Glavine is sickening. "I'm not devastated, devastated is reserved for something much worse". No one is asking you to compare this to Katrina or 9/11 Glav, but maybe in the realm of baseball, for your fans sake, you could fake being devastated.
This guy has no sack, apart from the 95 World Series, he's been a classic bed crapper, you can take his 300 wins and two cy's but he's no Hall of Amer to me.

Give me a break.He was dominant in the 1992 World Series, the entire 1995 and 1996 postseasons, and the 1998 postseason, very good in the 1999 postseason, 2001 postseason, and decent last postseason. Yes, he was awful today and he really doesn't have much left in the tank. But what are you really expecting from a 41 year old pitcher?

Top shelf guy? This guy strung the Mets along last off season hoping for a sniff from the Braves which never came. He'll be in the Hall, but if you were making a list of pitchers from his era to win a game, he wouldn't be on the first 10 you'd chose.Doctor Detroit said:

The 41 year old part is fair and something I did over look. My reaction is more from his "oh well" reaction to absolutely crapping the bed twice when if he gives even a servicable effort in either game, maybe they are playing for something tomorrow. He's never really wanted to be in New York, and it's always showed. Look at his entire postseason picture, he's been at best pedestrian. I'll take a mulligan on saying he's done nothing, but please, this guy is not an all timer. You'll never tell your kids, "yeah, I saw Tom Glavine pitch".Workhorse said:

Moyer is just as old as Glavine and stepped up (as a veteran should do) when the team needed him most. So what would I expect from the 41 year old pitcher who by your own admission is much better than Moyer? I love the logic here. Moyer was ATROCIOUS in the second half of the season, putting up a 6.16 ERA. Glavine was pretty much the only consistent pitcher the Mets had in the second half, with a 3.84 ERA. That means that over a 3 month stretch, Glavine was TWICE AS GOOD as Moyer. But in one game, on one day, Moyer pitched better than Glavine - Yes, it was a critical game. But Moyer's performance yesterday was a fluke. He's an AWFUL pitcher these days and he's most likely going to get exposed this postseason if he sees the ball. The whole notion that one guy "stepped up" and one guy didn't is kind of overrated in this context. Glavine "stepped up" since the all-star break the way nobody else on that Mets staff could. Congrats to the Phillies and their fans. They certainly appeared to want it more and went out and got the job done.

My problem is I have some Met fan friends who are Super Hyper Obnoxious Met Fans that practically threw a funeral for the Yankees in June while celebrating their apparent World Series trip.Phillies fans need to give a big THANK YOU to the Washington Nationals for sweeping the Mets and then losing 2 of 3 to the Phillies. Oh and the Mets need to thank the O's for sending them John Maine, or they'd not even be in the place of losing on the last day.

On the FAN yesterday the Mets insider they always interview said that he expects two things to happen:1. They go after Santana HARD in the off season and throw whatever necessary (short of Reyes or Wright) at the Twins INCLUDING Beltran.2. He expects Rick Peterson to be fired (not a huge leap there).

1. The twins want young players that they can control the next several years. Beltran is the complete opposite of that. They will not want Beltran in a deal for Santana. I think Santana goes, but he goes for young players and maybe one veteran making around 5 million. The Twins can ask for a ton, and should get it. The Mets don't seem to have the ammunition to go after him, especially not young pitching like a Bucholtz, or Phillip Hughes.The Mets have some pieces, namely Wright and Reyes, but Reyes needs to grow up. He needs to step up and be a leader, not a crybaby. And they need to get rid of Milton Bradley Jr. (Milledge), before he does damage to clubhouse chemistry. It should be an interesting offseason.

NEW YORK -- Tom Glavine is likely to decline his option with the New York Mets by Friday's deadline, giving the pitcher time to think about his future.
Differing media outlets put the option at between $9 million and $13 million.
Glavine's contract said he must make a decision on the option by the fifth day after the Mets concluded their season.
"Tom and I have been having discussions since Sunday. As he has indicated on prior occasions, he's going to take time with his wife and his family and consider all of his options and then make his decision," Glavine's agent, Gregg Clifton, said Wednesday. "It is doubtful he'll be able to conclude that process prior to Friday."
Glavine went 13-8 with a 4.45 ERA in 34 starts spanning 200 1/3 innings this year, fading in his final three outings. He managed only one out while giving up seven runs to Florida in the first inning an 8-1 loss in the season finale Sunday that knocked New York out of postseason contention.
In other news, All-Star center fielder Carlos Beltran had arthroscopic surgery on both knees Wednesday, and an MRI exam on pitcher John Maine's left hip revealed he doesn't have a sports hernia.
Left-hander Jason Vargas also had a bone spur removed from his pitching elbow. Mets medical director Dr. David Altchek performed the operations on Beltran and Vargas at the Hospital for Special Surgery.

First of all, they dont need to do a total makeover. They need to attempt to make a move on a top flight starter. I dont think any Met fan would mind a 2, 3, 4 of Pedro, Perez and Maine. One of Humber/Pelfrey as the 5th. Zero wrong with that 2-5. Not sure if it will happen, but Omar will go after Santana, Halladay, or Oswalt. As for the bullpen, neither you or I could predict who is going to be an effective middle reliever. Seems to change year to year.
