He's gotten a lot worse over the years but ever since he sold to Spotify he fell off the cliff. I don't blame him...if I had his money and could keep getting more by doing no actual prep and saying the same incorrect things over and over again until they become fact to me, I'd do the same thing. My God. What a cluster-eff/circle-jerk-into-the-ceiling-fan of a podcast this is. This week's, usually the highlight of the year, takes the cake. And yet, I listen. I hate myself.
But not as much as Simmons.
That has to be Apex Mountain for Bill’s pettiness. My favorite Simmons thing this year was his constant dumping on Brady, a guy who delivered him 6 titles to celebrate. He’s shut up significantly about him the last 3 weeks however.
The only one I listen to is the Sal pod — after the season is over I’ll check back in September.I can't argue with any of the complaints in here ... yet I still find the show mostly entertaining. At least when Sal is on.
At one point he said “all I want is for the Pats to have more wins than the Bucs”. This was like week 10. Whoops.I can't argue with any of the complaints in here ... yet I still find the show mostly entertaining. At least when Sal is on.
It reminds me of the Bird-era Celtics......That has to be Apex Mountain for Bill’s pettiness.
Lol I went looking for this thread because I just listened to that episode. I knew it was going to be bad when he said “and Joe House joins us on the pod!” but it only got significantly worse when their manager came on. I bailed with 55 minutes left. I think Sal got to talk 4 times. My God. What a cluster-eff/circle-jerk-into-the-ceiling-fan of a podcast this is. This week's, usually the highlight of the year, takes the cake. And yet, I listen. He’s absolutely horrid. Nails on a chalkboard while a pained cat bellows out next to it. He’s a thing because he’s a friend of Simmons.I don't understand the Joe House thing. Why is he a thing? I don't find him particularly insightful or entertaining.
The only redeeming part of the manager being on was that he sounds exactly like Sal's impressions of him. And Sal laughing at him constantly because he's such a cartoon.Lol I went looking for this thread because I just listened to that episode. I suppose I should just listen to his pod. Even though Sal did get off a good joke when he said the super bowl brings out the millionaire gamblers who don’t know anything about football, “like Simmons”![]()
It’s so bad it’s actually the best part of the show.I know it's been beaten to death in here, but the gambling advice on his show is uniformly terrible and should not be followed by anyone. This is no different than "the Daily Wager," "Fox Bet Live," Cowherd, etc.
His "heat of the moment" call, still doesn't make sense to me. It's funny because it's a song by Asia?Decided to listen just because he was talking to someone about Masters and NFL draft. So surprised by his ignorance when it comes to golf.He is trying to get his nickname for Will Zalatoris to stick so called him "Z Spot" 15 times. Ugh.
Forget that. He blasted Nantz for being out of touch while thinking his completely unrelated reference from the mid 80s was better. His "heat of the moment" call, still doesn't make sense to me. It's funny because it's a song by Asia?
I generally like simmons but this is awful. Nantz Always plays the soft master's announcerForget that. He blasted Nantz for being out of touch while thinking his completely unrelated reference from the mid 80s was better.

His HBO show was so bad, so unwatchable that the network execs paid him seven figures to not produce any content for them.I can’t believe a guy this dumb got that rich.

I noticed his saying "Hideki Matsui" but in the moment I just blamed it on him being a mushmouth know-nothing. Honestly didn't connect it to the Yanks player. Also, it was so awkwardly obviously unintentionally racist I just decided to leave it alone for fear I'd get cancelled myself.Forget that. I'm certainly no expert on cancel culture and how it works, but I would not be surprised if the people most likely to call for Simmons to be cancelled have just never come across him. It's not like I'm rooting for it or anything but it would really be amazing if something so stupid and so Simmons actually led to him being placed somewhere on the "canceled" spectrum. Not as much for this directly but he wrote a lot of bad stuff about female athletes that would never come close to flying today and wasn't really that long ago, and I'm surprised it was never made into a bigger issue.

