I have heard rumors of Dimitri Nance getting a chance to prove himself this week, and waiting is J. Starks. We all know the B. Jackson is not getting it done and they are not making any trades, so if they want to be a real playoff team they are going to need a running game. I personally think Dimitri Nance might get something going. But, J. Starks is all people talk about. How do you all think this will work out

I doubt it. He has been available, and hasnt been mentioned in a few weeks. A guy in one of my leagues is still rostering this guy.I really don't see any value in him at all....and cant imagine that anyone would think he is worth a roster spot...redraft or dynasty.

At this point I am waiting for the perfect circle to come together with a thread claiming that Green Bay is trading for Vincent Jackson and starting him at RB.

shaun alexander with a late career surge.

it will be a breath of fresh air in here once oct 19th passes and all this wetarded speculation stops.

Source? I'm pretty plugged in to Packer news and have heard no such thing..They will continue to split reps.

Here is what I got from another site:Per Rotoworld:Quote:Running backs coach Edgar Bennett indicated that Dimitri Nance will be ready to handle the Packers offense if called upon this week.Concerns about Nance picking up the blocking scheme led to his deactivation in Week 3 and a special teams role in Week 4. He's unlikely to see more than a handful of touches, if any, against the Redskins on Sunday.

Dude, you call yourself a Packers fan? That's from JSOnline's site....as posted earlier, #34 was talking about it, saying he was ready and knew the playbook. Personally, I still don't think they trust him on pass blocking situations with the franchise. I think we'll see him for maybe 6-9 rushes, tops. Probably less. Jackson will be in on passing downs (he's still a good pass blocker and catcher out of the backfield) and Kuhn will still be in the mix. Kuhn actually hasn't been half bad, he just lacks any sense of speed once he gets free of the line of scrimmage.

By the way, I'm hope I'm wrong and Nance is the second coming of Grant and they feed him the rock 30 times for 165 yards and 3 TDs. I just don't see it though. If he does anything, it will be a gradual transition over the next few weeks.

Nance chance this week?

McCarthy was reluctant to play recently signed halfback Dimitri Nance in his first three games with the Packers because he didn’t know the Packers’ offense well enough, but Nance appears to have a good enough grasp to play in most game situations if called upon this week at Washington.

Nance, signed off Atlanta’s practice squad after Week 1, had two carries for six yards in the Packers’ blowout win over Buffalo, then was inactive the following week at Chicago and played only on special teams last week against Detroit. John Kuhn and Brandon Jackson are the only other halfbacks on the roster, and the Packers figure to take a look at Nance soon to see if he can contribute or even become their primary halfback.

The biggest concern with a new running back is whether he knows the blocking schemes for blitz pick ups. Edgar Bennett, the Packers’ running backs coach, said Nance now has a good understanding of most of the playbook in that regard.

“He’ll be ready,” Bennett said.

Starks.

It's gotta be Starks.

Why pass on Lynch? Too expensive? It would have been exciting to see Lynch in that offense but not *that exciting? Or did they have faith in a guy they wanted to see after Week 7? My guess is it's the latter.

They also cut bait on Quinn Porter; Shanny & the Skins picked him up.

I'm just guessing here, but watch the Pack use the same gradual introduction of Starks that they did with Grant and just try to get by in the meantime. But there will come a day when they want that running game and Starks will be there.

"Thompson should be getting help in the form of sixth-round draft choice James Starks after the Miami Dolphins game Oct. 17. The Packers were very high on Starks coming out of the draft but were unable to get him on the field much because he suffered a hamstring pull during off-season workouts and then aggravated it in a conditioning test at the start of training camp.

He spent all of camp on the physically unable to perform list, where he remains. Under NFL rules, he is eligible to return to practice after the sixth game. At that time, the Packers will have three weeks to decide whether to put him on the 53-man roster, place him on injured reserve or release him.

Starks hasn't played football since the 2008 season, missing his senior season at the University of Buffalo because of a shoulder injury.

Nance is considered a tough runner inside. At his pro day in March, he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.63 seconds, registered a 33-inch vertical jump, 9 feet 6 inches in the broad jump and 19 reps in the bench press. He was not drafted, and the Falcons signed him as free agent.

Nance was the leading rusher for two straight years at Arizona State and as a senior rushed for 795 yards and six touchdowns, earning honorable mention All-Pac-10 honors.

At Trinity High School, he was one of only two players in Texas 5A football history (the other was current Cincinnati Bengals running back Cedric Benson) to rush for more than 3,000 yards in a season. He had 3,173 yards and 41 touchdowns."

"Injuries dogged Starks throughout his UB career. He sat out his senior season with a shoulder problem that required surgery. The Packers got him in the sixth round of last April's draft, but he would have gone much earlier if not for questions about his durability.

Even though they haven't seen much of Starks' talent since he arrived in Green Bay, the Packers remain intrigued by his potential.

"He's a big, athletic running back, and I think he has the ability to be a three-down player,'' Packers head coach Mike McCarthy told the Buffalo media via conference call this week. "I haven't seen him in pads yet, so there's really a lot of information we haven't been able to gain on him. Hopefully he can get past this [injury] and get healthy so when we get there after Week Six we can evaluate him.''"

“He’ll be ready,” Bennett said.
 Saying "he'll be ready" doesn't mean he's about to take over the running game. They will continue to split reps like they've been doing all along. Nothing to see here.

Grant is back next year. Woulda been back for the playoffs if they could have afforded the roster space. If they don't trade for a big time RB or a guy like Nance or Starks doesn't emerge they'll likely draft a RB late next year to replace BJax if needed but Grant would start. If they trade for a guy like Deangelo all bets are off or if Nance or Starks explode.
