The Nancy Pelosi thread (2 Viewers)

That is how Squis operates.  Seen it for years. Gets in, posts a tweet to get a rise out of people then gets out.

I posted the news that she is seeking reelection. If you say the purpose of that was trying to get a rise out of people, I would disagree, as that type of news shouldn't trigger people.

Except I started the topic discussion in a thread that had been dormant and had not been posted in for over a year. What derailed was the false comment about her age).

You know she will be 82 in March, right?  How old did you think she was?

Beijing Nancy: Pelosi Shifted Her China Stance as Her Family Scored Beijing Deals

Matthew Boyle26 Jan 2022

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi softened her previous criticisms of China’s communist regime as her husband and son scored big business deals in China, Breitbart News senior contributor Peter Schweizer’s new book reveals.

The bombshell revelations about Pelosi in Red-Handed: How American Elites Get Rich Helping China Win also come as the Democrat stalwart is under fire for stock trading returns made by her and her husband that regularly outperform the market. Now, it appears as though her family’s business opportunities in China have influenced her policy views on America’s chief adversary, something sure to fuel the fire to rein in corruption in Congress.

Pelosi’s family, Schweizer reveals, has had millions of dollars on the line when it comes to China, and the Speaker seems to have altered her positions on China’s communist regime from a policy perspective as these investments grew and took shape.

Pelosi began her career as tough on China and still occasionally rips the Chinese Communist Party for human rights abuses.

“The longtime member of Congress and Speaker of the House was, early in her career, a particularly harsh critic of China’s human rights practices,” Schweizer writes. “She continues to be vocal about some issues, but her positions have softened as her family has sought and received lucrative commercial opportunities in mainland China.”

In the early 1990s, Schweizer recounts how she even pulled off a protest in Tiananmen Square that infuriated Chinese officials:

In 1991, as a junior member of Congress, Pelosi found herself in Tiananmen Square. She was part of a congressional delegation visiting Beijing barely two years after the horrific events had un- folded. Pelosi had been in meetings with Chinese officials, but with a couple of colleagues, she covertly carried a banner into the middle of the square and unfurled it in front of a small crowd and the media. “To those who died for Democracy in China,” it read. The Chinese police were furious. They pushed through the crowd to seize the banner. “I started running,” Pelosi recalled. “And my colleagues, some of them, got a little roughed up. The press got treated worse because they had cameras, and they were detained.” The Foreign Ministry denounced the event as a “premeditated farce.

This move was not an isolated incident; Pelosi actually was tough on China for years.

Schweizer also recounts how Pelosi fought against giving China most-favored-nation trade status and against allowing China entry into the World Trade Organization. He also noted that in 2005, Pelosi spoke on the House floor in support of  an amendment to block the Chinese National Overseas Oil Company (CNOOC), a Chinese government-backed entity, from purchasing Unocal, a California-based oil company.

But, Schweizer writes, Pelosi’s “views began to moderate.” A March 2009 Politico story quotes people close to Pelosi noticing a “subtle shift” in her approach to China. Then-Politico reporter reporter Glenn Thrush wrote that while Pelosi “won’t back down on her core commitment to democratization in the country,” according to people close to her “she’s also not looking to pick new fights with China’s leaders— or with the Obama Administration as it seeks to strengthen U.S.- China relations.”

The Wall Street Journal reported two months after that Politico story in May 2009 that Pelosi told the U.S.-China Clean Energy Forum in Beijing that the reason for her “shift” on China was, as Schweizer writes, “a result, in part, of issues like climate change that the two countries needed to tackle together.”

“I think this climate crisis is game changing for the U.S.-China relationship,” Pelosi said at the event. “It is an opportunity we cannot miss.”

While the “climate crisis” is Pelosi’s stated reason for softening on China, Schweizer argues in Red-Handed that “there were perhaps other factors at work,” noting that Pelosi’s “husband and son started seeking and securing deals on mainland China.”

S. House speaker Pelosi's stock trades attract growing following online

Noel RandewichJanuary 26, 20221:26 AM ESTLast Updated 21 hours ago

Jan 26 (Reuters) - A year since a Reddit-driven retail trading frenzy rocked the markets and created the 'meme stock' phenomenon, leading U.S. lawmaker Nancy Pelosi's investments have become a meme in their own right.

Google searches for 'Pelosi stock trades' hit a record high earlier this month as users on social media platforms including Twitter, Reddit, Youtube and TikTok scrutinize her investments, believing the U.S. Speaker of the House may have an edge on Wall Street.

Discussion of Pelosi's trades is a recurring theme on social media including 'wallstreetbets', the Reddit forum where retail investors banded together a year ago to coordinate frenzied buying of video games retailer GameStop (GME.N)and other companies, which eventually became known as meme stocks.

