The Bengals (1 Viewer)

The Bengals looked terrible in week 1 and they have a rough schedule this year, but they are very talented and have more than had their moments over the years.

I'm wondering if we still think guys like Palmer, Housh and Ocho Cinco will bounce back and live up to their preseason draft spots or if we should look to move them while they still have value.

Also interested in the sleepers like Perry and Utecht. Should these guys be counted upon as top backups or is it better to look elsewhere?

I'm kinda under the impression that relative to their cost Perry is the only one I'd want, but I don't really have any idea what to make of this team.

palmer, housh, and ocho can't be that bad all season
I was considering buying low but ...Ocho has a dislocated shoulder and is playing with a harness. And the Bengals schedule is terrible to add to the mess

Avoiding like the plague :sadbanana:
This is where I stand right here. I know it seems unfathomable, but this team is truely in a shambles and I don't think the talents of Palmer, Johnson, and T.J. will be displayed anywhere near what we're accustomed to. The line can't protect Palmer, nor give him time to find his receivers downfield. He's already had a broken nose.Looking at their schedule, there are very few and far between weeks that you "might" be able to drum up any notion of confidence. The value just isn't there for any of them to hold a roster spot.Seriously, the biggest drama coming out of Cincinnati this year will be if Marvin Lewis survives the season as head coach. It's a bad situation there all around, making knee-jerk reactions such as bringing back Chris Henry and cutting Rudi and Anderson. These are desperation moves folks. This franchise is way out of sync.

I wont tell you what to do, but I've personally been avoiding allRams and Bengals. O-Lines for both teams are hurting.

Except for my flier picks Chris Perry and Rudi(now a Lion). Because they were still around when I drafted them.

Bengals fan here. Avoid them. The line is awful, which means Carson has no time, which means that the WRs arent getting the ball. I have a flyer on Perry that is going to end up getting the boot soon.

Buy low for these guys in next year when they get drafted two rounds later than this year. If you play in a straight keeper league (as in a keeper with a forfeited selection you'll be keeping them higher than they would have even been drafted) i'd keep all three, save perry.

I mean this game is played in the trenches. If your trenches are no good, it's gonna be a long year. Add that to this teams collective ability to quit on a game, and I don't think Lewis survives the season (or more likely the off-season),

Cowboys from Hell, here. Reporting LIVE from the 'Nati.News flash! This franchise has been way out of sync for 15+ years...The Bengals are NEVER good in the trenches, and it's ALWAYS a long year. Mark my words, you'll see how & why this franchise is so bad when they suck again this year and they KEEP Marvin Lewis. He would have been run out of every other NFL city by now, with the talent he has and the results he's produced."I play Fantasy Football, because I live in Cincinnati, and it's the only way I can enjoy watching professional football!"- Cowboys from Hell, 1998

 anyone can have a bad week, especially in week 1. But if tomorrow looks ugly, then you really have to think about things.I'm thinking this will trend toward a sell and you can not buy.Team turmoil, no ground game, terrible line, Ocho Cinco maybe shutting it down if they're out of it, too much negative here.To think I own Carson in the 3rd over Cutler in the 6th, it makes me sick to my stomach.

There are only 2 Bengals worth starting this year:

1) Housh - will struggle to play to his ADP, but you gotta hold for now

2) Chris Henry - Extreme value. If he's on your waiver wire run don't walk. Don't wait until week 3 or 4 when he's on everyone's radar screen. He's the one player you can get for dirt who could end up a serious WR3 start for you the rest of the year. CJ will not make it half the season with that shoulder.

So you would start 2 of their WR but not the QB?

What about Cinci's D this week? Seems like a sneaky play, actually. Name a game changer on the Titan's offense other than Vince Young (who's out), and Chris Johnson. I don't see Collins lighting up the Bengals in his first start of the year. And in spite of the ugly game last week against the Ravens, the Bengals Defense did put up 20 points in my league (2 fumble recoveries, 1 TD, 129 return yards).

total overreaction. why would Chad ever shut it down? I swear some you people know nothing about football and only think about fantasy football stats.

