The Lego Movie - MUST SEE (1 Viewer)

Andrew74 said:
Overall an okay movie. It was funny and enjoyable and a good time with 2 of my kids. Maybe it will grow more on me in a DVD viewing later. Not in the same class for me as some of the other kids' movies (e.g., Toy Story).
yeah, but toy story is rounding on 19 years old. I guess I think of kids movies more as pre and post son (7 year old now).

in the past 7 years I cant think of many other movies that have come out that I had as much fun watching with him - combo of him liking it and me as well. despicable me, kung fu panda, wreck it ralph come to mind.

Saw this over the weekend. My expectations were raised due to the thread title, but I did not open the thread. I was pretty disappointed. This is a prime example of a movie that would have been 100 times better had I not seen all of the commercials. Most of the best lines were revealed in the previews. There were a handful in the movie I hadn't seen before, but they weren't enough to enjoy throughout.
I feel for you. I saw it the first weekend, after having only seen a couple really short commercials (that I thought made it look bad) and no previews. I'm certain that I enjoyed it much more not knowing anything about it than I would have otherwise. I had no idea Batman would be in it so much or be that kind of character, for example.

I make it a general practice now to avoid previews whenever possible for this very reason.

Yep, I fully expected it to be lots of super heroes throughout, since every one liner in the previews were from the different super heroes, and one from the main character. Lame.

I went with my wife, our two boys (12 and 10) and a friend with her three boys (10, 8, 4). When Batman does the "Bruce Wayne? Who's that? Sounds like a real cool dude" the 4 year old actually said the line right along with him. Tells you how much the previews are running during the kid shows on TV.

Saw it. I liked Frozen better
That movie stunk.
How so?
a retread of damn near every other Disney movie?
Have you seen it? I don't think you have.
bits and pieces. illegally aquired it and was doing stuff around house while wife and son watched. I could be wrong, but it didn't seem to break from the princess+tag along+annoying songs formula they have run into the ground. planned to sit and watch it later though.

It's actually a story about the love between two sisters and not a prince and princess. The rest is pretty "Disney" but I wasn't expecting A Clockwork Orange when I went in there. Watching it with my two little daughters might have added to my experience.

Kids liked it a lot. I did as well. I wouldn't put it above Shrek, Toy Story, or Despicable Me in terms of adult humor, but definitely good enough to hold my interest and they nailed the ending.

And we sang Everything Is Awesome all weekend.
Imagining this in Jack Nicholson's voice is cracking me up.

I don't get people not loving this movie. Finally watched it today with my 7yo son. He seemed to like it, but I am sure I was laughing more than he was. More than it being funny, I found it to be one of the more original and smartest kids movie I have seen in a while. From the start, I had a big smile on my face, and will admit that it almost got dusty in the room. Seeing dreck like Free Birds, Planes, and The Nut Job I am sure helped vault this one higher as well. I honestly can't think of a kids movie that hit all the bases and kept me interested all the way through in the last several years more than this one. Is it the best movie ever? No. But I would say it's as 'can't miss' as a kids movie can get.
Yes, yes, yes.

Yes, yes, yes.
I liked it but I think this is an adult movie designed to get parents to take their kids to the theater and not a kids movie that has elements that adults will like. Because of that, as kids movies go, I have to just give it an average rating.

Was perfect for my nephew who is 10. He was just dying over the double-couch and Batman saying what a cool guy Bruce Wayne was.

But don't think this is great for any kid under around 9.

Wish I didn't get sucked into watching it in 3D. Per usual made everything look so dark. Screen didn't pop. Watch it in 2d.

I get what you are saying. No way my 7yo 'got' everything that was going on and all the jokes/themes, (he seemed a tad confused by the last 10 mins, so we talked a little about that) but he still had a blast and for the first time said he would want to see a movie we saw in the theater again - wondered aloud if his mom would want to see it with him.

For me the great kids movies are something for every age and something that the kids can grow with. This is a perfect movie to buy for the house, as it will reward repeat viewings and the younger kids will grow into some of the themes. Maybe I am jumping the gun a little bit here, but there are movies I can see watching with him in 4-5 years still - most of the Pixar movies for example, and I can see this one being one of them as well. I can already tell some of the movies that being left being that were good for a couple viewings and even he has had enough of them.

My 4 year old loved it but he's pretty freakin' brilliant. I can see how some of the glue sniffers might not get the whole thing.

