The Saints offense (1 Viewer)

The #1 ranked O in the NFL could end the season with:

No 1000 yard rusher

No 1000 yard receiver

An undrafted FA leading in rushing

An undrafted FA leading in receiving

I've never seen this good of an offense with no clear cut star at RB or WR. Bush is extremely useful, but will never be a go to guy. While Colston was slowed by an injury, he is by no means a star. Even the offensive line only has one first rounder and no pro bowlers. You get the impression Payton/Brees could plug in anyone else and pile up the yards.

Brees has been sacked 11 times on 547 pass attempts. Having zero pro bowlers from that offensive line is very surprising and probably unfair.

Colston not a star? Could have fooled me.
While his rookie season was impressive, I certainly don't think it sets him in star status, or anywhere near it. He's got 31 catches in 9 games this season, compared to a guy like Steve Smith (who I do consider a star) who has 70 catches in 12 games. That's more than double Colstons catches and he's got more than twice the yardage too, in only 3 more games. Granted, Colston is one of many targets in New Orleans but Carolina has weapons too. I was very high on Colston last year, in fact I drafted him in 3 leagues and people laughed ... while I got the last laugh. But until he puts it up for a few years in a row, I can't put him in star status in my book. In fact, I'd like to see him perform in the top 15 for a few years in a row, on a team with fewer weapons to spread defenses ... the guy that can excell when everything around him is crap, that guy is a star .... see: Calvin Johnson.

Well, I have no doubt that Colston would have put up another 1000 yd season if he hadn't got hurt. If I were drafting today, he would be in my top 3 WR along with Fitz and Calvin (dynasty wise), well ahead of Steve Smith. Not dissing Smith, but I've owned Smith before, and he's not the most reliable guy for numerous reasons.

Dating back to last year, in the games when Pierre Thomas received double-digit carries he has produced the following rushing numbers:

87-1

102-1

34-0

87-2

88-1

52-0

105-0

32-0

Project that out to a full season and it comes to: 1,174 yards/10 touchdowns.

Perhaps the Saints do have a 1,000-yard rusher on their team and perhaps they have a potential star at the position. Perhaps the greater question is why would Payton bury someone this productive on his depth chart for nearly half the season this year the way he did?
