Just saying that for vets to return to this team, they generally take a slight paycut to what they would get as free agents. As for his 2nd duty as a KR, Colclaugh (sp?), Taylor, Wilson, Morgan and another deep CB I am drawing a blank on right now are good enough replacements that KR duties shouldn't have an impact on what ARE is offered. I shouldn't have implied that he will want more $ than what Pitt will offer, only that seems to be the case in 99% of U.F.A.s. The Steelers don't need to do much bargaining in this case and probably won't waiver much in their stance. ARE has a unique set of skills, but there are at least a couple QBs in every draft that run 4.4s w/ a marginal arm that will be looked at as WR candidates. Any one of them can be used for the 'fun' plays Cowher likes to have in his playbook. Hell, I have a better arm than Bettis (and I played LB and had 2 elbow surgeries). He's thrown a few TDs in Pitt.

What about the Whizzenator? Certainly a gamble, but if the Steelers get bounced out of the playoffs, maybe they will feel like gambling a little. Seems like medium-risk/high-reward (worst case scenario they find themselves with a running game similar to this year's).If he can suit up every Sunday, he'd probably make an excellent (cheap?) member of a RBBC.[/random thought]

The Steelers coaching staff really likes Parker. They believe that Parker is still very much a work-in-progress and that he's only going to get better.

For that reason if they sign Haynes I think they will be happy to wait until the middle rounds to get a RB. The Steelers have other needs and they aren't going to want to invest a #1 pick in a big bruising back.

That's my 2 cents, anyway.

There's also another guy they can get cheap: A-train. If he's in shape (physically & mentally), Cowher might be able to whip him into pro form again.

I mentioned the same thing a few months back. He could be had really cheap, I'd guess and may be able to ressurect his career.

If Duckett is available for a mid-round selection, I'm hoping the Eagles' brass takes a good look at him. Westbrook is every bit as talented as Dunn, perhaps even more so. The two of them would be a devastating tandem... if Andy Reid ever commits to running the football.

Really? What does "he think he's worth", and what does the brass think he's worth?There's few players in the league with his specific skill set and Cowher uses him well.

I'm not sure. I haven't talked to him lately.It means what it says. If El wants to stay, Pitt would love to keep him. If he thinks he's worth #1 WR $, go try to find it and best of luck to you.

Shall I keep going? How'd these stars (Woodson aside who switched to S anyways) do after stepping out of the Pitt system. You want to win and get paid very good $ to do what you love, stay. You want to be filthy rich, we'll shake your hand, tell you thanks for everything you've done for us, and wish you good luck. Only big resign Pitts ever made was Hines, and that was like pulling teeth. The only reason that got done is 'cause a sea of black and gold would have marched on Heinz Field had it not gotten done.

Thigpen, Lloyd, Greene, Searcy, Willie Williams (the first go-round), Oliver Ross....you're right, the Steelers will not blink when it comes to valuating talent and setting their limit. At the time they do this, as a fan, I am always "wow is meing" hoping that they get it right. Generally speaking they have a pretty good record on these roster moves.

The Steelers are considering making a trade for a veteran running back today and speculation is centered on big Atlanta back, T.J. Duckett.

Duckett (6-0, 254) has fallen out of favor under a new regime in Atlanta and the Falcons yesterday drafted his replacement, Jerious Norwood, a running back from Mississippi State on the third round.

The Steelers have only a pick in the fifth, sixth and seventh round available to trade but the Falcons want to get rid of Duckett and might take a fifth-rounder in return.

"I would take him in a minute, he's a load,'' said Ron Hill, the Falcons former director of player personnel when they drafted Duckett. "He's a great kid, too."

Duckett was drafted in the first round in 2002 from Michigan State. He rushed for 380 yards with a 3.1-yard average last season but scored eight touchdowns. His best season was 2003 when he rushed for 779 yards and 11 touchdowns. He's never had 200 carries in a NFL season.

LOL, I started this thread months ago when I first read that Duckett was officially on the trading block. There had been rumors of him being dealt to the Steelers before, but he had never been shopped by the Falcons.In the first post, I said that I can easily see the Steelers making a play for him if he's made available for the Falcons. And they did. It just wasn't enough.
