The Chargers will DESTROY the Bears opening day (1 Viewer)

If Tommy Harris plays the Bears win. If not, Chargers win....... simple as that.
Jamal Williams > Tommy Harris as far as interior lineman go
Really??? I am pretty sure Tommie Harris was getting Defensive Player of the Year considerations the first half of the year last year.Williams.....never heard him mentioned?
Nose tackles in a 3-4 don't get the glory, but Williams is big key to the d. You always here the announcers bring up WilliamsThe Pro football Weekly preview does their rankings of best players at each position. They have Jamal Williams #2 at DT (Kevin Williams #1) Harris is #4...so someone agrees with me :goodposting:
Shawne Merriman gets most of the press, but Jamal Williams might be the best player on the Chargers' defense. I'd probably favor Merriman by a nose, but it's close.
I have always been reluctant to give Williams much praise but he's really deserved it the last couple games. I think Williams vs Benson decides the game. If the Bears can't run they'll lose but with two new interior LB's and possibly a rookie safety starting for SD there's every chance that CHI will be able to run the ball. It's interesting Ron Rivera(the typical over hyped side-story) could actually have more of an impact in this game than most.Another wild-card player that could have a big impact imo is Desmond Clark. I'm not especially confident in the coverage skills of SD LB's now that Edwards is gone.

San Diego will still be great against the run. Edwards was good in pass protection, but not in run support and Godfrey was in and out all the time anyway. The only way the Bears beat SD in SD is if they go gangbusters in ST or Rivers implodes.

Tommie Harris (23 years old, 3 years in the league)- 106 tackles 11.5 sacks 3 fumble recoveries.Jamal Williams (31 years old, 9 years in the league)- 298 tackles 11.5 sacks 3 fumble recoveries.Tommie Harris 3 year career equated to Jamal Williams' 9 year career: 318 tackles 34.5 sacks 9 fumble recoveries.I do realize that Williams' job is to stuff the run in the 3-4 scheme, but statistically Tommie Harris has him and is only 23 folks....he is still getting better...now thats scary.

You can't compare a 3-4 Nose Tackle to a 4-3 DT. His job isn't to make tackles or get sacks. His job is to stuff the interior linemen to allow the LBs room. Arguing their worth based on statistics is ridiculous. Any team is going to take Tommy Harris first because of his age, but Williams' will be one of, if not the best 3-4 Nose Tackles next year and he has been for the last 3 or 4 prior. The fact that you had never even heard of him prior to a conversation involving the Bears doesn't exactly enhance your credibility.

Did you seriously read my posts?I do know who Jamal Williams is, he was selected in the supplemental draft by the Chargers in the second round. However, I said you never hear him mentioned for Defensive Player of the Year Award....go back and look at my post now.Secondly, I did say that I realize that Williams job is to stuff the run in the 3-4, however statistics have to be accounted and Tommie Harris is getting better, while Williams is on the downside of his career. To take it a step further...Tommie Harris has been in the league 3 years and his team has been to the playoffs twice and the super bowl once. Jamal Williams......didn't think so.

 What does that have to do with anything?
Just skip the first two points????Team success is the only thing that matters and Tommie Harris has made a huge impact in leading the Bears.

... so in your opinion Booger McFarland is better than Tommie Harris?

You win. I can't compete with comparing a 3-4 NT and a 4-3 DT on statistics nor can I argue with the league's best players being determined by playoff appearances. That's logic that just confounds me.Someone ought to tell Jason Taylor to give back that trophy because Miami sucks.

No because they were an AFC Championship team before him....that also wasn't the point....I know your being sarcastic. The point is that Harris is younger(meaning he is still developing) than Williams, is more active than Williams, and was in the discussion for Defensive Player of the Year award at mid-season.Jamal Williams is a great Run-stuffing NT. The Bears had two of them in Ted Washington and Keith Traylor a few years ago, so I do understand the run-stuffing DT as well. However, having seen both aspects of DT, I would rather have the gap penetrating DT that can blow things up in the backfield.Talk about high-jacking a thread...lol

I was going to post this today before logging on, but since the other thread was supposed to be reg season predictions, I'll put this here.

The Chargers will punish and embarass the Bears in front of a national audience (4pm game) on openening weekend.

Double digit win, Merriman sacks Rexy at least twice, while the team gets at least 7 sacks and 4 turnovers. This starts the frauds from the midway to an 8-8 season if they are lucky

Oh and the Eagles also beat them at the Linc later in the year
Never really understood the joy some people seem to get in mocking the Bears recent success.Been like that for a couple years now.

Seems like the Bears can't just be an "above average" team on the rise. They are either DOMINANT MONSTERS.... or some type of fraud that gets "lucky" or undeserving of their success recently by being overrated.

People everywhere should just love and embrace them and then the world would be at peace.

And for the record, I do think there's a very good chance the Charges will win this one. It won't be some type of exposing of the frauds though. That's just silly talk.

Go watch the Cowboys if you want to see a beloved, over-hyped bunch of media darlings that can't ever really win anything.

I would just like to add, while the Chargers may very well beat the Bears, and I think they will - it is Rex Grossman who is going to be destroyed and exposed not only on opening weekend but throughout the entire 2007 campaign. The rest of the team will be working damn hard to overcome his ineptness all year long.

I think the Bears are gonna get a sound whoopin' in Week One.

With Tank Johnson gone, and Lance Briggs a probable hold-out - or not in football shape - the Bolts and Chiefs in Week 2 should have NO problem running the ball right down the Bears throats.

Sorry, not buying that the Bears will get killed by SD. All the talk about the Bears D has been who they are loosing this off-season. What I see as far more relevant is who they are getting back. If Tommy Harris is healthy, he a top 3 DT in the NFL. He is probably a top 5 Dlineman and top 10 defensive player overall IMO. The guy is simply dominant. Also, Mike Brown will be returning and offers a huge upgrade in the secondary. The aspect that interests me the most about this game is how Chi utilizes Urlacher. Will they have him spy LT or help with Gates? My bet is he draws LT. Also, can Chi run the ball this year with only Benson. Especially vs. a D as stout as SD? If this game were played in Chi, I'd pick Chi to win. Seeing as it's in SD, I'm picking the Chargers.

:lmao: They'll be dealing with the A.J. Feeley era by thenBack on topic, it wouldn't surprise me to see the Chargers win - I think they are the most talented team in the NFL.
:lmao: Eagles can't beat the Bears with Feely?I think they could do it with Jeff George.
 Delusional much?
I heard the same thing last year when the "experts" were picking the Skins to win the division and the Eagles to finish last.I can tell you're a football expert. ;)
What happened in the playoffs? The Bears destroyed the same team the Eagles couldnt beat genius.

I'm not much for ripping on posts, but this is one of the worst things I've ever read. If this is honestly the kind of logic you use to determine which team is better than another, you seriously need to find another hobby. Terrible terrible logic. :sadbanana:

Colts>Bears

Colts<Houston

So, by your logic, Bears<Houston

Philly>Houston

So, by your logic, Philly>Bears

:lmao: Yeah, because you can compare the Eagles loss AT New Orleans, and the Bears win AT Chicago. Great comparison. Also, the teams simply match up differently, and it's not just football, it's a fact of sports.
