I know the hype is already pretty high, but it's about to explode....From Rotoworld:

While training for today's Pro Day, Oklahoma State WR Dez Bryant reportedly ran a 4.32 forty-yard dash last week.Repeating the time could get Bryant back into the top-ten conversation. It remains to be seen what he'll run with 20 NFL teams expected to be on hand Tuesday, but another sub-4.4 would vehemently quell concerns that he lacks ideal speed and has been out of shape. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Bryant is expected to dine with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on Wednesday night.
I'm in love with this kid and am actually pretty happy that he didn't get to finish his junior year or the hype would already be so high that the 1.01 in rookie drafts would be untouchable. If you don't take him at 1.01 in a PPR (hell, even in a non-PPR) you will regret it. Many have compared him to Andre Johnson and I completely agree. I wouldn't hesitate to take him over Crabtree in a startup as I see him as a better prospect. He's that good.I've never been this excited for a pro day. :nerd: :wall:

the only other time I can remember of you being this excited about a WR prospect was Charles Rogers coming out of Mich. State.........

Twenty teams expected to attend today's workout for Oklahoma St. WR Dez Bryant. Last week, Bryant clocked a 4.32 in the 40-yard dash.

Al Davis is going to do it again!

Is it me or am I the only one hoping he runs a slow 40 so he doesn't go to the Raiders. I how top picks this year and am just dreading Spiller to the 49rs and Dez to Oakland.

Per Schefter Tweet - Initial reports on Dez Bryant's 40-yard dash are not encouraging. One scout in attendance texted that Bryant clocked an unconfirmed 4.57.

This doesn't surprise me. He's definitely not a blazer, but he has very solid hands, strength and athleticism which makes up for the raw speed on the field.

I'm not surprised either. I honestly believed that his injury was fabricated so he would have more time to get in better shape because his 40 wasn't up to snuff in the days leading up to the combine.

4.32 definitely seemed a bit low to me, but I think he's one of those players that plays faster than his 40 time.

Updating a previous item, Oklahoma State's Dez Bryant averaged an unconfirmed 4.55 in the forty-yard dash at his private workout Tuesday.

League sources tell Dolphins beat writer Armando Salguero that Bryant ran 4.50 against the wind and 4.60 with the wind, which seems backward. Bryant also posted a 38-inch vertical. Though Bryant's game tape remains elite, the forty times are disappointing and will do nothing to stem the tide of his slipping draft stock. Mar. 30 - 1:29 pm et

Mike Williams 2.0

Big? Check

Great Hands? Check

Body Control? Check

Sat out a year? Check

Questionable Character? Check

Slooooow? Check

Mirror images of each other. Watch film of Mike Williams from college, it's the same as Dez Bryants.

Good luck to whatever team drafts this epic bust prospect.

According to Armando Salguero (via Twitter):

Source tells me Dez Bryant had a 38 inch vert leap & ran 4.55 average. He ran once with wind (4.6), once against (4.5).

keep in mind that pro-day times are almost always .1 or so faster then what prospects official runs at the combine are. That 4.55 pro day time is more like a 4.65 combine electronic time.

Bryant posts expected 40 times during private workout

Oklahoma State WR Dez Bryant is still going through position drills at his private workout for NFL teams, but I do have his 40-yard dash times to pass along.

Bryant began the workouts Tuesday in his hometown of Lufkin, Texas, with the 40, posting times of 4.52, 4.68 and 4.52. He was asked to run the third time due to the discrepancy between the first two times.

Early during his position drills, Bryant did drop some passes, but he looked much better after getting into the flow of the drills with former Oklahoma State QB Bobby Reid.

The notable NFL coaches and executives in attendance today include Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, coach Mike Singletary and director of player personnel Trent Baalke of the 49ers, Packers coach Mike McCarthy and director of college scouting John Dorsey, Ravens wide receivers coach Jim Hostler, Bucs wide receivers coach Eric Yarber and Raiders scout Cliff Branch.

Boom goes the dynamite.
 to Dez's hopes to go in the top 15 of the draft.I'd say this definitely drops him below Spiller/Mathews in rookie drafts, and he might not even be the top WR drafted now.

Personally i think he's a late 1st/early 2nd round prospect at this point, and even that might be too high to draft the 2nd coming of mike williams.

Hold on Dez

not necessarily........not every player w/o elite speed but with hands + athleticiism becomes Fitz or Jerry Rice.......I.e., players who made up the speed deficiency in their games with other physical attributes, plus some very important intangibles like work ethic, football I.Q., and professionalism

This is silly.Big? Mike Williams was tight end big. And by "big" I mean fat. Dez is 218 lbs of muscle.Sat out a year? Mike Williams did it because he was an idiot who hired an agent and then tried to back out of the draft. Dez was forced to because of some idiot named Deion Sanders.Slow? I'm of the opinion that 40 time does not make a player. Bryant plays much faster than this. He's such a fluid, smooth runner with the football in his hands, that it makes up for his lack of elite speed.Questionable character? Maybe.....but there have been elite guys (Moss, TO) with character issues. This does not kill a player.Body Control? The only body control BMW had was how large he could make it by pulling his chair up to the buffet at Sizzler. You clearly do not like Dez, but I really do not get this comparison.

Bryant ran a third time of 4.52 due to the discrepancy between the first two times. He also dropped some passes early in drills before settling down and "getting into the flow." Though Bryant's game tape remains elite, the forty times are mediocre and may do nothing to stem the tide of his slipping draft stock. He remains likely to be the first receiver off the board, however.

--------

I read this as he ran two 4.52s and a 4.68. The 4.68 could have been a slip. The more concerning thing is he dropped some balls; hopefully it was just nerves getting to him.

I don't see how this possibly hurts his draft stock. Everyone was already of the opinion that he wasn't a burner. The 4.32 would've vaulted him to Top 5-7 IMO, but since that wasn't accurate, he's as fast as we thought he was. His draft position shouldn't suffer because he was "as fast as we thought he was".

Keep in mind that he's a BIG WR. He's not Mardy Gilyard running a mid 4.5. He's 6'2 215.

This was added to Bryant's results (above link):
UPDATE: A few more Bryant numbers to pass along. He measured in at 6-foot-1 1/2 and 224 pounds, and he had a 38-inch vertical and an 11-foot-1 broad jump. Due to the hand-held times at workouts, you'll see 40-yard dash times between 4.49 and 4.60 for Bryant.

Looks like he could lose about 7-10 lbs. I wonder if that brings his 40 down much.

You obviously didn't watch Mike Williams in college. He wasn't fat, he had great body control, and was viewed as a top 10 NFL draft pick by pretty much every legitimate source had he been able to come out in 2004, and even after sitting a year he was picked 10th.In retrospect he's a fat slob, no talent loser. But during his college career he was thought of as highly as Dez is now.

Maybe he is a slow starter with good to elite top end speed.

I have always thought they should time these guys in the 15 yard dash from a stqanding start with electronic timing, should test their reaction time to start at all, and should time them through a speed trap of ten yards between the 30 and the 40 of a 40 yard dash. doing so would tell me how fast they can get off the ball, how fast they can be in the area recievers normally make their first move, and how fast they can run once they are up to speed.

OK....so you want to pick the biggest (outside of Charles Rogers) bust at WR in NFL history to compare him to, when there are many other similar WRs who have had success? Got it.Why not compare him to Larry Fitzgerald who ran only 4/100ths faster than Dez at his combine? They both have a lot of similarities.
