The PM Brett Farve Thread (1 Viewer)

If Brett Farve was traded, why couldn't that team just trade him to another team for more?

Where ever the Pack sends him, won't he go to the highest bidder after that?

I've thought the same thing. If Minnesota really wants him, after he gets traded to Tampa they could simply offer a bit more.

Guy,

There are at least 15 other Favre threads, this question would fit perfectly into any one of them.

Mods, can we please put a moratorium on new Favre threads until something actually happens?

We have TEAM threads I.e. 2008 Cincinnati Bengals Official Thread. In these threads we discuss every time something new happens with the team instead of posting a new thread everytime.

Why can't we have the same for just one player?

There's 2 times since I've been here that I can't even bring myself to come into the SP. 1. Whe the Patriots were caught cheating and 2. With this Brett Favre overkill.

Simple answer: teams can insert language into trades that prevent such shenanigans.

Packers GM Ted Thopmson would have that 3rd round pick and a player deal elevate to multiple first 1st round picks should that team then trade Brett Favre to a team within the NFC North, thus preventing this scenario.

Complete speculation. No team is going to let themselves be hamstrung about what they can and cannot do with a player they are already offering compensation for. This is why the Packers wanted to sit on Favre and force him back into retirement, and now that Goodell is pressuring them it is possible that there could be a second trade should a team feel they can get more than what he is worth after they get him from Green Bay.

Thanks for the responses

The "PM Farve Thread" was a tongue in cheek title,

but the topic of why teams don't wheel and deal if they can get a good price seems to deserve its own spotlight.

Placing players by trading them away to desired teams seems to circumvent the parity caused by the cap a little.
