The Bob Ferguson Revolution... (1 Viewer)

And not one thing is being mentioned about Freeman in the picture. He caught the most passes last week. Granted it was only one more than Ferguson, but it was his first week playing again. Favre said that Freeman looks great. I see Freeman putting up better stats than Ferguson the rest of the year. 1. His familiarity with Favre, he may move back to flanker with Waler lagging... 2. Ferguson's injury is not the type to go away especially if he is playing on it every week. 3. Even though Freeman is older and slower he runs better routes than Ferguson right now and will be in an open spot for Favre to throw to under pressure.

Good to see the Movement is gaining momentum. However, I have noticed some apprehension and I will try to put your mind at ease with how I happen to see things. Some will disagree. Many will agree....1. Donald Driver was the top-producing WR on the team last year. TRUE. But as I like to often point out (and many people HATE that I do), he had two extremelly long catches for TD last year. Without those 2 catches, he has 7 TDs and just under 900 yards. Those are nice numbers, but hardly SOLID #1 production. More importantly, Driver's # of receptions trended towards a decline as the season went on. Except for one nice outburst of action, he never had an "off the charts game" that didn't include an extremelly long TD reception. Only 3 of his games last year, in my opinion, qualify as #1 WR games. Ferguson is bigger and faster and seems to be drawing the love/attention of his QB, which is one of the main points of my argument. I honeslty think Ferguson will be the #1 in a revived Green Bay offense by the time a 3rd of the season has passed. Driver's injury only speeds up the time-frame as we can all agree, the longer Drvier is gone, the more time Ferguson has to work from the WR1 position in the offense. If Favre goes to the coach's and says "I'm more comfortable with a bigger, faster target as my primary look", then the debate is settled before it begins. Even if Favre does nothing of the sort, Ferguson has the ability to work himself into that position on his own.2. Antonio Freeman - I like Freeman. But if anyone thinks that a guy the Pack let walk 2 years ago was brought in because a 1st rounder (Walker) and a 2nd rounder (Ferguson) can't cut it is sorely mistaken. Freeman was brought in because after Week 1, the team was 0-1 and had 3 WRs with various injuries and a 4th that had yet to show he was a reliable option. Since Freeman wasn't on the roster for the first game, my understanding is that his salary is not guaranteed. I believe that if Karstan Bailey is able to come back healthy this year, Freeman may not last the season. (Just my opinion). Either way, I think that the Pack envision a WR tandem of Fergie and Walker for years to come. The "leap" I am making in establishing the Ferguson movement is to say that THIS is the year for Ferguson to emerge while Walker needs one more year. I expect that next year Driver will be the #3. Edit to add: Freeman no longer has the speed to get the deep ball. He may rack up some nice catches and some first downs, but I think his ypc will be substantially lower then the other WRs. He simply doesn't have the wheels anymore. That's just how I see it.HERD

well said Herd. The only major point that I disagree with is Driver's role on the team next year. If he can't beat out Walker (he has not shot at Bob) then I believe they will try and move him to a team with need a WR. As a proven (although limited) talent, he could command reasonable trade value.

You really don't see a hurting knee and slightly torn ligaments in his ankle as anything to worry about down the road? He is one awkward fall away from the IR.

Everyone in the NFl is one awkward fall from IR.I am not discounting his injury. I am, however, looking at the fact that Ferguson played last week against the lowly Lions. If his injury had been remotely serious, he wouldn't have played as the Pack had to know the Lions were terrible. If Fergie TRULY was hurt in a bad and worsening way, they would have said "you're not playing the next 2 weeks (Lions/Cards) because we can win without you and we need you heeled for the rest of the year."HERD

This Revolution will be televised. At least in GB and Phoenix. Anyway, I am on board, got him on waivers and will be starting him instead of Q. Morgan.

O.K. that's enough of a rest - time for the revolution to heat up again. Last I heard The Bob was probable for Sunday. Any new news?If that's not an interesting enough topic I present: Robert Ferguson vs. Sliced Bread, why Bob is better - discuss. The comrades are restless.....

Here's an update for the Bob Faithful.....

Ferguson optimistic; Driver uncertain

Green Bay News-Chronicle

Robert Ferguson declared himself ready to play Sunday. Donald Driver feels ready to play but is awaiting a declaration from a higher authority.

Such is how things stand with the Green Bay Packers' unsettled receiving position in the final days before their first road game against Arizona.

Ferguson, the No. 2 receiver, said he participated in the entire practice Thursday afternoon at the Don Hutson Center and lined up with the starting unit. Head coach Mike Sherman has closed practice to the media for the second week in a row.