Trade disclosures filed by Pelosi, a multi-millionaire, are shared widely across social media soon after they appear on the House website. Companies she disclosed trades in last year include Apple (AAPL.O), Amazon , Tesla (TSLA.O)and Microsoft (MSFT.O).

Like other Congressional lawmakers, Pelosi is legally required to file disclosures of her stock trades. Her reports have garnered growing attention amid a massive uptick in retail trading - as well as recent calls to ban lawmakers from trading at all, a debate Pelosi has been pulled into in recent weeks.

On Monday, 27 House members signed a letter calling for a floor vote on recent proposals to prohibit Congress members from owning stocks "in light of recent misconduct."

That was the latest push to ban stock trading by lawmakers after Pelosi in December defended their rights to trade. In a reversal, Pelosi last week signaled her willingness to potentially advance legislation that could ban stock trading by lawmakers. read more

Last year, Pelosi filed transaction reports showing her husband, financier Paul Pelosi, made trades valued at as much as $5 million at a time in 'Big Tech' companies now facing an antitrust bill in Congress. Those companies are also among the most widely held across Wall Street, making investing in them relatively common.

A 2012 law makes it illegal for lawmakers to use information from their work in Congress for their personal gain. The law requires them to disclose stock transactions by themselves or family members within 45 days.

Transaction reports are typically filed days after the actual purchases and sales, making it potentially difficult for traders aiming to mimic lawmakers' specific trades.

"It's nonsense, it's very hard to replicate what other people are doing and gain some edge," said Sahak Manuelian, Managing Director of Trading at Wedbush Securities in Los Angeles.

That has not stopped users on TikTok from focusing on her disclosures, with one video clip about her husband's recent options purchases in companies including Alphabet (GOOGL.O), Micron Technology (MU.O) and Roblox (RBLX.N) earning 45,000 likes.

AllianceBernstein Holding (AB.N)

Still, a recent analysis by Unusual Whales, a service selling financial data, concluded that Congressional lawmakers last year traded $290 million in stocks, options, cryptocurrency and other assets, and that they outperformed the market, on average.

Pelosi's performance ranked sixth-best in 2021, with Republican Congressman Austin Scott leading the way, according to the analysis.

The Justice Department ended investigations of stock trades by at least three senators ahead of the 2020 market slump, caused by the coronavirus pandemic, without filing charges. read more

Attempting to derail the topic is low value posting. It encourages Conservative and Republican subscribers to cancel their subscriptions and leave the platform entirely.

None of your patterned attacks against Conservatives here changes the reality that all anyone has to do is "Follow The Money"

Pelosi is getting hammered in all directions over her influence in driving money towards her husband and son. This is a strategy by the leftist camps that support Stacey Abrams for 2024 POTUS to neutralize Pelosi's power base so it can neutralize Gavin Newsom by proxy.

Fun Fact: 82 is not considered mid-80s as you suggested she is, not when she finishes her term.

Nancy Pelosi and her husband are in the age range where they are far far far far far from being considered anywhere near being "digital natives"  That means it wouldn't take much digging to show violations of the STOCK Act.

But it is not mid-80s like you said. You always exaggerate age for those you don't like and it is not accidental IMO because it happens too often.

After a Pelosi staffer left to lobby on behalf of credit-card giant Visa, Pelosi delayed bringing to the House floor a bill to end lucrative "swipe fees" for Visa and other credit providers...The bill couldn't have come at a worse time for Visa. It planned to launch an $18 billion public stock offering, so stalling Hill action became a priority. The San Francisco-based company curried favor with Pelosi by pumping cash into her re-election efforts, earning its CEO a rare one-on-one meeting with the speaker...At the same time, Visa offered her husband a VIP cut of the IPO. Paul Pelosi jumped at the offer, buying 5,000 shares at the $44 initial price. In a couple of days, the shares soared to $64. Pelosi later bought 15,000 more, raising the total value of his investment to about $5 million. In the end, the legislation Visa fought starting in 2007 was forestalled two full years.

...The former speaker and her husband have participated in at least eight IPOs, one of which was from Visa in 2008 - just as a troublesome piece of legislation that would have hurt credit card companies began making its way through the House. The Pelosis purchased 5,000 shares of Visa at the initial price of $44 dollars. Two days later it was trading at $64....In 2007, Visa used an army of lobbyists to try to influence Pelosi, including one of her former advisers, Dean Aguillen.... Aguillen left Pelosi's office to work for the lobbying firm Ogilvy. By law, he could not lobby Pelosi's office directly, but he did lobby Congress on the credit card issue and offered advice to other lobbyists on that particular mission.... Visa's political action committee made a $1,000 donation to Pelosi's re-election campaign... (Visa headquarters is in Pelosi's home district). Two days after that donation was made, Pelosi met with Visa executives in her office. Aguillen also contributed $1,000 to Pelosi and another $1,000 to the campaign arm of the House Democratic caucus in the first half of 2008....

