The Next 100 best movies from the 80's (1 Viewer)

52Caddyshackshuke - #17
I dont have time to keep up with the thread, but can we talk about this?

:penalty:

How is Caddyshack not on everyone's list? Sure, the Oscar 101 crew dont like true blue 'merican movies, but only Shuke even had it on his list? We have been through what, 5 top 100 lists of movies of the 80s and only 1 person has it in their top 100?

Unfnbelievable

I was 3 years old when this came out. Not exactly the target demographic. I did of course see it later in life and I liked it (it's in my "next 100") but it doesn't resonate as much as other 80s comedies do. Ghostbusters has obvious appeal to kids. Porky's has teets. Fast Times is about young people, etc and also has teets. Caddyshack is about... golf.
Good points

I actually didnt know Caddyshack is older than Fast Times. Regardless, Caddyshack is a must watch, must quote, must meme, comedy gold. I don't buy the 2 years difference is all that applicable in the long run.

Judge Smails is an all timer. Chevy is ok. Dangerfield is pretty good but not my thing. It’s not my favorite Murray. The caddy stuff is awful. It’s got funny bits but is kind of a mess- would probably be in my top 125 though- I still like it.

Caddyshack has teets as well.

I mean this is way funnier than a Baby Ruth in a swimming pool

Speaking of, I forgot that the actress who played Maggie (Sarah Holcomb) was also the mayor’s underage daughter in Animal House.

And apparently Caddyshack was her last movie (according to IMDB)

29 (tie). Friday the 13th part 2
Scoresman - #8

Pretty good slasher flick. I love how these original theatrical trailers basically showed you how everyone was going to die. :lmao:

It also features the first pair of boobs I ever saw.
Part five for me!
I am really surprised at all the love for the sequels in this franchise. I thought it eventually became more of a joke of itself and overboard on the bad guy that won't die. I thought the original was really well done for the time and the story was great. The twist with the mom being the killer and then the jump scare at the end leaving you wondering. Just a great story and movie for it's time.

To be fair, I don't remember part 2 at all so maybe I need to watch it again and I don't think I have ever seen 4 or beyond because at that point they just seemed too repetitive and overdone for me.

I also thought the original
Nightmare on Elm Street
was very well done for its time as well. The story very inventive. Then it became a comedy of itself either. (I put the spoiler tag because I don't think it has been mentioned yet).

My main issue with Part 1 is how is the mom physically capable of doing all the things she did with the victims? She's not going to be able to string a body over a tree branch for example.

That's why Part 2 is my favorite. Jason is still somewhat human. He is not some immortal zombie killing machine yet. It makes it way scarier for me.
Especially when all the "stunt" hands of the killer's POV's were clearly men's. That's what I thought was funny with their red herring.

Seinfeld later proved this was a thing though.

 Very fair. I need a close up of Mrs. Vorhees' hands now.

About as far away as you can get for an "80's movie", but I loved it, despite the presence of Cary Elwes. Wasn't a huge fan of Broderick in this either initiatlly, but over multiple viewings I've come to appreciate what he did with the role. But Denzel, Morgan, Braugher, and Jihmi Kennedy steal the show here. One of my favorite original scores ever.

Also, the campfire scene on the night before the final battle is one of a handful of movie scenes that can make me cry.

Great movie!! It was almost the second drama to make my list. Somewhere in the 60s for me.

another on the "better make it" list. Probably in my top 50 overall.

More Oliver Stone goodness. Probably in my top 30 movies of all time. Incredibly acted throughout.
I wasn’t allowed to see this. I could watch all the teet-filled slasher flicks or comedies I wanted, but a violent war movie crossed some sort of line with my parents.

So I saw it later in life and it didn’t have the same effect.

25% of mine have the number 2 in the title. :lmao:

The list is like a window into my childhood and really represents the decade for me. I’d definitely add some classics from the first thread though.
