The Spotify Thread - cause it's not 2011 anymore (1 Viewer)

I've always had trouble with the links and the app. If you take the whole URL pasted above "https..." and paste it into the search bar in Spotify application, that usually does the trick.

Brings it up in Chrome, but not in Spotify.
If you click on the play button it will open Spotify and play it.
Nope, took me to a page to download Spotify, even though I already had it running. Thanks Brony, I'll try that.
Click to the install/open button from there. Trust me it works. Once you go through that, I it will just always work the first time.

When I a shuffling through playlists on iOS devices, it randomly stops playing after a couple songs. Anyone else experiencing this?

I have the most current iOS and Spotify. I have also tried turning the app off, logging out and uninstalling, to no avail. The Spotify community offers no help.

Any thoughts?

TIA
I have the same issue on the Android app. A GB of mine blames it on my piss poor Wi-Fi connection at home... it is hard to argue that logic, so I just rolled with it. How is your connection?

Interesting, hadn't thought of that. When it happened yesterday, I was at the farthest point away from my router. I do have the new Quantum router from Verizon, it is a gigabit version of the Actiontec MI424WR router, so it should be in good shape. I will have to test it closer. Is there an app for testing wifi quality?

Thanks!

Any users get annoyed when it plays "other" versions of your local songs on your phone/etc? Me too. But I figured out the fix, and figured I'd post it here for anyone else driven crazy by this.

Get to spotify on a desktop. Right click on the song in question. Choose "edit info". Next to "title", simply change the name (I suggest simply adding a dash, then an l (-l) for local.) So "Midnight Rider" becomes "Midnight Rider-l" (this was the song that prompted this - I downloaded the final concert at the Beacon, but every time it got to Midnight Rider, it played some version from ten years ago - oddly, this only happened on the phone. But the above fixed it.)

Finally downloaded this on my iPhone - free version so far.

So you can't listen to an entire album in order? Just shuffle?

Also, when listening to an ablum (on shuffle damnit) that I added to my profile (I think) it will play random songs from other artists/albums that I didn't add to my profile.

:bag:

I think the issues you list are limited to the mobile version. Using the free Spotify on my tablet and work PC did't do that. Just the annoying commercials - that are getting even more frequent & annoying.

I got tired of recording the albums to my PC and editing out the commercials, so I just upgraded to premium. Right now its $1 for 3 months, then it goes to $10 (I think) per month after the promotion. Right now its well worth it.

Connect a line from your lap/tablet headphone jack to the mic in/line in on your desktop (a good sound card helps). Use Exact Audio Copy (free download) to record to a wave. EAC has track splitting and some other features like normalize and merge tracks. Then convert the wave to mp3 or burn to your own cd.

Play Spotify on your laptop/tablet, record on your PC.

Right now? Dont know why $10/month for access to damn near any music you want isnt worth it for just about everybody.

Spotify's great. Not everything I want is on there, so I do buy a lot of music. Plus I don't always want to be limited to streaming music or just what they offer. I have a lot of stuff that's just on my HD, so uploading to Google Play is very desirable so I can listen to just about anything here at work. I'd say maybe 25% of my listening is from Spotify, so I'm not sure if $10/month is worth it to me.

To each their own.

What is everyone's top song of the year? I just got this e-mail:

Your top song of 2014 was Snowgoons Infantry (feat. Del The Funky Homosapien & Reks) by Virtuoso.

My top song was supposedly Lesson 2 by Steinski, which was one of my picks for a FFA :nerd: draft. I think I listened to the first and last 30 seconds of Lesson 2 a lot for mixing purposes but I doubt it was my top track in terms of listening to it all the way through.

I listened to Spotify for 34,353 minutes which works out to 94 minutes per day or 24 days worth of 7/24 use.

Song 1 on my running 2014 Playlist, I wouldn't call it my fave but it is a good tune..

Your top song of 2014 was Galaxy Punk by Sleepy Sun.

