***The Super Bowl XLV Thread*** - Green Bay vs. Pittsburgh (1 Viewer)

Wow listening to all the pundits the last 2 weeks they make the Packers offense out to be the Warner led Rams teams and NE 07 team. I'm loving the Steelers in the underdog role. Packers are a very good team or they wouldn't have made this far, but they are not comparable to those teams on offense. All this talk of playing indoors really helping the Pack. They must not know that the Steelers have one of the fastest defenses in the league and have their own speed on offense. Packers are the media darling and they have not played a team as good as the Steelers this yr. They have not played a team as physical and battle tested as the Steelers.

The Packers' NFC-best pass rush (47 sacks) will line up against two tackles who weren't projected to start when the Steelers opened training camp. Worse, Pro Bowl center Maurkice Pouncey will not play (high ankle sprain), leaving backup Doug Legursky to cope with behemoth yet slippery nose tackle B.J. Raji.

It's going to be a L O N G day for big ben and steeler fans. Pack win by 10 B. J COULD BE MVP :goodposting:

GO P A C K GO :lmao:

Speaking of defense, This is about the same Steeler defemse as the 2008 version, which was largely shredded by Warner. But they will be without injured defensive end Aaron Smith (triceps), an underrated component. Plus, all-pro strong safety Troy Polamalu has not looked himself in the playoffs as he continues to play with a Achilles tendon injury.I don't think the steeler d is as good as you think

It will be an interesting game.

Will the replacements for Pittsburg (entire D line) play better than the replacements for the Packers (linebacker position)

Which QB is going to get hit more? I don't think either team is going to try to take out the opposing qb in a dirty play way, but I know both are going to try to make them feel the pain. And a qb that gets hit repeatedly is a qb that doesnt play as well.

Which WR corp will make the biggest plays? I think the team WR (counting TE) are about even skill wise. Both QB can play, but the WR have to make the catches - Which James Jones shows up today? The one that drops td passes, or the one that can catch a ball as his helmet is getting knocked off his head? If the Pack is going to win, Swain, Nelson and Jones will have to catching a lot of passes (Pitt D shuts down 1 + 2 wr, is not so good defending the 3/4/5). For Pitt I think the name your going to need to hear is Heath, plus at least one long td to Wallace.

RB Play. Mendie has to have over 100 yards. How many RB have manage that against the Pack this year? If Mendie does, expect the Steelers to win. And for the Pack? Forget Starks. The important RB is Brandon Jackson, who is going to have plenty of opportunities to demonstrate his blitz pick up skills. He does his job, Pack wins. Jackson will be on the field more than Starks (although Starks may have more rushes).

Pass Rush Defense. Big issue for both teams. Both teams are dominant pass rush teams, as well as team INTS, which is heavily influenced by the rush.

With all the hype, it will come down to who pressures the QB the most. Whatever defense gets to the opposing QB the most and disrupts their timing will win this game. Neither team will win this game rushing the football. Steeler fans may think they can, but they can't. They're not as good at rushing the football as they think. If Pittsburgh doesn't get to Rodgers, they can call it a game. If they do get to Rodgers, they will definately win the game.

Could not agree with you more.

Heard an interesting stat, Green Bay never trailed any game this season by more than 7 points. I don't know about you but I think that's pretty impressive.

Anyway I'm looking forward to a really good super bowl. I love the overs, and like some points to be scored. Green Bay 31-20

Good luck to to both teams. I'll be glad for either team to win.

I'm actually amazed that the line isn't significantly more than 3. Vegas must know something and this gives me a little bit of hope as a Steelers fan.

On ESPN.com, experts have picked 39-13 in favor of the Packers...75%

:) You do realize that Smith has been out for most of the season right?

Steelers fans: goodluck and enjoy today. I'm certain the teams playing today are the best two in the league. Now we just gotta settle one thing.
:) Cheers, good luck to you and the Packers as well.

Go ask the Jets about this.I thought I'd read that Packers were something like 18th def against the run. They definitely can be run on. We'll see if Pitt can later tonight.

This game could go either way. The Steelers got shredded by a similar offense when they faced New England, and that makes me pretty nervous. On the other hand, the Steelers should be able to run the ball effectively against Green Bay, and unless the Packers jump out to a commanding lead that should be decisive.

I think the Steelers will edge the Packers today in a very tight game, but I would not be surprised if it went the other way.

If they can take advantage of this and blow up the middle GB could create turnovers, which are almost always the key stat in any game.

I will predict that the MVP of today's game will be Rashard Mendenhall, with 120 yards and 2 TDs. Steelers win 24-20
He wont even sniff 100.
I think BJ Raji is about as important today as any Packer. If he can collapse the pocket, it is going to mean that Ben won't be able to step up to avoid Clay Matthews. If that happens, Flozell Adams will try to compensate and you'll see false starts and holding calls against him. There is a reason Dallas cut him loose. I think this is a huge thing. Then again, Big Ben is good enough to win this game for Pittsburgh no matter what happens to the oline. He scares the crap out of me because of his ability to extend plays. Can't wait. I've cast out a lot of bait in this thread, but that's part of generating discussion. I respect the Steelers organization as much as I do any organization. I feel the NFL is putting its finest product on display tonight.GO PACK GO!

Good luck Steelers fans. I'm hoping for an epic Super Bowl tonight. You have a great team - congratulations on making it this far. Nothing personal, but I hope y'all are disappointed by the outcome.

I love how everyone is making BJ Raji to be King Kong and Godzilla's offspring.

Hey cheeseheads, a bit of info for you: the Steelers play against Haloti Ngata twice a year. I know Raji is a good player, but c'mon. Settle down.

I'm perfectly calm, dude. Calmer than you are.

Dumn pundits are EVERYONE? So you listen to idiots and then tell us we all agree with them?

I'm going to throw up.
I've got nervous poops
I'm going to take some extra grocery bags with me tonight in preparation for both.
I'd advise you to double bag it, but this is not your first rodeo.
The bags are only a backup plan in case my diving wetsuit fails.
Do you have a newsletter or blog to which I can suscribe?

you are right, that D cost them the Super Bowl.. oh wait...

espn radio, fox tv. I am ok with all the cowgirls, i get it, its in Dallas

But with all the history that the steelers/packers have, you couldn't do some stuff with our great players?

A list of predictions here show predictions vary widely. SI's Peter King seems the most confident in a Steeler victory by picking them to win by 6, 33-27. SI's Jim Layden and ESPN's Mike Sando are the most confident in a Packer victory, both picking them to win by 14.

Or the fact that Polamalu has been playing about 30 yards deep in coverage the last few weeks. Certainly takes away his big play ability on the line, but there havent been too many deep plays (minus the Holmes TD). Unfortunately, I think they have to keep doing that with him in this game. So while I agree he has been quiet, it has been more scheme than anything.
