The Official Kicker (K) Thread (8 Viewers)

Yeah, I NEVER roster 2 kickers. I'm also holding The Leg.. for now at least
I think a lot of us are in that same boat.  Greg the leg simply has too much upside to not try and hold him for a week or two. Plus LAR play against Bears and Eagles in weeks 14 and 15.  Both good defenses which could mean more stalled drives in the redzone.

Yeah I dropped him for Callaway Thursday before kickoff

Is there a worse punter still in the league besides Brad Pinion (SF)?  Regardless of field position, this guy seems incapable of getting over 40 yards on his punts, while a majority of NFL punters have the ability to boom one 50-60 at will.

Liked him as a rookie, but very surprised he's held on to the job this long.

Patience paid off with Lutz, had a monster WK 3 with 15 points.

So hard to project week to week. If you have a good one don't be too quick about dumping him.

Any Dan Bailey owners sticking with him this week?

Dropped Vinatieri for him last week and don't know what to make of the Vikings pathetic showing against the Bills. The Rams will most likely be without their two starting corners this Thursday night. But they still have that Aaron Donald guy...

Raiders signed K Matthew McCrane.

Mike Nugent is dealing with a hip injury sustained during the Raiders game against Miami on Sunday. McCrane will fill in for as long as Nugent is out, and there is a chance the Raiders send Nugent to IR. In college, McCrane made 86.6 percent of his field goals and just missed one of 134 extra points. McCrane went undrafted but spent time with the Cardinals in camp.

Kicker has been a complete disaster for me so far.  Gotten 2 points in three weeks.  Started with Boswell and dropped him for bailey.  Guess I'm gonna stick with Bailey another week but I don't have many options

Ryan Succop - K -  Titans

Ryan Succop is dealing with knee tendinitis.

Succop didn't practice Wednesday, putting his Week 4 status in question. The Titans will be forced to sign a kicker if Succop can't play this week.

Dan Bailey has yet to miss a field goal or extra point since joining the Vikings.

I’m going to celebrate so hard if he gets a field goal tonight!

Start your studs.

Gostkowski was dropped in my 12 team league.  Is he worth a #6 waiver claim?  Been streaming Ks.
So I know people treat kickers like a complete afterthought, but dropping Gostkowski (after 1 lousy game where frankly the entire team was lousy) is just crazy. I cannot imagine there are better waiver wire options out there--unless you are in a 6 team league. LOL.

If you pick up Gostkowski, you will no longer need to stream kickers (in my humble opinion of course).

I picked up Dan last week which didn't work out obviously.  I dropped him for the old man Vinateri this week.

And thus, the eternal struggle of kickers: they don’t run, pass or catch the ball other than the occasional trick play.

Dan the Man was largely touted as a must-start - described by some here as an elite kicker, “highest accuracy” of all active kickers. What a pick-up if available, and definitely a hold for those who drafted him.

and while all of that might be true, and while he might well finish in the top 5 this year, he still put up a big, fat, goose egg. Zilch, zippo, zero, a doughnut.

The bottom line is, was, and always shall be that kickers are at the mercy of their offense.  They rely on everyone else to create opportunity. And while true that RB & QB rely on their coaches/OCs to call favorable plays, that’s quite a bit different than a K, who’s sent out when, and only when, a team puts them in position to kick a FG.

Whether it’s a long, short, or medium FG; or merely a PAT (thanks McManus for my 2 points last week, btw) they’re 100% at the mercy of what the team gives them.

And even a great kicker like Dan Bailey puts up the occasional zero.

Not singling out @Steeler with this comment/diatribe, of course, but it’s a great example.

In my humble opinion, spending any time trying to figure out what K is going to have a big week & streaming kickers is a fool’s errand. You’ll be wrong as often as you are right, and you’ll probably do worse than grabbing a kicker & sticking with thm until BYE or injury changes things.

Good luck with Vinateri this week. He should be good at home. Maybe. lol

More K news - hip injuries aren’t great for kickers.

Jaguars K Josh Lambo (hip) was held out of Thursday's practice.

Lambo will likely need a limited session on Friday to be ready to kick against the Jets. Either way, the Jaguars kicker will not be a recommended streamer for Week 4.

Just like any other position you try to make the best choice you can based on the information at hand - sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't

Like I said - I wasn’t singling you out:

But I disagree that it’s “just like any other position“.

