I don't think Sapp has any game-breaking ability...but he would be a good runner in between the tackles.

Young OTOH looks to be a game breaker and have good speed and big-play type skills.

LOL. Young was actually drafted in my redraft league, so I had to go get Sapp just for sh_ts and giggles.

Shanahan will pull another trick out of his hat , Mike Bell.

He is the player on this squad who knowns the offense the best , and he showed he can play last season .

he showed he can play so well....they moved him to Fullback :stirspot:
May be slightly off topic. But just picked him up in a league where I have Westbrook/Jordan after seeing the threads regarding Travis Henry's failed test this afternoon. Just 2 minutes ago got offered Thomas Jones and Lendale White for him.

I think S Young is the "change of pace" RB that was needed to give Travis a breather and keep the defenses guessing.

Cecil Sapp is more of the workhorse RB. He's 5'11" 229 lb. He's been in the league for a few years (5 IIRC).

Selvin Young is a Rookie out of Texas. He's 5'11" and only 203 lb. He might not last too long with more than 5-8 touches a game. Inexperience and giving up the size could shorten his stay.

FWIW: Travis is 5'9" 230 lb.

I would expect more of a RBBC with Sapp getting 60% of the plays, while Young will be more 3rd Down RB and change of pace.

Am I missing something about Sapp? I dont really understand all the love. His stats through his 5 year career:

37 rushes 189 yards 1 TD

14 catches 84 yards 0 TDs

Thats in 5 years. I just dont see him turning into a 15-20 carry/game back.

Admittedly I dont know much about the guy though.

I think Young will be the main guy, but most likely more of an RBBC than if Henry was around.

I think Young's the guy if Henry's gone. If I had to guess between Sapp and Bell after that, I'd guess Bell, but it's just a hunch. No idea how the carries will be distributed, though, whether it's a 50/50 split or a 70/30 split.

History is not kind to those trying to predict Shanahan's calls based on the past. And I'm not sure he places game-breaking ability above any other strength that a running back must possess either.

They all will be given a chance at some point this season. I traded Young for Greg Jennings earlier today. I picked up Sapp and Hall in one dynasty league and just Sapp in the other. As soon as anyone of these guys have a big game I will trade them.

Feel like posting Rueben Droughns numbers from Detroit for comparison?

I love how Mike Bell somehow knows the offense better than anyone, namely Cecil Sapp. :)
 Anyone who ever watched CSU knows Sapp>>BellI voted for some dude off the street because it made me laugh. Nobody knows the real answer. I see it as Young between the 20's with Sapp and Bell spelling him for a breather every now and then, with Sapp being the main dude close to the goal line.

Tough to compare Droughns to Sapp. Droughns barely got a chance to show his stuff -- he spent his rookie year on IR and then only got to play in 3 games his second year before Detroit gave up on him.

Not even close.. It's Young's. He has practiced with 1st team.. Gotten the carries outside of Henry and Shanny likes him..

The inevitable headache and hangover that comes with drafting a Denver RB has arrived. And I thought I drank enough water and took enough advil before I drafted him to prevent it.....

Young's the obvious choice, and it looks like he'll be the guy they go with to begin with. but do you really think the minute he starts to falter shanahan wont let someone else run with it? the last 15 or so years have shown me one thing about the denver running game - it's not difficult for a back with good to great vision or athleticism to flourish in that system. i think at some point someone else comes in and at least takes a couple of games worth of carries from young.

I did draft Mike Bell in a very late round thinking Henry was hurt and he would be the starter. I immediately dropped him for Jake Delhomme after week #1. I broke the cardinal sin of drafting a Denver RB and have since confessed. I go now and will sin no more; nor will I consider trying to guess which way Ratface will try and screw the FF owners by playing a shell game with RBs.

I'm wondering which RBBC is more cloudy at this point; Oakland or Denver? I give the edge to Shanny just for past experience at ####ing people over.

While I like Selvin Young, I don't see him being a 25+ touch a game RB. RBBC with Sapp or Bell is more likely. Why not Selvin Young as RB#1 in Denver? * he's young & inexperienced (rookie) * he's small (207 lb) * still learning the offense * crowded backfield * they are already missing WR#1 J Walker * Young is a "Change of Pace" RB * his practicing with 1st Team is as a 3rd Down RB/Change of Pace * Shanny will not give him a long leashYeah, I know the other small RB's stories too (Westy, Addai, Bush) but none of them get 25 touches a game and they all have injury concerns. Travis was a biggger bull rush RB, between the tackles type. Young is an outside/sweep RB. They are not the same type of RB. They would have to change the whole offense to fit his skill set. Shanny will not do that.

Why don't you check out Derrick Ward's career stats before this season as well. It's called getting an opportunity and making the most of it.

I have been picking up Andre Hall in all leagues this morning. History has taught me to bet on the unexpected with Shanny.

This situation screams RBBC rotation with Sapp and Young getting the first shot, Bell and Hall spelling if one of those two fumbles...

It looks like it'll be Young, but I pcicked up Hall anyway.

The comment on the fumblitis in the other thread gives me pause.

I think it's

Young

Bell

Hall

Sapp

regardless of who is "featured," I see Sapp being somewhat situational: 2-5 touches per game including some TD vulturing.

exactly
Not sure it be Young. Some unknowns here. I think Young has had one big fumble lost in a game already, if holding on to the ball becomes an issue, it's open season. My gut feeling tells me all 3 backs play, but Bell gets the goal line and most points per game.

If Sapp was starter material why would Shanny bother with Mike Bell, Savin Young, Garrison Hearst, Ron Dayne, Tatum Bell, Quentin Griffin, Cedic Cobbs, and Damien Nash all of whom have gotten better opportunities than Sapp has during his time with the club.
