Every year recievers come from nowhere to become top 20 players. Usually this is the time (1st 2-3 weeks) to identify the ones that weren't picked yet. These are my deep sleepers (most 3rd year WRs) that are likely sitting on your waiver wire.
The quick question is this, I have Peerless Price and Travis Taylor (very deep league-7-8 WRs on rosters). Should I look to pick up Jerricho Cotchery, Marquis Colston, Drew Carter or Reggie Williams over these two.
Now except for Marquis Colston, the rookie reciever who Brees called his "Go-to" guy yesterday, the rest are all 3rd year WRs which usually promises value if you pick the right one. Im sure everyone knows the 3rd year bloom theory for WRs.
I believe Cotchery is going to get the most opportunities of the bunch and single coverage, meaning he is likely going to be the "guy who came from nowhere" this year. He was top 10 in targets last week. I imagine that will stay consistent even if they are losing.
But Colston is a physical freak and as an unknown quantity could possibly put up some fast TDs if Brees develops an early trust/chemistry with him in NO. In a win Colston had 6 targets (could be 5 - I'm just writing from my memory). Seems to me that will probably go up if they are losing.
Drew Carter is an Unrestricted Free Agent this year and I'm guessing he will want to take advantage right now of any time missed by Steve Smith. The Offensive Line situation in Carolina is scaring me from this pickup though, plus when SS does come back, Carter won't receive half the targets he's enjoying now. He may be a good 2-3 week fill though.
Reggie Williams could be good too, but I already have Earnest Wilford and Matt Jones from the Jags. I'd hate to waste 3 slots on the Jags passing offense.
Well, these are some of my super deep sleepers - now which two are the best of the bunch?
Peace -
