The New York Times Crossword (1 Viewer)

Anybody else tackle this daily like I do? I pay $40 a year for online access to this considering I don't subscribe to the Times. Money well spent imo, I enjoy it and I feel like it helps the aging brain of mine. I think you can play it for free on other places online if you don't mind seeing the puzzles a week later than they are published. Monday is the easiest day and it gets progressively harder through Saturday. I have only completed a Saturday puzzle on two occasions. The Sunday puzzle is just a larger puzzle with a difficulty of about a Wednesday puzzle.

I hate it when two proper names cross each other!

I have this book, I can do the "Monday" and "Tuesday" puzzles. I can't finish the Wednesday without help.

Once and a while my GF and I will get the book out and try a Wednesday or Thursday with mixed results.

I recently started to do some on another app; they are the Dell based ones, so they are a bit easier, but it's nice to do when I'm falling asleep. Although I sometimes do them for a while and realize I am up later than I wanted to be!!

Fun and good for the brain.

I've done the Sunday NYT crossword to completion every week for about 15 years. I prefer pen on paper but if we're on vacation and I can't get the Sunday Times, I'll do the crossword on the iPad app.

I can finish Friday puzzles if I keep picking at it, but I've completed Saturday only a handful of times.

I think it's the best thing about the NYT! I can't finish all the Saturday (Friday too) puzzles, but I save them and come back later.  A fresh look helps me a lot of the time.

I used to do it pretty religiously.  I had the app on the IPad.   Eventually the app subscription became less good of a deal and I kind of fell out of it.

I was fairly consistent through Thursdays.  Fridays and especially Saturdays were real challenges.  I did get better as I did them more often and learned some of the repeat clues they use to fill in some of the tough spots.   I was still amazed at the times some people could achieve on the app.  I'd feel pretty good about doing a Tuesday puzzle in 12 minutes and some guy did it in under 2.

I feel the same with a sudoku app I play (called Enjoy Sudoku). I'll finish in what I think is a decent amount of time and it congratulates me for being faster that 20% of people who played that puzzle.  :(

Very cool themed Thursday crossword today. Perfect symmetry in the grid, and the clues are interesting and creative.

Took me a lot longer than my average Thursday time, but an enjoyable solve. Check it out next Thursday in syndication if you don't get the NYT.
