The Official Kicker (K) Thread (4 Viewers)

Human interest kicking. Eddy Pineiro talks about his father living practically next door to the SF kicker.

That's cool - always love those types of stories. Pineiro doesn't get much play on the weekly or rest of the season rankings, but he is just a point back of Aubrey in my main league and actually bests everyone, including Aubrey, in PPG for kickers (he didn't play week 1). He hasn't missed a FG yet (15/15, with one missed XP) and plays for a good offense. The sample size is pretty small I guess, but if you're looking for an upgrade, you could do worse than plugging him in - he's available in a lot of leagues.

Snagged him last week in both of my redraft leagues and couldn’t be happier. Takes all of the edge off of losing Shrader.

The definition of “set and forget.”

My kicker strategy.

Unless I have B. Aubrey (which I don't)...

...Drop my kicker every waiver period.

Work waivers/FA to fill other holes as best as possible.

Come Sunday morning, pickup the BA kicker who is a) Favored, b) Isn't a bum, c) Preferably in a dome, d) Offense tends to get clunky in the redzone.

In a world where for the most part kickers are random number generators, this has worked well for me.

Yes but it's unbelievable how often owners stick with kickers and come 12:59 there are several top 10 kickers still available. Fantasy blind spot for many.

We HAD a guy in our league who bitched anyone who did this saying it was unsportsmanlike not to roster a kicker at all times. So glad he's gone.

Who do you drop Sunday morning typically

I have Aubrey in a dynasty league and love it as he has been terribly consistent. Other than that I would agree although if I have a good kicker on a hot offense I have a hard time dropping him. Points are points…

One guy in my league drafts a starting lineup every year (1 QB, 2RBs, 2WRs, 1 TE, 1 Flex guy, 1 defense, 1 kicker) then leaves the room and sets to auto draft.

He just burned a waiver move on picking up a kicker I assume he'll be holding for the rest of the season.

We call his team the "walking check".

I’m considering pivoting from Matt Gay, Wash. (Usually whomever I pick up scores less than who I drop in the first week) Can Wash keep this game close without its WRs?

Thoughts on Tyler Loop ROS? He supposedly has a big leg but is only 1/2 from 50+ this season. He hasn't kicked more than 2 FG in any game so far. His two best games were weeks 1 and 2 when Lamar played (but week 3 with Lamar was not good). Lamar should return this week, so does Loop go back to being a weekly decent option? One thing that makes me nervous is his schedule. Weeks 11-18, every game is outdoors in a cold weather stadium.

Picked him up the day Shrader went on IR and haven't looked back, he's money

I dropped Loop for Little in Jax. Little has a huge leg and was good last year I believe. But he's sucked this year. And of course Loop got picked up though he's struggled this year as well. I just picked up the rookie kicker in New England...Arrebrogos or something like that. He's been solid this year.

I'm mainly trying to decide between Reichard (MIN) and Loop (BAL) for the rest of the season. Honestly, it's an easy decision. Reichard has WAY more dome/warm weather games ROS, and he's hit four 50+ yarders compared to one for Loop. The only things going for Loop are the fact that he's the Ravens kicker (irrational comparison to Tucker) and since Lamar is back, their offense will be better. Otherwise, Reichard should be a slam dunk between the two. Right??

Reichard quietly having a pretty solid season on what is amounting to a pretty mediocre/poor offense in MIN. He's 13/13 on PAT's and 14/16 on FG's, including five FG's of 50+ yards. His long so far this year is 62, and he now holds not only the record in MIN, but three of the four longest in franchise history.

What's interesting, though, is the details surrounding his two FG misses. The first came against CLE in the Dublin game. With MIN trailing 17-14 late, Reichard kicked what looked like a relatively routine make for him (51 yards).... until it veered wide right at the last moment. It was later determined that the kick likely hit a camera wire, causing the strange change in direction. According to this article, the NFL admitted that his kick hit the camera wire, but also described it as "an optical illusion," refusing to adjust the stats in terms of a missed field goal.

NFL admits they missed a call on Will Reichard's kick, won't reverse it

Fast forward to last night, and Reichard misses his second kick of the season. This one was slightly longer (53 yards), but still well within his range.... And he came up a couple of yards short. This time, there doesn't appear to be any wire involved, but rather MIN may not have had time (or simply failed) to switch balls before the kick. Rather than bringing in the special "K ball" for the FG attempt, the offense scrambled to get the kick off using the same ball that Justin Jefferson had caught on a 17-yard pass on the previous play. In an era of possible "juiced" (or over-inflated?) balls for NFL kickers, it makes one wonder how much of a difference the use of two different balls is making. Reichard has kicked several 50+ kicks this year (including the 62-yarder), most of which had plenty of distance to spare. With the "regular" ball, though, he comes up short from 53....

Reichard kick comes up short

Reichard and I don't think it's close.

I lean Reichard too. I wanted him, but got outbid, so I settled for Loop. Boswell got dropped this week too, so if Lamar does not play, I pivot to Boswell.

Gimme Loop over Reichard. I think with Lamar coming back the Ravens offense is going to put up a lot of points. JJ McCarthy led Vikings offense will be low scoring.
