The Lauren Boebert Thread (1 Viewer)

also should throw in a Kyler Murray provision that they need to be actually reading the bill language without being distracted by stuff like Netflix, TikTok or E-Trade
Each voter should turn in a cliffs note style card that states what they think is in the bill they are voting for and why they are voting yes or no to the bill.

It would institute a new rule in the official House rules, that anything receiving a vote must have been publicly available in electronic form for a number of minutes that’s double the number of pages.

For example, last week’s 2,232 page omnibus bill would have to have been publicly available on the internet for a minimum of about 3.1 days.

Some may argue that even this would not have been enough — it wouldn’t be enough time for the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) to calculate an estimate for how much a bill’s provisions would cost, for example. But it’s a start.

(A rule in a similar vein already technically exists, but it was waived for last week’s omnibus vote. It’s not clear whether this resolution, if passed, couldn’t also be waived.)
Maybe they should just stop waiving the review period.

I don't know for sure, but I doubt waiver requires unanimity, so "just stop waiving the review period" may not work for individual legislators.
The idea that any individual Congressman is reading the text of an actual bill is pretty farfetched.

Staffers research, help write, and keep Congresspeople up to speed on what's in the bills and it's rare there are any surprises (it has happened though).

IIRC if the regular rules get waived a bill requires a 2/3rds vote to pass so it can't be used for the 50/50 stuff -- only measure with broad support.  I may be mixing and matching my "rules waivers" there though, so grain of salt.

Most of the time people complaining about the process just don't like the bill itself.

This is in re: to the 2 minutes/page rule...

“This must stop. There should never again be a, ‘pass it to find out what’s in it moment,’” Garrett continued, referring to an infamous 2010 quote from then-Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi about the Affordable Care Act, a.k.a. Obamacare. (Although the quote, a poorly phrased attempt to describe the benefits of Obamacare, was actually inaccurate if taken out of context, since the text of that legislation had been publicly available for months by the time of the actual vote.)
It's mostly grandstanding and politics.  And, I hope you're sitting down for this... both sides do it.

I have my doubts that she has ever read any legislation, but I wouldn't have a problem with the 2 minutes a page rule, and also a word limit for legislation.

Two of Rep. Lauren Boebert’s (R-Co.) neighbors had to call the police last week on her very problematic husband, Jayson, after he had a bit of a meltdown because they told his son to stop tearing down the residential street at 50mph in his dune buggy. The neighbors said Jayson Boebert, 41, ran over a mailbox with his truck, started threatening people, and appeared to be driving drunk, according to the 911 calls obtained by the Denver Post.

“I’m sure he’s loaded to the hilt. Do you know who his wife is? Lauren Boebert. She’s loaded. They all have guns,” one neighbor told the police. “He just got chest to chest, face to face, looking to fight.”

“There’s about to be some **** going down here,” a second neighbor told 911. “It’s Lauren Boebert’s jackass husband, Jayson Boebert.”

The second neighbor added that Jayson was “dumb as a post,” “probably drunk,” and should be arrested for a DUI, and at some point on the the call could be heard yelling directly at Jayson: “Stop, you jackass! Get the **** out of here. Come on, man. What are you doing? What did we do wrong?”

Police ultimately declined to charge or arrest anyone and let the neighbors work it out themselves, according to the Post. The block parties on that street must be super fun and wholesome.

Jayson Boebert, as you may call, previously served jail time for public indecency after after pleading guilty to having exposed his penis to two minors in a bowling alley. His wife, the congresswoman, defended him in her memoir (My American Life, released in July) by claiming her husband had only whipped his **** out in public because the teen girls had “begged” to see the tattoo on it. This, of course, would not explain why they then reported him and sent him to jail for the incident.

The Boeberts also made headlines recently because they were forced to close their gun-themed café, Shooters Grill in Rifle, Colorado (I cannot make this **** up), after the landlord declined to renew their lease. My deepest condolences to the Colorado voters who put this woman in office and now will have to get their Locked N’ Loaded Nachos elsewhere.

My wife loves CO. She went to UC and is a big Buff. She's been begging me to move there from FL. We did a state wide trip a few years ago. I admit, CO is cool. But with my luck I'd buy a house on this crazy *****'s street.

Wait. What? How is this guy not a convicted sex offender?

There's Colorado. It's lovely.

Then there's Grand Junction, Colorado.

It really is a fantastic sentence.

I only whipped out my penis because those teen girls begged to see the tattoo on it.

It starts out sleazy, gets trashy, and then gets worse. Amazing.

It only gets better when viewed from the angle of that being the wife of said person saying that. The very definition of classy.

"So do they call the gazpacho police if there is a wonton killing?" - From the replies
You know, I don’t like this woman, or MTG, or Herschel Walker, but I also feel sad and uncomfortable paying attention to this stuff. And a little cruel. Does anyone else feel that way?
Walker, possibly. I don't know enough about him. The other two know exactly what they're doing and destroying lives in the process.