S1393 is being pushed hard by POTUS contender Elizabeth Warren, who has focused most of her legislative push for all Americans with MORE than 50 million in total assets. This is because it shields Warren and her husband's own fortune ( Worth about 20 million or so)  Nothing is more hilarious than a faux populist screaming Progressive reform while protecting her own nest egg.

Of course HR6461 never got traction but it should have, since it would mean the Party apparatus would have had to admit that Tulsi Gabbard had a point and should be listened to, since the DNC eliminated her out of the debate cycle for running roughshod over the chosen one in Kamala Harris. And how did that turn out?

Of course real substantive high value political discussion is not what you are aiming for here. I took your trash and converted it into high value political discussion with a pathway for even more complex political discourse. But most Conservatives and Republicans passing through aren't going to do that. They are going to simply recognize the clear consistent pattern of attack against Conservative viewpoints and refuse to purchase a FBG subscription. And if they have one right now, you've given them every incentive to cancel it.

If you want to silence people, the most effective and brutal way is by raising the level of discussion and bringing value to the community as a lagging indicator of that behavior. But that would require actual effort.

I silence people all the time. But done the right way. The problem isn't your motive, the problem is you are cheap and lazy about it.

You did it again. 82 (which she isn't yet) is not mid-80s ant that isn't semantics.

There is a clear long standing disturbing pattern of behavior by Nancy Pelosi to work in tandem with her husband to drive specific public policy and to use that information to enrich her families financial coffers.

It should also disturb everyone here that Congressional 2012 insider trading bill was informally named the "Pelosi Provision" Even Democrats referred to it as that off book. When your own Party acknowledges you are the shining example of financial political corruption, then what does that say about you?

Pelosi burns out tax dollars on a light rail, while you derail. She's making money for her husband, you are costing money for FBG as a business and a brand.

You aren't even making any attempt at actual political discussion. It's just baiting Conservatives to see if you can trigger them to get them to react so you can try to get them banned.

At this point, there is no choice. I don't want to hear anyone say "Well people should use the Report Button"

Toleration of your behavior means open patterned attacks against Conservatives is acceptable. You operate in bad faith. All Conservatives and Republicans here at FBG should immediately cancel their FBG subscriptions. That appears to be the only way to make a difference here. It pains me to say that as a long standing member of this community, but you clearly have no other desire but to poison the pool for everyone.

I think the age thing is huge in American politics. It’s unavoidable in both parties. The longer you are in DC the more power and mo ey you acquire
Yeah - thankfully I didn’t have to read most of that back and forth but completely agree here.  It’s possible a 80 year old who is new to politics could do a good job but in reality most of these geriatrics are 20-50 years in and in most cases padding their bank accounts and getting very little done.  Term limits.

Yes. Completely. If you are 42, are you are in your early 40s or in your mid 40s? If you tell someone who is 42 that they are in their mid-40s they were probably correct you that they are in their early 40s.

Pelosi drives public policy that her husband and son enrich themselves off of with stocks and board seats and investment deals. Her daughter tries to sell grifter training on "how to play the politics game" for personal profit in a bizarre Tom Vu infomercial type rant. All while holding stimulus from the American people because Trump's name would have been on the check and weighing out that public perception of that while eating 13 dollar a pint ice cream sitting in her custom freezers.

The Democratic Party uses Joint Finance Agreements for their campaign dollars. That's basically a money laundering scheme for what amounts to controlling non brand name Democrats down the ticket like a bizarre woke brutalized feudal system. And apparently to Pelosi, the average American is a peon to serve her juggernaut sized ego.

She's supposed to work for the American people, not the other way around. And of course Joe Rogan faces constant pressure from wokies to try to get him cancelled because of his massive platform and his willingness to call out this idiotic happy horse #### behavior from politicians like Pelosi.

Alexandra Pelosi is at least trying to monetize her zealotry. What exactly do you get out of it?

Pelosi says the Founders would have tears in their eyes about the Democratic Party's current platform not being passed in Congress.

But the Founders existed because of unfair taxation without representation. So what would the Founders say about Pelosi pushing for legislation to allow her to keep her corporate cronies well stocked in ways to avoid paying taxes and that her quid pro quo relationship with the Hambrechts, major political donors to her and her fellow Party cohorts, would allow those special interests to have sway in how actual federal tax policy is shaped and created.

