The Tea Party is back in business! (1 Viewer)

Note for Tim.

Well, since you said "please" ;) ...

I could only stand to listen to a few minutes away. But I did think the part about the House passing separate funding bills was interesting anyhow, which is why I posted it here.
Hannity is a tea party shill, you hate the tea party and yet you still tune in............

I think you may be a closet tea party supporter but are afraid to admit it. :o

I like listening to people who I disagree with much more than the ones I agree with. Hannity, though, is a special case- I normally can't stand him.

I agree with this. When I was big into following the news, this was always more enjoyable to me.

Obama won't use the 14 amendment to get around debt limit:

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-10-01/white-house-rejects-14th-amendment-to-raise-debt-ceiling.html

I think the 14th amendment is obsolete and should be canned anyways, people certainly have the right to question the public debt when there is absolutely no intention to ever pay the debt back honestly.
I agree, but mainly because I'm sick of the whole equal protection thing. It's time for this country to start discriminating again.

The GOP can't possibly win this stalemate, can they?

The government is shutdown but the ACA moves forward. If it stopped or slowed the ACA, that would be one thing. But the only thing this can do is greatly damage their party. Eventually, maybe only within a few days, the public will tire of this ploy which has nothing but a negative effect.
Per the Sean Hannity show, the latest plan by the House Republicans is to pass individual spending bills- the way they passed the one for the military last night, and then dare the Dems in the Senate to vote against. For example, they might pass a bill today which authorizes immediate spending for the national parks which would allow them to open again. If the Senate refuses, then the House can point at the Senate and say, "THEY'RE the ones who want to punish us," etc.

Hannity loves this; he's egging them on. Personally, I think this is all theater, and that Boehner is looking for a way to gracefully surrender and at the same time not lose his job. Not sure this is possible...
Hmm...This is pretty interesting. The purse strings are controlled by the House. They can do whatever the heck they want. If they are this entrenched, it could be a long, nasty battle.

Going to be a bloodbath for the RNC if they keep holding back the money. Already talk of the military football teams not being able to play due to lack of funding. #### is nothing sacred!

Ron Paul makes a good point, why is this being forced on the American public? It is pretty B.S., why can't we opt out of it?

Do you really need to ask this question? Because no would choose this turd otherwise. Why do you think Congress and the unions got waivers so they don't have to have their premiums skyrocket? If Congress can't afford Obamacare, the American people sure as hell can't.

I don't think the public are that stupid. Usually this would work if the public wasn't aware of how we got here, but they are.

R's have offered dozens of CR proposals, only to get rebuffed by the Senate time and time again. Don't those stupid republicans know that compromise means giving the democrats everything they want?
since you never attended a civics class in the fifth grade, let me help you.the legislative branch of the government passes a law, in this case ACA.

it is then sent to the executive branch for approval. the president approved and bingo now it is law.*

*SOURCE: Schoolhouse Rock "I am a Bill Cartoon"

now, if for some reason that law is thought to be unconstitutional, the judicial branch of the government then reviews and makes a ruling. the supreme court did just that, and ACA was found to be constitutional.

thus IT IS LAW.

if you want a law overturning it you have to pass a new bill, which in this case is continually rejected by the senate.

there is nothing to negotiate. there is nothing to compromise. the system is working as intended.

Good God, you are dumb.

The real problem to me is the precedent. When one side does something like this the other ups the ante later. Anyone thinking the dems would not do this to a GOP president in the future is mistaken. IT's just an escalation of the lengths the parties will go to to prove they are different from and better than the other party. If one house of congress disagrees with a law in the future this could be the template to fight it.

At some point governing has to take precedence over campaigning and establishing positions to solidify your base, if not this country cannot survive. No country lasts forever, if we do not find a way to make compromise a strength instead of a weakness we are on a path to failure.
:goodposting:

Both sides are acting like little kids. Repubs and Dems both suck balls now. It's all about the slapfight and not about bettering the nation and fixing the problems. Whole lotta stomping feet, pointing fingers, and yelling "BUT HE STARTED IT". Jackholes, the lot of em.
No no NO!!!People need to stop spewing this "both sides" crap. In this instance, the fault is SOLELY the Tea Party, and the GOP leadership which has caved to them. That's it. Not Obama, not the Democrats. This lies completely at the feet of the Republican party.
You're insufferable
And yet 100% right.

