The Nick Foles era (5 Viewers)

I don't want to read every post in here, but:

A lot of people said the same thing after watching two games from Kolb starting a few years ago.

Are you convinced this isn't another Kevin Kolb?

So much of the Eagles' QB success this year is a product of the system. From a fantasy standpoint, I don't care why my QB scores points, but from an NFL perspective, I'd like to know whether this kid is really the future.

You and a lot of Eagles fans.

My stance on foles has always been "I want to see more." With his play the last 2 weeks I still want to see more but because I am excited about what I've seen. I think he plays next week. So we'll see what he does when first place is on the line.

Kolb lost his first starts of 2009 and 2010 and was up-and-down throughout his career with Philly.

Foles is nothing but perfect so far. He's earned a 2nd start at least.

foles has made something like 6 starts and has two wins, both against the bucs.

Exactly. The returns look good for this year at least but lets not annoint him the next Bobby Hoying.

Foles showed me more by what he did last year behind that horrible OL and back ups at some skill positions. I expected this from him now that he has more experience and the surrounding cast improved.

He's done nothing to show he is not. Even filling in last year I was impressed how good he looked off the bench as a rookie.

For anyone who is is doubting Foles' performance, keep in mind that I heard alot about TB's good pass defense before this game, yet he still put up 4 tds.

Moreover, nearly every FBG projection from this sites' "experts" had Foles rated low, around 16th or so. NOBODY here had the cajones to predict this.

The rest of Foles' schedule is fantastic. All Foles' owners need to hope he stays as starter.

Tremendous value play in fantasy drafts after the Vick sensation last night and likely being named the starter by Kelly. When Vick inevitably gets hurt a few weeks in, Foles will likely put up numbers that will far exceed his draft spot.
I'd like to to give myself a :hifive: but this was too easy.
You just did, Mr. Humble. And it wasn't a hard call.
Your call? Calls?

All that can be said is that foles lit it up. I paid in a trade to pick up vick after I got foles on waivers. The NFL is very unpredictable, so if you own both of these quarterbacks I believe you are in good shape. Schedule is very nice and the offense has shown that it is good. I think Fantasy Football wise, just worry about who your starting in week 12 at QB when eagles have a bye.

so when vick is 100% who is getting the start?

I honestly think chip Kelly may attempt a QBBC. they are two completely different play styles

Except he's said in so many words that its a terrible idea to Philly reporters this morning. Qbbc does not work in the nfl.Its a moot point because Vick wont be healthy this week. May not be the following week either. By then foles will either have solidified the job or shown why vick should get his job back.

This is the 2013 version of SF... the QB meter will keep swinging towards Foles with every week he plays well and Vick sits out. Two more weeks (maybe one if the Eagles light up DAL) and it's over for Vick IMO.

I think if Vick can play this week, he plays.

Tough to speculate too much on Foles just yet - body of work is just not there. Which is why I think Foles SHOULD start - what does an 8-8 season with Vick starting and putting up normal stats tell us about our QB situation? Foles COULD be the anwer at QB. He also could suck - I mean, Matt Cassel has had games similar to what Foles had yesterday - but we have enough film on him now to know he's not the answer. Would be great to get more film on Foles and see what we got.

Guarantee you Jacksonville or Min would trade Gabbert on Ponder for Foles in a heartbeat.

Excellent point. I heard this nafternoon that Mike Vick's contract is over at the end of this season... Seems that Philly needs to find out right now just what they have in Foles.

Many Eagles fans feel this way and wanted Foles from the start for this very reason. The only explanation that makes sense to me is that Kelly wants Vick to run the offense because Vick runs it more like Kelly wants so he can evaluate other positions in his system. With Foles being more of a traditional pocket passer, Kelly doesn't get to evaluate the O-line the way he'd like.

Just a guess, otherwise I feel its yet another wasted year with Vick and really not knowing if Foles can be the guy.

It's crazy how everyone always comes to the same exact conclusion. What exactly are you guys waiting to see from Foles? He has a college resume that suggest he might be a great prospect. He also has NFL games, pre and reg season, under his belt that suggest he might be great in this league. He is not going to fall flat on his face like your "gut" is suggesting might happen. You have no evidence that proves otherwise. He has 66 passing attempts vs Dal already. If I had to make a educated guess he's going to push for 300 yards, complete 60+% of his attempted passes and be a threat for multiple TDs while not turning the ball over much just like a good QB is supposed to do.

sure. and the dolphins traded a second-round pick for AJ Feeley. And what did the Eagles get for Kevin Kolb?

whatever, we prison rape other teams who fall in love with our backup QBs. they're products of the offense.

i sure hope foles isn't another unless we do trade him.

No matter what if you have Vick and he does start this week or next it's worth keeping Foles because Vick will likely get hurt again.

Yep, that's one thing you can count on.

Feeley sucked. Kolb couldn't stay healthy. He was 4-0 last season.

Vick owner but I think Philly has to keep Foles as the QB to see what he has. Philly isn't winning a SB this year so they need to try and figure out if they need a QB for the future or not. They know what they have in Vick and he's not the guy to lead this team going forward. To me, it wouldn't make sense to go back to Vick unless Foles plays himself out of the starting position.

