Here is what I am hoping for from some of you. I went to the Pro Bowl rosters from the merger-1966 and started there for some inspiration. I want to try and get some of the big uglies in as I know none of you are going to overlook a lot of the Qbs, RBs, and WRs...but after the flash and splash portion of the program, we do need to spotlight some of the great OL and DL that should be put in for their contributions. Remember, if you have no blocking then you have no running and likely no passing either.

So I focused on OL and I came up with some good ones that I am hoping other more Senior members of the board might actually be able to talk about.

I used Gene Hickerson as an example. he was voted into the HoF in 2007 by the Senior Committe IIRC and I have to think his eligibility for the Hall had passed. Gene posted 6 Pro Bowls and was a 3 time All Pro...the All Pros seem to carry more weight so I added those in big time for what I was looking for.

Grady Alderman LT, Minnesota: Guy was in 6 Pro Bowls during the run of 1963-1969 and was all an All Pro in 1969. He played for the Vikings who went to a lot of Super Bowls even though they lost in the 60s and 70s, have to think this guy was a big part of some of that. Vikingfans? What say you?

**** Schafrath LT, Cleveland: This player was a Pro Bowler in '63, '64, '65, '66, '67, and '68...this was 6 straight years, always a sign of dominance. Was also an All pro in '63, '64, '65, and '69...a 4 time All Pro is pretty impressive.

Ken Gray RG, St Louis Cardinals: Pro Bowls in '61, '63, '64, '66, '67, and '68. A 2 time All Pro in '64 and '69...part of a great OL in St louis during the 60s that I think included Dan Dierdorf but I would have to check.

John Niland LG, Dallas: Went to the Pro Bowl in '68, '69, '70, '71, '72, and '73...again 6 years in a row, has at least 1 SB ring, and a 2 time All Pro in '71 and '72.

Those were 4 OL I picked up in the mid 60s lets say...Niland was a tad later but not much. Anyone got any to add to this? There were others in this era that went to say 5 or 6 Pro Bowls, but these guys had the All Pro additions on their resumes which I think makes a much stronger case. And then you look at what the HoF did with Gene Hickerson and some of these guys are definitely worth consideration.

The problem with your Pro Bowl method is that for OL guys there are no objective standards to measure them against each other, so it all becomes a popularity contest. The same guys would get named to the line 5 years running because they played for Dallas or Green Bay and got publicity. It's not much better now. Why one OLman gets voted to the Pro Bowl year after year instead of some other, equally talented player is unknowable.

Sorry for bumping this but I was just looking at QB Jim Everett's stats... did anybody else know he was so good?!?

- 158 Games

- 54.85 Completion % (I'm including Sacks with Pass Attempts in this case)

- 34,837 Passing Yards

- 203 TD vs. 175 INT

- 12.26 YPC and 6.73 YPA

- 596 rushing yards and 4 TD

- Threw for more than 3,800 yards in 5 seasons and over 4,000 yards in 1989

He led the NFL in TD passes twice and threw for over 20 TD in 6 seasons despite often playing for poor teams record wise.

I listed him in the HOF QB candidates list from the 90s thread from a few weeks ago and several people thought that was an odd choice. He actually was a solid player but certainly not as high profile as some other guys.