Thanks for the speech, Dad. I passed this on to the guy who works for me who has two young kids (one with special needs)and makes $50k in the 2nd highest cost of living area in the country. I'm sure he has a million in the bank though, we all do.
I don't think the government shutdown is going to last 20 years. But if it does, I sure hope he finds something else to do before the million dries up.
I would think that guys with good paying jobs without college degrees would rather not have similarly skilled but generally better educated federal employees looking for permanent replacement jobs.

I remember Obama saying if you liked your healthcare plan then nothing would change for you. That was obviously a joke since my company is no longer allowed to offer the same plan they have been offering us because it's too good of a plan. LOL. I can't believe anyone with a job and a brain supports this guy.
Anyone with a brain would ask their employer to show them the provision of the law or regulations that says they can't offer the same plan they did before.
Talked to the Insurance Company. They aren't allowed to offer that plan any longer because it provides too much coverage. Maybe the whole world is lying to me.
Again ask for the specific part of the law that states a policy can not be issued because it offers "too much coverage".
The part that say 80% (or 85% depending on size of insurance company) has to go to actual care.

Will be very interested to see the age demographics of who actually has gone and signed up after the first 30 days.

Boehner needs to end this. State, once again, why they did it and make the case against Obamacare one more time but pass along a clean CR. Right now, the stories would be about the glitches in the first day of the law, not the shutdown.

You are 100% correct about this. The Republicans have missed a golden opportunity.

Actually that will be pretty hilariously ironic if the shutdown masks the initial problems with the ACA. Triple fail... bad for GOP, doesn't stop ACA, keeps problems with ACA launch off the front page.

Dems have shut down government 7 times. So I guess they have.

Yep, Once you screw with football....you are toast.
Don't these events pay for themselves? Who is behind this decision?

This is all I could find:

A Pentagon spokesman, Army Col. Steve Warren, said the decision was being reviewed by lawyers to determine whether the funds used for such activities are congressionally appropriated.
There is a lot of stuff that pays for itself that is shut down. Consider all of the enforcement divisions in the federal government that levy fines. The IRS has also stopped conducting audits.

You thought we meant the shutdown in isolation?

Tell me about all the times the Dems have voted to stop something 40+ times, culminating in a govt shutdown? Something which has been passed into law, upheld by the supreme court, and endorsed by Americans via presidential re-election. Anything like that? That's the obsessive BS we are talking about.

Actually, most polls show that Americans do not want Obamacare. Nice attempt at twisting it though.

Alternative explanation: Because you can't have an insurance system that everyone can qualify for and choose to use whenever they get sick and injured and then choose to opt out of when they're well and healthy. But hey, that's just logic. You got turd.
What planet do you come from where you can apply for health insurance when you get sick and get immediate coverage?

Isn't the point of the furloughs is to curb spending? They take money at the gate which should cover any costs incurred and then some, it sounds more like a stunt to shift public opinion.

Just like a true liberal - move the goal posts to exclude the same exact behavior of YOUR team. Hypocrisy - there's a reason it's most commonly associated with the left.

Have the Dems come to reality and start blaming Reid for shutting down the government, yet?
Weird. They are more than willing to sit down and make compromises and exceptions for their cronies, but won't for the American people. Unusual behavior for liberals.

Also, a quote from Paul Ryan from today after a few congressmen waited at a table for Senators to show up and negotiate. This is for the people that think this isn't tied to the debt ceiling.

"Most budget agreements in the past have always involved debt limit increases," Ryan, R-Wis., said. "We think that enforcing mechanism, just like the Budget Control Act that President Obama signed before, or like Bowles-Simpson, or like Gramm-Rudman or like the 1997 or 1990 budget agreements, all of those budget agreements came together because of debt limits. That's what we think will be the forcing action to bring us - the two parties - together."

Shutdowns do not save money. The shutdowns in the 90s supposedly cost the government $1.5 billion. link

The furloughs are related to lack of appropriations, not saving money.

Exactly
You can't opt out of Social Security either. You know why? Cause its the law of the land and unless you're able to get a majority in both houses plus the President or a supermajority in both houses.

Just curious which other laws you believe you should be able to opt out of?

These guys are special. (LIBRUL!)

Not only do shutdowns not save money, in fact, per CNN, THIS shutdown will cost us a minimum of a billion per week, possibly much more.

Hey, on the upside, most of the people being furloughed will likely not be paid for the time they are off the job. I know a few people who are pretty psyched about that.