Just picked up Henry for nothing in a dynasty, defiantly worth a flyer. Even if the Bengal offense does not return to form, they should be throwing a lot while playing from behind.

Because deep down he is a pansy. He is a head case and if things dont go his way, he pouts and shuts down like a 4 year old.

Chris Henry is not an every down back. To put it bluntly, he is highly overated and sucks ###. K.Watson is a better player, he will produce more for them. Mark my words.

Gee thanks coach, what would we do without you?The reason Chad shuts it down is BECAUSE of football. I don't know the full nature of his injury, but he's probably looking at surgery. If this team is 2-7, what exactly is he playing for in the final 2 months? There is no postseason in the offing for the Bengals, so he'd be a much more likely candidate than a player on a contender to pack 08 in and get ready for 09.

We are talking about Chris Henry the WR on CIN. Not Chris Henry the RB on TEN.

Chad Johnson has a serious problem with his shoulder forcing him to wear a harness while he plays. He was already highly inconsistent when he was totally healthy. If he's bad again today, do you start him in week 3?

Houshmandzadeh posted 469 yards and 2 TDs over the last 8 games last year. Thats 58 yards per game plus .25 TDs.

Their offensive line is a total mess. Palmer was sacked and hit all day.

The schedule is absolutely brutal. Tough D after tough d.

Team chemistry is a mess, and management is about as bad as it gets.

What exactly about all of that would make you not want to sell any of those three guys for as much as you can get as soon as possible?

Why do you guys keep emphasizing this BS about tough D's? Defenses are HIGHLY variable from year to year there is no way you can tell their quality based on 1 week.

Was hoping for some analysis but it looks like its just a bunch of bitter whining cinci drafters in here.

without watching any of their games, I'll definitely be looking to buy low if they lay another egg today. Judging from the sentiment in this thread, I'll be able to snag a few always consistent fantasy studs for mere pennies on the dollar.

good luck all.

Defenses do change from year to year, but Pittsburgh (twice), Tennessee, Baltimore again, Jacksonville, Giants, Philly, and Dallas all already appear to have good defenses again. So between now and week 12 they look to have 3 games against what looks like lesser defenses. (HOU, NYJ, CLE)

Like what? You want us to break down why their o-line looks like one of the worst in recent history? You really need anything more than your own eyes to understand that?Poo poo the schedule all you want, but when your line is atrocious you probably don't want to play teams like the Steelers, Giants, Ravens, Titans, Cowboys, and Jaguars.

It will definitely be a buyers market in Bengals and as you mention, there are several Cinn. players that are always consistent fantasy studs.Enjoy your new roster! :goodposting:

Should definitely be able to get some bargains, if you are in the market for Bengals.I think this team is a mess. The Raiders looked a lot better than them today. Just a little perspective.

I really wish I had taken the opportunities I had in the postseason to deal him and Torry Holt. I'm guessing I couldn't give away either now. There's no reason the Bengals can't put up meaningless late-game fantasy stats like Holt did today when they are so far behind. But for some reason, they haven't through two games. If I have better matchups, I am going to look to sit TJ in coming weeks. If I had the other two, I'd sit them as well. But sometimes, you're forced to play guys, especially when the byes start up.

was the wind a factor in the passing game? serious question... i didn't see the game, but in the highlights some of the sidelines shots looked like there were gusts of up to 50+ mph...

yes. I suffered watching through that game due to being a Palmer owner and the wind was blowing hard. not just gusts, but just steady blowing. Palmer was pretty inaccurate with his passes, but the OL did fairly well considering everyone thought this would be a blood bath after what they did to Jax last week. Ocho looked decent as well, he even stretched out and went for a ball with the bad arm/shoulder. I'd say for what you could probably offer for them right now, the Bengals are a good buy. They will be in better playing conditions against weaker Ds then this soon.

Benched Ocho minutes before gametime due to high winds. Filler is Greg Lewis. There was some progress in protection, completion %, and Ocho targets, so I'm not selling.Don't need perfection from the Bengals just some progress to restore fantasy production from the offense.

I might send out a "slap in your face" offer for TJ and see what happens. However I would not want to rely on Housh or Chad to be a WR1 or 2 this season.