Kicker production is far more random than any other position.

Not feeling singled out.  I agree it's more random that other positions, but I still treat it like other position in terms of doing my best to start the right guy with the information I have at hand.

Of course - anyone does. The swings between ceiling & floor seem far more dramatic for K though.

And the markers for making accurate predictions seem far more difficult to identify.

Adam Vinatieri was added to the Colts' injury report on Tuesday, missing practice with a right groin injury.

Almost every single Colts player is hurt. The wave of offensive/defensive ailments has now reached Indy's most important special teamer. It's unclear how serious the issue might be, though you don't usually see a kicker go from "full" to "DNP."

Ok, I waited for the bustling kicker news to settle down a bit, and this topic hasn’t moved since Tuesday.

So...without further ado, welcome to the 2nd officially unofficial kicker contest!

Easy to win!  :pickle:

Even easier to lose!  :sadbanana:

But hopefully fun to play & let’s face it: we all, deep down inside, want to love kickers. And what better way to love a kicker than with 2 bottles of gourmet hot sauce? (Er, at least without having a restraining order slapped on you)

The rules are simple, but have been slightly altered by request from the peanut gallery.

1. USA only. Sorry foreigners - my generosity runs only so deep & international postage is brutal.

2. Get your guess in by 5 mins before kickoff, by time-stamp.

3. No editing of posts. If you make a mistake or change your guess, clear that post & post again. An edited post is an automatic DQ. Them’s the rules.

4. There is one (1) entry allowed per FBG member.

5. IMPORTANT NEW RULEWhen you submit your guess, please provide a brief (less than 40 word) explanation for why you believe your kicker will be the best kicker this week. Field or weather conditions; team vs defense; you like the set of his jaw & the steely look in his eye; you personally sold him steroids; etc. That way this topic stays on point for the kicker purists. You must post an explanation to qualify.

AND NOW THE SPECIFIC CONTEST GUESSIFICATION RULES:

Post your guesses of the following metrics:

• Which kicker will score the most points week 5, using standard FFB performance scoring. .1/1, anything up to 30 yards = 3 points. 31 yards = 3.1 points, 37 yards = 3.7, etc. A PAT is 1 point.

to clarify: you must guess total points!

• Any trick plays/botched FG resulting in points are points. Direct snap to the kicker, runs for a 47 yard TD? That’s 10.7 for your kicker. (and my god I would love to see that happen. How absolutely glorious.

• what the long distance FG for that kicker will be. Guessing over is ok - it’s “closest to the number” that matters here. This ain’t The Price is Right.

• how many PAT/FG they will miss this week. That number can be 0, of course. Just one more way to avoid ties.

TIEBREAKERS: In the event of two people with the same guess (same K, same long, same # missed), time-stamp decides it.  First to post that guess wins.

In the extremely unlikely event of 2 different kickers having identical winning metrics, and two FBG members both guessing them correctly, both members will win.

You still have time to get in before tonight’s game if you want a Pats or Colts K. Just get the guess in 5 mins before kickoff by time-stamp.

GOOD LUCK!

Crosby - 16.7pts, long of 49yds, 1 missed PAT/ FG

A. Rodgers is either not at 100%, he misses time, has no one to throw to, or all 3 happen...forcing Crosby to score all the points in a losing effort

no bias whatsoever...GO BEARS!  :D

Gostkowski, 17.2 pts, 51 yds, 0 missed (Not editing my original post)

Colts are going to have a bend but don't break defense tonight. Gostkowski will will the beneficiary of this. Plus, I have him in my fantasy league so i may be just a bit biased.

Will Lutz  16.1 points, long of 44, 0 missed PAT/FG

Saints at home in the dome score 3 touchdowns, and 3 FG's - Ingram stuffed in short yardage resulting in a few kicks.

Caleb Santos- Rams are cooking right now so there's plenty of opportunity and maybe he does well enough to keep Greg on the shelf a little longer (and keep himself employed too)

Three FGs, 4 EPs, 0 Misses - 14.7 pts

Crosby.  17.0.  52 yds.  1 miss.

He did that last week in a blow out, at home... DET gives up the second most points to kickers, and they're in the dome.

also... only reason why I came to the thread was to see if HSG posted a contest... so regardless if I win or not, THANKS @Hot Sauce Guy!
