The fantasy implications of the Favre situation? (1 Viewer)

As a non-Homer who's just trying to understand the eventualities of this situation, I only care about the fantasy implications of Favre's return. Given that, I'm tired of wading through the emotional BS of the other Favre threads. I just want to know if the following analysis is correct?

If Favre seeks reinstatement, the Packers will probably have to play him or trade him, because they'll be paying him a lot of money since he has two years left on his contract. The other option, of course, is to release him (which I don't think they'll do) where he'll obviously find a home somewhere else. However, if he's reinstated and not traded, the likelihood of him being Rodgers backup is near zero because of the financial commitment. Is this correct?

Assuming the above IS correct, it appears that Favre will be playing somewhere in 08...so, it appears that a QB-starved team should take a chance on Favre in a Dynasty rookie draft, right?

I guess we were running a little low on Favre threads in the top 25... might as well start another

Pretty simple- if Favre comes back he'll have more fantasy value than if he stays retired...

The Packers have already said that they will welcome Favre back as a backup to Rodgers. They have also said they will NOT release him. Favre has a similar stipulation in his contract to that of a no-trade clause, so if they attempted to trade him somewhere he did not want to go, he could veto it. Also, Favre has already said that TB is too hot for him, so MIA would probably be out of the question too. I really only see Favre going to MIA or an AFC team. Since MIA has J. Taylor to trade, that is a possibility, but I doubt Favre would want to go there.

Favre WANTS to play in GB, but he also just wants to play.

He hasn't filed for reinstatement yet with the commish, so this really isn't even an issue yet.

My opinion is that he waits until a few weeks into the season and then when A. Rodgers goes down, GB will come calling.

You have to be pretty QB starved to take a fliar on him, but be my guest

That's rather odd- Yahoo being on top of things. Last year Meyshawn Johnson was avalible for a couple weeks. I guess Favre retired so long ago they just took him out right away.

He does? I have read just the opposite. I believe they would allow his agent to find an acceptable trade but this is so late his options are limited. Maybe Tampa or Miami but he says it's too hot(I hear). ATLANTA IS POSSIBLE TOO BUT NOT A CONTENDER. They won't let him go to Minnesota.

His options are limited. As for being just a backup in Green Bay that is debatable. He threw James Campen under the bus when the coach told him if he came back to the Packers they'd have to play him. Who knows?

I picked him up for $1 a long tim ago and am letting this play out. I could see him playing in Green Bay if they gave Rodgers a lot of playing time for a year, but that option is dwindling.

Favre has not filed for reinstatement yet. Nothing will happen until he does.