Here is a scenario:

Lets say Foles starts the next two weeks and puts up 2 wins and in the process he throws for around 700 yards has 6 total touchdowns and 2 total turnovers, and looks like a franchise quarterback, and takes the job from Vick. He proceeds to finish the year with around 3500 passing yards 25 touchdowns and the Eagles go 9 - 7 and just miss the playoffs or get the last wild card spot and lose in the first round.

How likely is it that Eagles look to draft a quarterback in the first 3 rounds?

How likely is it that Chip Kelly actually tweaks the offense some and keeps Foles as his franchise quarterback?

How likely is it that the Eagles trade Foles and draft a quarterback?

In that scenario, I doubt we'll be in a draft position to get a franchise QB. That case, you stick with Foles, and draft BPA wherever (except at TE and RB).

People always say that when college coaches come to the nfl. Maybe that's happened but i can't think of any time where it has.
Spurrier with Wuerffel. But he didn't draft him. Just brought him in as a retread.
Dennis Dixon count?

No because he was never going to play. Wuerffel actually started a bunch of games.

If the Eagles go 9-7 they might win that Division by two games!
Seriously. We're 3-3 right now. If we win our next 2, we'll be 5-3 with a 4-0 record in the division. I'd say we run away with the division in that scenario.
Good point I forgot how bad the division is. I would still like to hear from some Philly homers. My gut tells me even if this happens the Eagles and Kelly will take a quarterback early in the draft next year.

If Vick goes in FA, then they'll be taking a QB. Do you consider late 2nd or 3rd round early? If so, I'd bet you're right, but right now it's hard to envision a scenario where the Eagles take a QB in the top 10.

so you expect three QBs to go in the top 10? why can't marriotti last until the eagles pick? or they trade up to 15-18 if they're picking lower.

The scenarios haven't changed much from way back in January except for Vick still being here. I wanted Foles to play this whole year so we can find out what we have.

A. Foles is awesome and wins the starting job. We don't need to draft a franchise QB and can focus on other positions.

B. Foles is good but not quite what Kelly wants. We trade Foles for a 2nd and draft who Kelly wants.

C. Foles sucks and we end up with a top 10 draft pick. So we can get the QB Kelly wants.

Option C looking less likely now. What we will find out over the course of the season is whether it's A or B.

First of all Vick isn't playing next week. Rotoworld said he'd miss several weeks. Lets pretend he's 95 percent do you think Kelly is gonna bench Foles after how well he's played? Don't be so stupid. Vick will rest this week and if Foles wins the job is his if he loses back to the bench it's that simple. Foles will be playing for his job this week. Dallas has a good team but I think Eagles could win.

I would expect him to put up big numbers in the new eagles offense. vick may not get his job back
Unless Foles puts up 300 yds and 2-3 tds with no turnovers in the next 2 games, I think Vick will stay the starter. Kelly's in his first year and neither of these guys are the future. Having lockerroom loyalty is far more important in year 1.
If Foles lights up the Cowboys and the WRs have great games again, he could very easily lose the locker room if he goes back to Vick.

Riley Cooper actually looked like an NFL WR. Imagine that when you throw the ball to where the WR is supposed to be. DJack CAN be a factor in the red zone and WRs can still get yards after the catch. Interesting developments from this past week.

What kind of stat line do you guys think Foles will put up against Tampa/Revis. Not exactly a cupcake matchup.
The offense will score in the 30's. We couldn't run at all vs Tampa last season. Foles had no choice but to shred them. He was the highest scoring QB in fantasy that week. 250 yards, 2 TD is probably a floor. He's a pickup and play. If ever there was a such thing as a QB HC, this is one.

I would consider anything second round or higher to be early.

Foles is too good for the Eagles to abandon ship and start over.
Again, he's played 6.5 games. I think we should let the guy play before we anoint him anything either way.
It didn't take Was, Mia, Sea, Ind long before they put faith in their QB from Foles class.
I think that is a little different. 2 of those were the top 2 picks and the other only had to beat out Matt Flynn and Tarvaras Jackson.

Exactly. Foles didn't win the camp battle. Will take time for him to cement the job. Comparing him to Luck, RG3, Tannenhill and Wilson doesn't do Foles justice because those situations are completely different. He's on the right track though. Just keep winning and playing well.

This makes me think a little bit. Why ever draft a quarterback outside of the first round? If you don't have the conviction to make a quarterback the leader of your team, I don't think it usually works out very well. Of course there are exceptions to the rule (Russell Wilson jumps out the most), but what's the point of wasting a third or fourth round pick on a quarterback that you expect to be a backup?

With that being said, I really like Foles. I also was cheering when the Eagles traded up for Barkley. I guess it shows my Eagles fan bias.

This will have a lot to do with where they think Barkley is at that time. IF he doesnt play this year and gets his shoulder back to 100% while learning he could be in line for the #2 job next season if Foles takes the starting job.

With everyone wanting and taking QB's next year I would love to have Foles take the starting job and get a top defesnive player due to everyone going QB crazy.