After missing Wednesday's practice for treatment on a sprained medial-collateral ligament in his right knee, Ferguson reported no setbacks after engaging in some contact during the workout conducted in pads.

He aggravated the knee injury in the fourth quarter of the Packers' 31-6 win over Detroit last Sunday and is listed on the injury report as probable for the game at Arizona. Ferguson also has a sprained right ankle stemming from the Packers' season-opening loss to Minnesota on Sept. 7.

"It showed I could get out there and run around," Ferguson said. "I felt fine. I'm good (for Sunday)."

Driver, meanwhile, isn't sure if he'll be cleared to play Sunday.

For the second straight day, the Pro Bowl receiver was relegated to running routes and catching passes from No. 3 quarterback Craig Nall away from the team segments of practice.

Driver had been sidelined since sustaining a strained neck and a concussion on a frightening fall while trying to make a catch late in the season opener.

Listed as questionable for Sunday's game, Driver said the decision on whether he'll suit up at Arizona rests with the medical staff and Sherman.

"I'm just doing what they say. If they say, 'Run routes,' I run routes," Driver said after Thursday's practice.

Although he hasn't been subjected to contact in the two days of practice this week, Driver said he doesn't necessarily need to absorb contact before playing in a game again.

"Contact is contact," Driver said. "Receivers don't get contact all year long (in practice). So, whenever they decide to let me have some contact, I'll get it."

If Driver isn't cleared to play Sunday, he'll likely be ready for the Sept. 29 game at Chicago.

Javon Walker, who replaced Driver in the lineup Sunday, has continued to work as the starting flanker in practice.

I'm nervous, think I'm gonna start Fer over Dillon @ my flex spot. I can <want> to see Fer bust a huge game on the Swiss cheese Cardinal Defense. Now watch Dillon decide to get back his rushing record :(

Our revolution is being repressed! I'm looking to point fingers - Mr. Knee? Mr. Favre? What is to be done?Oh well, at least he had a better day than Driver....

Well, I'm not prepared to write-off Bob as being the #1 in Green Bay. However, it may be time to reevaluate how significant the "#1 in Green Bay" role is. Think of it in revoutionary terms...When the American Revolution took place, America was beginning to realize that there were riches aplenty in this country. They saw that a country of prosperity could be established and run by the people! Yeah! The Bob Ferguson Revolution may not be like this. This may be more of a "Yeah@! Bob has the #1 spot!" kind of revolution where we suddenly realize that the proverbial 'countryside' is all salted fields and swampland. My point: Favre isn't what he used to be. The team will be in just enough games that they don't air it out. Favre will be just bad enough that even his #1 guy isn't a top-10 WR.We may need to find a new cause. Anyone up for "The Andre Johnson Show?" I got my tickets on draft day...HERD

Left fourth w/hurt knee and didn't return - anyone with any type of update? He's available in one of my leagues and I'm contemplating picking him up if my WW bid for Boldin (he was still available and I was shocked!) fails.

We may need to find a new cause. Anyone up for "The Andre Johnson Show?" I got my tickets on draft day...
Andre is his own revolution all unto himself - he doesn't need any prostelitizing. It sure was fun watching him smack those little KC dbs around all day yesterday. He brought the hammer down on my money league yesterday - I expect more good things to come.As for Fergie, I do believe a lessening of expectations would be prudent. As you say he may win the revolution, but its looking more like the Croation revolution, not the Russian, American or even French.

I'm right here. Still. Bob's playing for me again this week, right along the "Johnson & Johnson" combo (Chad and Andre) as my WR3/Flex.HERD

I'm here, but I got my revolutionary wires crossed. Started Ferguson over Boldin at the last minute. The 6 point difference cost me a win (what with Garner giving me the old corn-jabbin).Too - many - revolutions!

Picked up Andre and am starting him over Fergie this week....Bob will stay on my roster for a little while longer though.

As a charter member of the Drugrunner Revolution, I spent my fliers on Hollings, McGahee, Leftwich, and Palmer. The Fergie's, Boldin's, and Johnson's are obviously a dime a dozen.

I'm going to be sitting Roberto this week, hopefully it'll give his knee a chance to get up to snuff. But I still expect some goodies from him as the season progresses.

Just ressurecting this fun thread to counter some of the more acrimonious ones that are on the front page (which I had a hand in making acrimonious I'm afraid).Anyway, he's not on the injury report this week, which I take to be good news. I'm still not ready to start him though.Does he reclaim his #2 role this week, or even press Driver for #1? Is Seattle's D for real? Is Favre a shadow of his former self? What do the comrades think?Break time's over Robert - get back to revolutionizing!!!