And trust me, Shuke knows what every kid is talking about! :grad:

Member at Legoland so we'll be going to this

Based on the popularity of the movie, this event is going to be packed
Yeah, so this thing was impossible. I happened to be in the area in the morning and by opening time the line to get into Legoland was backed up so far the exits on I-5 were clogged. We're talking a good 2 or 3 mile line. We said forget it.

With what some of you have been saying about getting into a theater plus what I saw, the buzz on this movie has gone off the charts. It wasn't like this on opening weekend.

Saw it with my nephew tonight. We both loved it. He was giggling regularly throughout the movie but I laughed way more than he did. Extremely well done, big thanks to this thread for encouraging me to go see it.

Saw it with my 7yr old son on Saturday.

We loved it. Best kids movie since Wreck-It Ralph.

ETA - I thought Frozen was weak and was more bored with it than the Tinkerbell movies.

Daughter (15) and I went this weekend and loved it. Not sure I would call it a must-see in the theater, but it's very good.

My boys are still talking about it 3 weeks later. They even yell SPACESHIP! when they see the retro Lego.

To me, a successful kid movie is one where the kids really like it, and there's enough there for the adults to enjoy, as well. The Lego Movie is about as good as any kids movie you'll ever see. Anyone that doesn't like The Lego Movie should be forced to watch the Veggie Tales movie for an example of a bad kid movie.

I'm X'ing you're calling Veggie Tales a bad kid movie. They're awesome and funny.

Ok. Shrek, then.

went with the wife and kids (3 boys, 9, 7 and 4) this weekend and I don't think any of us liked this movie near as much as Wreck It Ralph, Despicable Me, etc. It got a couple laughs total out of my kids and maybe one from me. My two older boys both said they didn't like the part with the humans.

I have no idea why anyone would cry over this movie.....

5/10 as far as kids movies go

If by "phenomenal" you mean pedestrian and pandering, then I agree.

No shtick.

Most movies my kids go to, the 4 yo laughs his ### off to the point where others in the theatre are getting a kick out of him. he didn't make a peep this time.

can someone give me 4-5 lines in this movie that they laughed out loud at?

the whole movie seemed like something I could have written. I can't think of another Disney movie my kids liked less. all of the Toy Stories, Shreks, Dispecabe Me's, Wreck It Ralph, Cars, Planes, etc. Hell, they even liked Phrozen better.

not sure I was exactly rolling on the floor, but from start to finish I had a huge grin on my face from the references and nostalgia. did laugh a bit too, but cant remember specific lines now. I do know that anything in this movie >>>> Mater body fluid jokes or anything in Planes.

also, isn't the fact that it felt like it was written by a kid the point of the movie???

I understand that everyone has different tastes, so I'm not surprised that some liked it and some loved it.

Put me and my family in the loved it category. Saw it last Friday in 3-D and we all were in stitches laughing so hard. I will say that I think my GF and I enjoyed it more than our daughter and her friend. Not that they didn't love it, but my GF and I were laughing so hard at parts we had tears in our eyes. Can't wait to watch it over and over once it comes on cable.

As for crying, I teared up at the end. No crying, but it was very touching. Wreck it Ralph is by far my favorite "cartoon" movie, but this was up there. As a comparison, in WIR I not only cry, I can actually whimper when he starts destroying her car and saying it's for her own good. Every time. And I've probably seen that movie close to 50 times.

1. SPACESHIP!!!

2. I only work in black...or very, very, very dark shades of gray.

3. They totally expected that!!

There's three.

too much singing,, overrated movie

lego is much better

Saw it this weekend and I enjoyed it.

I didn't think it quite lived up to the hype from threads such as this one, and from friends, but it was still very good.

As far as top-notch "kids' movies" go, I didn't think it was as good as the Toy Stories, Ratatouille, The Incredibles, The Fantastic Mr Fox, original Shrek, Despicable Me, Up, and some others.

Actually, I liked it about on par with Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, the filmmakers' other animated movie. That was also very well done, imo.

one of my favorite Mater lines was from the first Cars where Lightning comes out of Doc's garage and tells everyone 'Doc won a Piston Cup'. Mater does a spit-take and says 'he did what in his cup?'. now that's funny.

Yeah, there wasn't much potty humor in the LEGO Movie.

If you played with LEGOS as a kid, or you play with LEGOs with your kids, this movie is funny.

Otherwise, you may not know what words mean.
