista listen to every Beatles released song in order because I'm going to add his comments to my thread when I get to it.  His commentary doesn't affect my rankings but is better than mine and often pretty hilarious as well.  Tonight I started with Please Please Me and we went through the entire record where I made my tier rankings and he gave commentary.  I was surprised when I realized how much I love the songs on this first record; I ended up with five songs in Tier 1 and the others pretty evenly distributed between my Tiers 2 and 3.

Oh!  A question:  I should rank the Abbey Road medley of songs as one entity rather than ranking each snippet alone, yes?  When I initially counted up, I didn't do that.  I also had a few duplicates I hadn't taken into account before.  Think I might end up with more like 215 in total.

The magic number appears to be 213 based on a bunch of song ranking articles out there.  Not sure how they took the medley into account for that 213 but I look forward to your tier rankings

Happy birthday, Ringo!!

For those of you with Sirius, the Beatles channel’s fabulous program “Northern Songs” is this week featuring session songs where Ringo played.  In a short drive I heard Bob Dylan, Harry Nillson, Peter Frampton, T Bone Burnett, Joe Walsh, others...  It’s a great show.

Anyone listening to the new Paul record?  There are some good rock songs, but my favorite track is “I Don’t Know.”  A lovely lyrical song that seems to me like Paul as the wise elder statesman he should be at this point.

I've only heard the two singles and like them both though I definitely prefer "I Don't Know".  Looking forward to hearing the whole LP.   Pretty amazing that a 76 year old man is still writing and performing at such a high level.

XM 18 Beatles Channel ... Top 100 voted by listeners.   @krista4   @Krista's Poop Joke

Caught 55 to 27 driving home three hours from central Idaho.   Wanna Hold My Hand was like #29 WTF.

26. Dear Prudence

I heard bits of pieces on this on my way to and from hiking today.  The listeners' votes are quite different from the way my list is turning out, but my list won't be pleasing for people in a lot of instances either.  Btw, think I'm going to start posting it late this week, in honor of Paul's new record release and John's US postage stamp unveiling.  And mostly because I'm about done. :lmao:

That Long and Winding Road ranking was surprising to me (much higher than I would have thought).

#21 Help.

WTF.  This is in my top 10
I think one of my top five was in the 60s when I heard this today. We all have different tastes, and when it comes to the Beatles songs there are about 100 that are not wrong answers for the top 10.

23. And I Love Her
Love this song. For whatever reason, the Beatles lose me after Revolver. Like, that's it for me and them. The Beach Boys wind up doing the hippie heavy lifting to my ears, so the earlier Beatles stuff always crowds out the later Beatles from informing my personal top twenty or so.