Also, the problem with wonton attacks is an hour later you want to be attacked again.

You started a thread so you could tell everyone how stupid Walker is, but watching this is cruel?

No. Anyone running for public office knows they'll be ridiculed if they do ridiculous things. Boebert getting on stage talking about something she didn't understand (some Bible stuff in this instance) is her fault. MTG talks out of her rear end all the time.

Walker's case could be a reasonable exception if his brain just doesn't work correctly due to natural or football-related problems.

God that is a great line. My secretary thinks I'm losing my mind.

**** no. God. She's a nasty termagant who deserves nothing but scorn and ridicule for her pathetic vitriol and dim-witted spew. You think she deserves an ounce of compassion? I don't. People who say crap like this aren't worth your compassion.

A video of Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) effectively describing her colleague Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) as a terrorist went viral over Thanksgiving weekend. In the obviously false tale, she tells a story of being in an elevator with Omar when a Capitol police officer hurried to get in with them. “I look to my left, and there she is, Ilhan Omar,” Boebert quipped. “I said, ‘Well she doesn’t have a backpack, we should be fine.’”

Sometimes even old squirrels find a nut. ;)

Seriously though, thank you. What makes me the most happy in life is making other people laugh. :)

I was criticized for that thread, including by the owner of this site. But it wasn’t meant to be a “gotcha” thing, despite what people thought. I was concerned that Walker is not competent enough to be a Senator. I don’t believe Boebert and Greene are competent enough to be in Congress. But belaboring the point with stuff like “wontons” and “gazpacho” seems rather cruel.

Moar....

The sad, sorry fact is that there is no incentive to correct their behavior. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) who has also been the victim of excessive death threats, called for Boebert to face consequences for actions, such as losing her committee assignments. That’s what happened last month to Gosar after he tweeted an anime meme that depicted the Arizona congressman killing Ocasio-Cortez. But it’s unclear if any punishment would be sufficiently meaningful to force the Republicans to stop threatening their Democratic colleagues.

After videos surfaced of Greene harassing the surviving victims of the Parkland shooting, commenting about killing Democrats, and endorsing anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, she was removed from her committee assignments. McCarthy, assuming they will handily win reelection, has already said if the GOP wins back the House next year, Gosar and Greene will be able to serve on committees once again. But her removal only seems to have freed her up to do more terrible things. Now, instead of legislating (if anyone is even doing any of that) Greene spends her time trolling on Twitter; she most recently got into a spat with fellow Republican Nancy Mace (R-S.C.), who condemned Boebert’s comments about Omar. Greene referred to Mace as “trash” for supporting a rape exception in an anti-abortion bill. (Mace was raped as a teenager). McCarthy told CNN he had a simple message for Mace and Greene: “Stop it.” How could that not be persuasive?

Yeah, I'm not about to feel the slight bit bad about mocking this horrible human for as long as I suck in oxygen.

I agree she’s really an awful person.

These are the types of candidates strongly preferred by the leadership of the Republican Party and the majority of their base, and are therefore representative of today’s GOP. So, no.

FYI, Peter King - IMO the best NFL writer in the biz - agrees with you on Walker. He's not even remotely qualified to be a senator and King has made that point several times in his MMQB column this year. Next time somebody gives you gruff, point that out.

How would we feel about a mandatory IQ test for Congresspeople? Require a minimum IQ.

I'd support it with a minimum IQ of 130... Although that would disqualify about 70% of them.

I know some will disagree with me but I don't equate Walker with those other two. I think he's a decent guy for the most part, just not very smart.

Has definitely not served jail time for showing the tattoo on his penis to underage girls, so he's better than Boebert's husband anyhoo

I agree with the sentiment but IQ tests have been considered biased for some time.

How about every candidate has to pass the citizenship test, the first time, with a 90%+ score, to run for federal office? Spitballing here GB. :)

Meh, I'm not too worried about bias in IQ tests. Give them the Raven, it's not biased IMO.

Or give them the Defense Language Aptitude Battery... that test is bonkers and in no way can it be considered biased. The entire test, instructions included, are in a made up language.

95% at least. That would be a pretty high bar
I'm presuming the IQs in congress are higher than a random sample of regular citizens... but maybe my assumption is flawed. It's just, all those advanced degrees, some of them have to be 130+.

Isn't 130 a pretty high standard? Like 2 or 3 standard deviations above the mean? Nearly genius level? Given the proclivities of the current GOP, I think that requiring them to be smarter would just result in a faster descent into a Christian Nationalist dystopia. At least the current crop are dumb enough that most level-headed Americans can identify them as the opportunistic parasites that they are.

It's 2 standard deviations above the mean. Genius level is 4 standard deviations. I'd say it's basically around the bright AF to wicked smart range.