MS has a pretty crazy deal going on right now with 1-year XBL Gold, XBox Music, and Office 365 (with unlimited OneDrive Storage) for $149. Between Gold/XB Music alone that's $10 cheaper than I currently pay for Gold+Spotify, not even accounting for the Office 365 sub which I was planning to get anyway.

Has anyone used XBox Music? Is it comparable to Spotify in terms of what's available? App-wise it looks like it has all the same devices covered as Spotify, plus XB1 dash and Windows tablets (one of which I own) as well.

Your top song of 2014 was Talk is Cheap by Chet Faker.

Good song, but not my favorite from 2014. Every year I throw songs I like into a playlist throughout the year and then listen to it on shuffle. Combination of being an early 2014 entry and luck of the random draw, I guess?

hmmm.... top of 2014 was: Algen by Amason.

this was the song I couldn't stop listening to at the end of 2013 and into the early part of this year. Looks to be true of all of my top 10. I've been pretty much on running playlists on shuffle rather than selecting songs.

fair enough.

curious what you haven't found on Spotify. I can only think of a couple bands or very rarely a 2014 album from a band i was looking for not on there. Not sure if even 5% of what i have tried to find hasnt been available.

The only band they don't have for me is Tool. But I'm a live music junkie. 90% of what I listen to is bootlegs. If its a live recording, I'll listen to it except hip hop or country. Most country. Everything from 1950 Miles Davis to Jack White from this past July (7/23). If there's a Rush/Zeppelin/Zappa/Floyd boot circulating, chances are I have it.

I just downloaded the app on my droid (free version)....

I see you get five skips. When do the skips reset to five again?

Looking at my year in music, I listen to a lot of rap (not a surprise), but they give you your 5 most common categories:

Hip hop - 22%

Rock - 22%

Juggalo - 21%

Underground hip hop - 19%

Rap - 18%

Juggalo? Really? Need to re-evaluate some things in my life.

Have had Spotify for a year or so and love it, except the shuffle.

What gives. Has to be the worst shuffle ever. Doesn't play all the songs in a playlist and repeats songs sometimes 10 minutes after hearing them.

Anyone have a solution or am I doing it wrong?

Are you a paying member? When I shuffle, it plas everything once and then stops.

Yes, pay $10 every month. The only thing I can figure is that I've "downloaded" my playlists so that I can play them when another family member uses Spotify and maybe it hasn't downloaded all the songs?

You can see if the songs are synced. It has a green downward pointing arrow under the song. Also, it's only $5 more a month for a family membership and then you don't need to worry about multiple people using at once.

When did they add the family membership? Been asking for that forever!!!You'd think they'd have sent out an announcement or something! I'd have joined in a heartbeat!

Signed up, but don't like that it isn't really a 'family' plan, just a reduction in price for each additional user.

My wife set it up, so I just knew it saved us $5 a month. You can look at it as a family plan or a discount on individual memberships, what's the difference?

You're right I may be being petty, but usually when I hear 'family plan' I think it will be one price for a bunch of users, not just one additional.

Vike Me I've noticed if I have a big playlist on shuffle, stop listening to it and go back later in the day or whatever yeah that happens.. like the session expired and it forgot what it's played already

It is a pretty shoddy software app. Bugs galore. Features that were awesome before the big upgrade a year or so ago, gone and still not back. But who else has all this sortable music for $10/mo? I suck it up and deal.

Weird, it doesn't reset my shuffle unless I begin playing from a new list or album. What else is shoddy? I find that it It runs smooth and is easy to use.

If you have it on shuffle and repeat, which it sounds like you don't, it will throw the last played track in with all the others and treats them all as unplayed. If you want to listen to all the tracks you have to take off repeat and let the list stop when it is done and then reset it.

Gotcha. I don't use the repeat.

About done with Spotify. Got this message today "Offline Access for this computer/device has been withdrawn".

Evidently: "You are allowed to store offline content on up to three devices, with a maximum of 3,333 (approx) tracks per device."

This sucks and I'm about to go back to torrenting music.

Is there any alternative to Spotify that is good?