He's #2.I don't know that I would call him pushing Driver this week... I think in the end it will end up 1a and 1b. Driver is still a good downfield threat and Favre has confidence in him, Ferguson is a big target with a million miles of heart. He'll get his. The way he's fought through injury and lobbied for play time says a lot in my book. This week is the first week that the Green Bay passing Offense will be fully intact and functional. All 3 WR's, both TE's and Ahman. If they sputter this week, things are bad for the O in cheeseland. It all depends on what the Seattle Defense wants to do. If they scheme to stop favre, then Ahman Green will be the stud. If they put 7-8 men in the box, I have a feeling Favre and Ferguson/Driver are going to put up big numbers.F

I've heard the weather might not favor the passing game this week. I don't know how much I buy into the weather thing affecting games except in really extreme circumstances - is this week in GB a case of extremely poor weather?

mid 40's and chance of rain.PERFECT football weather... favre's the best QB i have ever seen in the crap weather.F

So is the revolution still in full gear or have we folded up the tents??It looks like Ferguson might finally be healthy. Can he get in sync with Favre or has he missed too much time to make much of a difference until a few more weeks have passed? If he had never been hurt I think he was well worth a spot. Now that Favre has all of his receivers back I look for him to start picking it up and tossing more TDs. Just a matter of who gets them.Ferguson has been dropped in all of my leagues and is just sitting there for the taking. He could either be a huge steal because everyone devalued him so much or just another scrub at the end of my bench.

Pick him up.The only reason I'm not starting him this week is because I've got better match ups elsewhere.

Next to Onterrio Smith, Bob Ferguson is the most overhyped player on this board.Yep, you guessed it, I'm not buying it one bit.

A 2-2 start and too many injuries to Bob have caused me to lose my religion. While I feel shame for releasing him, I am still a huge fan because of the grit this guy has shown this season and I really hope he he has a good year. However, I think there are too many options in GB to make any WR's consistent producers from week to week, except for Driver, and even he will have some clunkers from time to time.

Bob's in this week for the HERD. Q. Morgan on the bench....REVOLUTION CALLING YOU!!!!HERD
You're a bold man Herd. I am sitting Bobbie boy for O Smith (his first start for me). Knowing your feelings about O, would you start him over Bob? In case anyone is curious, this is not a WDIS, I'm playing Smith but Im curious as to Herd's take on this.

Bob morphed into my WR5 due to injuries and suspect performance. With the season about 1/3 over and it becoming clear who's doing what, he no longer has a roster spot on my team.I'm pulling for him, but he became expendable for depth at RB, a more valuable position.HERD

Ferguson sucks. the revolution is over. (actually it never started). he should be dropped in every league.
If you have the roster flexibility, Ferguson's worth hanging onto only because someone's bound to emerge as the No. 2 behind Driver. That being said, even from the beginning, I was never convinced Ferguson was significantly better than Javon Walker - if at all.I've got Walker and have resisted the temptation to cut him, just because I haven't seen anything up to this point to indicate Ferguson is a clear-cut No. 2.

I'm waiting this one out. Right now there isn't a primary target on GB other than Driver - the ball is getting distributed evenly. I'm of a mind that Roberto is still not 100% but given a few more non productive weeks I will definitely have to consider that the revolution was a failure.

Groovus, et al., I have a story to share...In the late 1940's (I think), Raul and Fidel Castro planned a revolution of their own. However they didn't "plan" very well and they and their followers ended up in a swamp sick and starving. However, those who survived regrouped and launched ANOTHER revolution which had a bit more success. :) I'm not comparing Bob to the first (and hopefully last) bastion of communism in the northwestern hemisphere. I AM saying that not every revolution starts the way that the proponents expect, but that doens't mean there's no hope for the future. Viva le' Bob......later!!!! :football: HERD

Hey, I haven't bailed on Roberto yet, I'm just moving the revolution underground until there's more proof of critical mass. But right now things don't look too hot in the swamp.....Here's hoping for a Roberto resurgance and happier days where we can all light up cubans in the endzone to celebrate.

Time to bail. Favre connected with 8 different receivers last night (WR, RB, TE) and Ferguson was not one of them. As a starting WR with Favre at QB that is absolutely pathetic.

Goat-Loyal to the end...almost. Seriously I keep thinking Favre will lock in on a favorite WR. Maybe he will, but not Fergie.
