The Lego Movie - MUST SEE (1 Viewer)

Will my girls (5.5 and 3.75 years old) be able to enjoy it / follow it?

I keep hearing how most of the jokes are for adults and will be over their heads.
Kids movies are doing this, with lots of adult jokes. I think of it as a way to keep the people paying interested. This movie has tons of both. I went on Friday with one of my boys (10) and we loved it. My 11 y.o. went yesterday and loved it too. We have some cheap tix for a theater and they jumped at the chance to go again so their mom and sister could see it.

We got to see it in one of those theaters with the seats that move. (When the scree pans up, you tilt back and such. And when there is gunfire and explosions the seat rattles.) That was fun for this type of movie!
I have a 5 yo and it seems like the jokes are meant for older kids. She's also not into action movies so that's a double whammy. Maybe I'll take my 14 yo nephew instead.

There are a lot of jokes that are aimed at adults, but there is enough slapstick cartoonish stuff to keep the 5 year old type kids thoroughly entertained.

Kids loved it.

I thought it was pretty good - got better the last 30 mins. One of those movies that I'm sure gets better the more you watch it. A lot of fast jokes you miss.

I didn't like that it was filmed with a low key lighting style. Looks dark throughout.

I didn't notice that at all. You might want to inquire with the theater manager if they're changing bulbs on schedule.

Saw it in X 3D yesterday with my 7 yo son. We both LOVED it. Great movie. Best animated movie I can remember. But I was a complete lego nerd as a kid. My son ran home and started building giant lego things the minute he got home.

All four of my kids are into Legos and my two boys just finished the Death Star (I helped out a bit). Needless to say my kids can not wait to see it and have been quoting the commercials since they saw the previews a while back.

My 5 year old liked it 7 year old didnt. Jokes were over their heads. They are both lego addicts. I'm thinking a ninjago full length would be their dream movie.

At any rate I thought it was funny as hell. Will arnett as batman deserves the best comedic actor award. I want to see it again. Feel like I missed a ton of jokes they were so rapid fire.

I watched the trailer on youtube and still see it. I guess I'm too sensitive to it but it bothers me in a fun kids movie. Ever see Robots? Similar issue, too many dark scenes and shadows.

Saw it. Enjoyed it. Once or twice a year everyone goes ape #### over an animated movie. It's The Lego Movie's turn now. It's good but nothing too extraordinary.

Agree. It's 93%/96% on rotten tomatoes. Feels like it should be ~83%
I don't know what you guys are looking for, because this movie is fantastic.

An animated Lego is fantastic?? OK whatever.

You might want to inquire with your eye doctor if you're going blind.

(only half shtick - I developed cataracts in my 40s and getting them removed made an incredible difference)

Going to see it tomorrow with my 13 yo son and 9 yo daughter. Wife and oldest daughter are heading south for a soccer tournament, so it's this 42 yo man with two kids seeing a movie on Valentine's.

Nope...nothing creepy about that.

that's good fathering right there! taking my 2 (9 and almost 12) this weekend. In fact, hadn't planned on it tomorrow, but might just copycat your idea!

I posted in the movie thread. . To me this movie was perfect for the genre. Absolute 5 out of 5 for me. And the end was very much a Field of Dreams wanna have a catch type ending.

This will be a purchase to have in the house que when it comes out.
I cried at the ending. :bag:

Fantastic movie

thought i was the only one
over what? seriously I don't know what you would cry over
father/son bonding moments always turn me into mush

Loved it. Before this thread I had low expectations, but this is one of the better kids movies made since I've had kids - 11 years now.

Member at Legoland so we'll be going to this

Based on the popularity of the movie, this event is going to be packed
How good is the park? Compared to Disney or other similar family destinations.

Looking to plan our vacation. We'll probably do the usual, beach for a week; but we could be convinced otherwise. We did Disney a few years ago, we'll go back in another couple years.

As you might expect it's not on the scale of Disneyland. There's a decent amount of rides, a good waterpark, lots of large scale Lego exhibits, and even a Lego factory with people building large models. The food is just OK. Most people really enjoy it. They have a Legoland hotel onsite now.

I think most people do it in 1 day. It's not so big that you need 2 days.

Pretty good movie. Liked batman and the superman and green Lantern interactions. I super hate you. However crying during this whilst being a man?I don't get that. Go hit your thumb with a hammer, a man should cry about that more than this movie. And finding Nemo is still the gold standard for kids movies last 11 years. That one might bring a wet eye at the beginning.

I liked it the daughter loved it. I didn't think it was as "great" as other kids movies I've seen as I think they tried a bit too hard with the adult humor.

Still a very good movie

Took my son to see it today. Fantastic movie. Chance was a huge LEGO fan and we used to do it together. I took he and his brother to the LEGO exhibit in Times Square the summer before he passed and it was Chance's favorite part of our New York trip. So obviously I was a wreck at the end of this film (and am a wreck as I type this). Going to take my son to Target now to buy a LEGO set for us to do together.

Again, great movie. Very funny, extremely clever, and heartwarming conclusion.

Some men are moved by heartwarming scenes involving fathers and sons. Because they are sons and may be fathers of sons. And because the relationship between a father and son can be special beyond explanation. Being a "man" in the manner you've described really has little to do with it.
