The Browns are after #johnnyfootball. (1 Viewer)

Manziel carved up the best team in the NCAA two years in a row. That guy is going first round as long as he doesn;t get injured or do something else stupid between now and the draft. More than likely a top 10 pick at least.

Doesn't anybody remember the draft from the last two years? Weeden? EJ Manual? Tannehill? None of those guys graded out very high this time of the year and look where they went. Every year a team falls in love with a guy and they go way higher than they should.
Yes, because if history tells us anything, it's that small noodle armed QBs who dominate in college are certain to be top 10 picks in the draft.

Weeden, Manual, and Tannehill all have prototypical size and arm strength, safe to assume that's why GMs fell in love with those guys. Russell Wilson helps Manziel's case to go earlier than he did, but Wilson has a rocket for an arm which Manziel doesn't, so I wouldn't expect Manziel to go that much earlier than Wilson did, especially given his character issues.

What he is good at (broken plays, playing outside the pocket) I don't think will translate too well to the NFL. So a team taking him that high is either banking on him being sooo good at running and playing off the cuff that it will work in the NFL (IOW, they would need to believe he is the level of athlete that Kaep is) or banking on him learning a more traditional style of play. We shall see. HE's a great college player. I just don't see an NFL QB when I look at him.

I doubt it. He is 6'1, a head case and an average arm.

Right, and in reality he's less than 6'1, has less than an average arm, and is more than a head case :)

Tebow 2.0
You apparently missed the perfect throws he made to Evans down the sidelines against the most talented team in the NCAA.
I hope to God you are not referencing their first drive.
And if I was (yes, I was), then what? You don't agree that those throws were great throws?
Hell no. First time watching football?
So its your nature to automatically be a ####?

I think Manziel can succeed in the NFL. He has improved as a pocket passer, has a hair trigger release and is very accurate. Pocket awareness is off the chart.

Between the ears, I think he is very intelligent... but cocky and has an inflated sense of entitlement.

If he ends up in the right system [re: Chip Kelly in PHI] he would take the NFL by storm. I don't think he is a good fit for Norv's though, which was the zygote of a thought that started this thread.

I don't know what you guys have been watching but Manziel is a gamer. He'll push the limits off the field in the pros just like he does in college but plenty of teams are willing to take that chance.

I didn't say that picking Manziel high is a good idea, but it will happen barring injury or some off the field stupidity. He very well could be Tim Tebow 2.0 in the NFL. I don't know, but every year QB's go higher than they should and this guy will too...

Wait. There are people out there that think Manziel will be a good NFL QB? There are others that think he will be a highly drafted prospect?

Lobbing up balls down the sideline to Evans. Impressive.

Sorry, that was a #### thing to say. I apologize. I think my hate for Manziel came out a bit there. BTW, loved you in Toy Story 2.

You gotta be hating pretty hard, or haven't watched the kid to type your last sentence.

Christian Ponder went #12 in the first round and I'd never heard of him. If Manziel keeps doing what he's already done, he's a lock for a top ten pick. I however believe he's going to get even better.

I'm hating hard, but I have watched him plenty. He's a great college QB. I don't even care about the off-field stuff, except in terms of how it will effect his draft stock. He just doesn't have an NFL skill-set.

If you had never even heard of Ponder, that's even less reason to take your word on Manziel.

I would say he doesn't have a traditional NFL QB skill set... but the game is changing. For S&G's, let's look at 1st rounders the past 6 years:

EJ Manuel

Luck, Griffin, Tannehill and Weeden

Newton, Locker, Gabbert, Ponder

Bradford, Tebow

Stafford, Sanchez, Freeman

Ryan, Flacco

I included 6 years ago because those two are coming into their prime and might be the last of the classic NFL QBs.

I didn't type this list to go through and point out the hits, misses and purgatory... more to show that the game has changed from QBs being 6'3" immobile QBs with big arms to a more athletic, multi threat QB. It's happening in college, too.

These are the QBs getting drafting in the 1st round. If you want to say that Manziel's arm is below everyone on this list, fine. Someone has to finish last. But a big arm alone does not equate success in the NFL. I would argue that decision making, accuracy and timing are more important. If you can extend the play for an extra second or two, even better when coupled with those other skills.

There are a handful of QB prospects that I like more than Manziel, but if he gets into the right system (again, Chip Kelly or another up tempo style) he can succeed in the NFL and be fantasy relevant.

Doesnt Manzell have to play one more year after this one to be eligible for the NFL draft? He was only a freshman last year
Redshirt. Rule is 3 years out of high school whether you play or not.
