The Giants running game (1 Viewer)

I want to turn this into a slightly different discussion.

Preseason, members were discussing either why Jacobs would excel or why he would not :cough: HK :cough:

I remember it leaning towards the Giants offensive line as being sub-par. Now 6 games into the season and all three Giants running backs becoming successful. Is the Giants offensive line excelling? Or is the development of the passing game allowing the running game to excel?

Probably a bit of both. They are not facing 8 men in the box as they need to double plax. And for a bruiser like Jacobs, that's a very good thing as he can hit the hole, punish the first linebacker and get an extra 3 yards while the next linebacker attempts to pull him down. All he has to do is run through the hole and fall forward and he's going to get 4 yards with so little traffic in his way. And a guy like Ward has a better opportunity to get around the outside with less guys cheating up to stop the run...

NYG team rushing rankings for further discussion:Yards per game 12thYards per carry 9thAttempts per game 8th*Yards rushing 8th**Totals are higher than YPG/YPC rank due to byesNot sure if the line is "excelling" but the team is in the top third of the NFL in categories listed. Haven't looked at SOS to see how that factors into the equation, either.

Here is their sched from here on out:SF @MIA BYE DAL @DET MIN @CHI @PHI WAS @BUF NE

I like SF at home and against Miami. Detroit should be a good running day. Chicago isn't stopping the run much (ADP) and that lovely Buff matchup week 16 looks pretty good. Jacobs is my 4th RB, but if I'm playing week 16 he might have a flex spot open to him...

Schedule looks pretty good.............the line has looked real good which really surprises me. The preseason reports said they were a below average group but they are opening some serious holes. And yes, the threat of the passing game has helped for sure.

good discussion . . .

footballoutsiders.com has the NYG OL rated 5th in run blocking - last year they were 4th . . .

Agreed. Another indicator that the OL is performing is that they are doing it with a rotation at RB. Losing Barber obviously was a big loss, but they are still getting it done with a pretty big drop off in talent at the RB position.

True enough...now as a Jacobs-Ward owner I wish they would give one of them 70% of the carries!!!

Should also be noted that the Giant's o-line has only given up 7 sacks (Eli has only been sacked 6 times), tied for 4th fewest in the league.

This is a very good all-round unit. A lot of people here thought the Giants offense wouldn't be able to maintain the same levels of production without Tiki and Petitgout. A lot of people thought Diehl at LT and Seubert at LG would be major downgrades. They were wrong.
