This is what I'm talking about. Why should it matter if Republicans ended slavery, or some Republicans were for slavery, or Democrats were pro slavery? Why isn't it enough that a great social injustice was defeated?

Brother, I'm part of it. I can only tell you what it is, not change what the media tells you it is. All kinds of moths are drawn to the light. I can't be concerned with that. I have to be concerned with keeping the light going, keep it warm, and keep it inviting.

Let's just agree that we should recognize what every other developed nation in the world has, that the health and well-being of our citizens is a national priority and no one's care should be dependent on their financial situation and ability to purchase insurance coverage. Nor should one's financial future be subject to ruin because of the misfortune of falling ill or having a dependent fall ill.

The light draws moths of all kinds.

It might be that they don't feel they have anywhere else to go. Maybe they see a kinship in the underdog struggle. Again, I think we can do more by educating these people than we do by ridiculing them. We need to be the counter to people like this. Education is a marathon, not a sprint. For every Michelle Bachman you can name, I can name a Sheila Jackson Lee. Pointing at Bachman or Lee and saying "well, that party sucks because of that person" or "90% of the people that vote for that party thinks the way that person thinks" gets us nowhere. We need to attack their ideas. We need to show people the light. People drink the sand because they don't know the difference.

We see that now with the current budget deal - Democrats wanting to spend massive sums of money. Of course, Obama has talked many times about "getting our fiscal house in order". Nor did any of them give a speech in the well of the house and refer to the constitution as being 400 years old. Rep. Hank Johnson and Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee would be the thought giants who made such thoughtful remarks. All of this proves that most of our members of congress and our senators are idiots and we arent doing much to reverse that trend.
