The OFFICIAL 2007 Boston Red Sox Thread (2 Viewers)

Red Sox just need 6 of 11 to wrap up the best record in the AL. I have complete confidence they will do that.
:X Red Sox are 90-61, with 11 games left...Cleveland and Anaheim are both 88-62, with 12 games left...To "wrap up" best record the Sox would have to go either 10-1 or 11-0 (depending on tiebreakers I don't feel like researching), since Anaheim and Cleveland can both obviously get to a maximum of 100 wins...
I was not referring to 'theoretical'...Neither team will go 10-1, or 9-2. Sox win both tie-breakers so both teams would need to pull ahead of them
I don't think theoretical means what you think it means...
how about 'statistical'If the Sox finish with 96 wins, either Cle or LAA would need to go 9-3 to overtake the lead. I don't see that happening for either team. (The Yankees would need to go 10-2 on their end, which also isn't happening). So, for me, 6 / 11 is the golden number.
The Yanks just finished a 10-2 12 game stretch against Seattle (2 games), KC, Toronto, Boston, and Baltimore (1 game)...Doesn't seem outrageous to think they could do the same against Baltimore, Toronto and Tampa...:shrug:Is it likely?Probably not, but to dismiss it out of hand seems a bit rash...
A common thing to use in statistics is the 95% confidence interval...96 wins puts it in my 95% confidence interval

Your confidence interval? Whew. And, here I thought statistics was an objective discipline. Good to know I have a little wiggle room to make up my analyses as I go.

Well, it agrees with the BP playoff odds calculator, if that works better for you ;)

Yeah, I'd probably reference that, instead.

So Lester outpitches Burnett and Gagne pisses it away....what a joke. I don't want this guy to pitch another inning for the Red Sox ever

Wow. I seriously can't believe they're blowing it like this.

I still think the Sox pull it out...but, it should've never even been this close to begin with.

I actually do feel pretty bad for the guy. That's got to be a pretty ####ty situation; Being on the Sux and being hated by the entire fan base.

wow, people coming out of the woodwork to pile on here...keep it coming
I hope you're not complaining under your breath here. We could probably find a post or two--or a hundred--from Sox fans infiltrating the Yanks thread to pile on over there.

14.5 virtually wiped out. It's not just September.

What happened to your "running" thread?
It got pinched. I may be in the lead for thread's pinched without a TO.Sox looking solid again tonight. I feel like I did when they limped into to the playoffs only to get swept by the White Sox. I felt like they didn't belong. If you can't go into the post season strong, you don't belong :ibtcards: Anyhow, that's how I feel. If the Yanks come back and take the division, good for them, at least they're playing with heart. Sox are ####### embarrassing right now. Before I hear the bandwagon #### this is the deal. You have 3 teams on your heels and a 4.5 game lead on your division rival and you drop 4 straight, 3 to the BJ's, scoring a total of 8 runs? The Sox are in my blood and it kills me to see them collapse. It's like having a son come home and disappoint you time and time again. Eventually it's like "I love the kid but he disgusts me". Same deal when Manning came back on the Pats in the AFC Championship game. I said "Good for him, ####in guy earned it". I hate the guy but I appreciate any one who comes out and plays with heart. I suspect Gagne has his own security team following him around.See you in the ALCS...
How many pages did it get to?And I don't take the ALCS for granted, I HOPE the Yanks see you there! Two tough hills to climb, and I've seen this team hit postseason hot before and get rolled.

Who has Sox ALDS tix???

<------------------this guy

Will be at either Game 1 or 3 (depending upon finish) to see either Beckett or Dice-K. I am not sure what would be more satisfying...seeing Beckett pitch 8 innings of shutout ball to start things off, or to see Dice-K strikeout 11 to complete the Sox sweep...

"Without Okajima to set up closer Jonathan Papelbon, Boston will continue to turn to Eric Gagne, who has allowed 14 runs and 23 hits in 14 innings since the Red Sox acquired him from Texas on July 31. He wasted an eighth-inning lead in Tuesday's 4-3 loss."
Very happy to see this going down for the last 10 games of the season. No okie, means more gagne, which hopefully means more totals in the "L" column. Sounds like Okie's dead arm is going to keep him out till the post season kicks off. Good news for the Bombers.

The former is MUCH more likely

yea cause Rice-K has had a total of ZERO, 11K games all season and has averaged exactly half of that over his last 10 starts.

He has hit 10 a number of times...I can see him taking it to the next level for the playoffs...But I agree with shady, most likely I will be goin to the the first game of the series

he hit 10k 3 times this season. Twice in the first 2 weeks of the season and then only once since then....not sure how he is going to step it up a notch.