The Founders never intended to have someone like Pelosi backdoor her husband's investments so he he operates like he can read the future and get complete leverage to generate truck loads of money off political kickbacks.

Let me guess. You have nothing. Go on, troll some more about someone's age or anything else you can do to avoid "Following The Money"

During an interview years and years ago, someone asked Michael Jordan why he never took any of his political stances public, he famously said - Republicans buy shoes too.

Without Conservative and Republican subscribers, there is no platform here. Not for them and not for you. Something to think about as you drive away business with your behavior.

I posted the news that she is seeking reelection. If you say the purpose of that was trying to get a rise out of people, I would disagree, as that type of news shouldn't trigger people.

A growing number of first responders in the U.S. are willing to lose their jobs by not complying with COVID-19 vaccine mandates. They won't get the shot, even though COVID-19 is now the leading cause of death for officers.

Massive mistake for Pelosi in terms of Newsom for POTUS 2024. Her legacy is aligned with Newsom's in every direction. Pelosi cited first responders losing their jobs and their sacrifice during the pandemic pre vaccine. Then the mandates came out which she supported. Which put first responders who served during the worst parts of 2020 at risk of losing their jobs for medical privacy issues she said she would defend for the HOR. You can't use them as a talking point to hold back checks then smile as they risk losing their careers after they took great risks for the overall public good.

Every position taken shows there are rules ( that don't exist) for Pelosi and her political cronies and then there are the rules for the average American citizen, whom Pelosi was happy to see stay in food lines while she sharpened her tribalist spear.

The type of news that should "trigger people" will be the kind that shows elitist smug tone deaf politicians using their office as a personal piggy bank and ignoring their duty and obligation to the American people.

But you are just here to "trigger" Conservatives. And will do so as you drive subscribers away from the site.

Thanks!   Never saw the Blitzer-Pelosi interview before.

Wolf took Nancy to the woodshed, she sure does not seem very sharp in that interview.  Pelosi seemed very surprised that Wolf called her out like he did, Nancy looked shocked as well with all her back pedaling.

Off topic but what is wrong with her mouth?

Years of talking out of both sides of it...

Way to insult the Chinese govt in your statement telling athletes not to insult the Chinese govt.

On the eve of the opening of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made a direct warning to American athletes: do not use these Games as a venue for protest.

“I would say to our athletes, ‘You’re there to compete. Do not risk incurring the anger of the Chinese government, because they are ruthless,’”

She is simply an idiot.

Nancy Pelosi @TeamPelosi 4h

In our first year, President Biden and Democratic majorities delivered the strongest U.S. economic growth since 1984. We must keep building back better to make more progress in people’s lives so that all can reach their fulfillment.

Here are some Fun Facts!

467,000 jobs in January ◦

6.6 million jobs since Joe Biden took office ◦

Greatest 12 months of job creation in history ◦

The largest drop in the unemployment rate on record

The strongest economic growth in nearly 40 years

Squis?  You did not respond in the Biden thread

That is great!

Just heard on CNN it is mostly driven the by hospitality/service industry employees, hotels, bars. movie theatres and restaurant employees all being fully open now and getting back to work after COVID layoffs and unemployment benefits expiring.

I have not heard him talk much about creating jobs.  What other jobs or industries has Biden created that the jobs came from in this report?

What sector is the % of new good paying job creation coming from?  Googled it but could not find much.

TIA

Not sure what you find so amusing.

And I see you joined last Friday and have done a grand total of 9 posts, but none in The Shark Pool or FFA, as you have posted in this forum exclusively. Always amazed how people who come to this Fantasy Football site have little interest in actually discussing FF but want to talk politics instead.

I tried to look but can you let us all know when your last post in the Shark Pool was?

That Biden created six million jobs.  Those jobs were going to come back anyway, didn't matter who was in office.

And so what about how I got here.  Google can get you anywhere as there is no reason to talk fantasy football since the season is, you know, over.

It isn't in Dynasty Leagues. I talk it all the time on Twitter (and the Shark Pool is still pretty active despite the season being, you know, over.)

Term limits.
Are a really bad idea, especially with regard to Pelosi,

Say what you want about her, Nancy Pelosi has been the single most effective Soeaker of the House in American history. As good as Sam Rayburn and Tip O Neil were, they can’t match her accomplishments.
You don’t get to be that effective without a long time in Congress. All term limits would accomplish is to promote mediocrity and incompetence. Excellence in politics usually requires longevity.

Saw an article thatNancy spent 500k plus on private jet services in last year and made 30.0m in stock trades.  Not a bad gig.

First of all, who listens to Nancy Pelosi?  And second, she is weak sauce.
