There's one problem with all these scenarios. Tony hates the young kids. He has said time and time again, "we don't develop players at this level." So, when Eckstein is out, Miles (A natural 2B) plays SS, and the kid who is a natural SS plays 2B despite the fact that Miles doesn't have the range or arm to play SS. Duncan gets to play because of who his dad is despite his age and has done well with his opportunities. Tony has a man-crush on Ankiel so he gets a shot. But outside of those two and Pujols (who only got a shot because of injury) and Molina, Tony does not like playing the kids. More than likely, some of that young talent will be traded for some veteran help.MrPhoenix said:Yeah, despite the crush the fans have on Eckstein, I have a feeling he's gone as well. After 2008, Edmonds will probably leave/retire as well as Rasmus should be ready by then.Trade Encarnacisuck for a prospect/pitcher on the outs, start Ryan at SS next year, start Ankiel/Ludwick at RF as a platoon (maybe include a platoon for Duncan in LF), and GET SOME PITCHING!curta269 said:Good point. I also think they will let Eckstien go at the end of the season and put Ryan in as the SS next year. It may depend on how Ryan plays the rest of the year, but he has done well so far.MrPhoenix said:Things are going well for the Cards. They're getting great starting pitching (all of the sudden) and Ankiel seems to have provided a little spark to the lineup. Instead of paying Juan Encarnacisuck 5 mil per to not give a flying crap, why not have an Ankiel/Ludwick platoon in RF? It'll save them money to spend on pitching while giving Tony LaMatchup an advantage in being flexible with his lineups.Sorry, being too rational here.