Causing a transgender woman to commit suicide by outing her is the kind of thing that would rightfully get someone canceled today but wasn't on that level in 2014:It's not like I'm rooting for it or anything but it would really be amazing if something so stupid and so Simmons actually led to him being placed somewhere on the "canceled" spectrum. This is it for me. For whatever reason, I don't mind listening to Simmons while I'm out running or doing yard work. But his constant NBA talk is a turn off. Admittedly, I'm not a huge NBA fan, but still. If every episode was about NFL (which I love), I wouldn't listen either. Is it just me, or is every second episode about the NBA MVP?
I enjoyed when he used to interview a wide range of pop culture people with interesting views. That said, it's not shocking that a guy who wrote The Book of Basketball talks a ton about the NBA, especially in the final month of the regular season when teams are making a playoff push and guys are jockeying for all-NBA and MVP. Other than the draft, nothing is happening in the NFL, so what is he supposed to say? He's talking about draft prospects (a little), he'll say more post-draft.This is it for me. I like him better when he has a bit more balance in his content. Across all sports, including fringe sports like tennis, etc. As well as politics, pop culture, etc.
I used to listen to him religiously. Now, if I listen to 10% of his stuff, its a lot.
He’s always been obsessed with that. He wrote like a 1000 page book about it.Is it just me, or is every second episode about the NBA MVP?
And still has yet to say one interesting thing on the subject. He’s always been obsessed with that. He wrote like a 1000 page book about it.Is it just me, or is every second episode about the NBA MVP?
This Ayton thing has been bizarre even by Simmons’s standards.mr. furley said:still a fan and take his opinions/takes for what they are.. just a guy who loves basketball like a regular fan.
and with that said.. his podcast on Ayton is absurd. holy crap.
"6 months ago i was ready to say this guy was a bust and now he might be a top 10 player in the league after these playoffs!"
"he's like a young Shaq in Orlando, or David Robinson in his prime!"This Ayton thing has been bizarre even by Simmons’s standards.
Simmons and Russilo had a disagreement a few weeks back over whether he or Fox should be in the top 40. Simmons’s whole argument against Fox was that he hadn’t won anything yet. Well, Ayton didn’t win anything until he was the third best player on his team either, Bill."he's like a young Shaq in Orlando, or David Robinson in his prime!"
i'd like to listen back to some of the previous Ayton discussion because i swear Simmons was calling him an unplayable bust in this era.
HouseNeeded a few podcasts for projects this weekend, and was out of my usual stuff. Thought I'd see if Cousin Sal was back with Bill yet. He was not, but there was an episode with Warren Sharp talking NFL. I generally find Sharp somewhat interesting, if a bit too full of himself, so thought I'd give it a try. 10 minutes into House screaming all of his opinions and both him and Simmons calling Warren Sharpe "Sharpie" I'd had enough. :X
HouseThe worst thing you could ever listen to on any podcast is that guy yelling into the mic.
I assume Sal will be on Monday? I’ll resume listening then, however I feel like not listening to any Simmons at all is the winning play. Sal’s stand alone pods are so bad though.
I’m really not a podcast person I guess.
Good chance that Simmons was confusing Asia (the band) with "Africa" (the song). Which would be 100% on-brand for him -- incorrect, tone-deaf and faintly racist.Forget that. He blasted Nantz for being out of touch while thinking his completely unrelated reference from the mid 80s was better. His "heat of the moment" call, still doesn't make sense to me. I think this every time I hear his name.I can’t believe a guy this dumb got that rich.
I've generally liked Simmons over the years. Or at least don't dislike him as much as many. But I haven't listened to him in a year or so, and I can't say I miss it.HouseThe worst thing you could ever listen to on any podcast is that guy yelling into the mic.

Uh, did your friend go in the Eagles thread again?I'd sorta hoped this guy cashed out when he should have and let the schtick and ego fall by the wayside, but it seems like he doesn't. He was fine for the late nineties and early aughts, but eventually everybody turns into Larry King in that industry if they stick around too long.
