The Tea Party is back in business! (2 Viewers)

A Republican president put his presidency on the line to end the great social injustice of slavery.

This is what I'm talking about. Why should it matter if Republicans ended slavery, or some Republicans were for slavery, or Democrats were pro slavery? Why isn't it enough that a great social injustice was defeated?

We have to become the generation of information. We have to be the generation that educates our brothers and sisters. We have to stop shouting and start talking.

Fifty years ago there was an idea revolution that we sadly lost in a cloud of cocaine and disco music. They fought against the government forcing young men against their will to fight in a war they didn't want to be a part of (unless you were one of the privileged who got a "waiver"). Today I fight against the government forcing us to purchase a commercial product we don't necessarily want or need (unless you are one of the privileged who get a "waiver"). Not exactly the same thing, obviously, but the struggle against a powerful government forcing us to do things that don't seem right will always allow us to tap into the

As much as I don't approve of the Tea Party, any discussion about abortion is irrelevant. The Tea Party is focused on economic concerns. Any criticism or praise that the deserve should be based on that as well.

Then dont push lies such as...

The Tea Party is just about limiting the size and scope of government
When we know its not true.
Brother, I'm part of it. I can only tell you what it is, not change what the media tells you it is. All kinds of moths are drawn to the light. I can't be concerned with that. I have to be concerned with keeping the light going, keep it warm, and keep it inviting.

I'm here. You know I'm a Tea Party guy. Ask me what I'm about. Don't take a second hand story. I cherish the opportunity to show you a real live Tea Party guy. I don't think I'm so bad. I'm a fiscal conservative who is a social moderate. I want whats best for my family and the country as a whole. I think a lot of people are that way, and if enough of us start having a dialogue I believe we can accomplish great things.

Thanks Tim. People give you a lot of crap, but I want to say you're a guy that really invites dialogue and dares people to educate you.

You are ##$#$ nuts. Equating the Vietnam war to the affordable healthcare act is seriously mentally deranged, just like the GOP of today.

The state is forcing women to have a medically unnecessary invasive procedure done by having wands shoved up their %$#%# in order to get perfectly legal abortion done has been championed in VA but the GOP>

The state making it law that women are to be forcibly penetrated for no medical reason is fine with the GOP of today - so much for standing for smaller government principals and all that jazz.

Amen. Let's just agree that we should recognize what every other developed nation in the world has, that the health and well-being of our citizens is a national priority and no one's care should be dependent on their financial situation and ability to purchase insurance coverage. Nor should one's financial future be subject to ruin because of the misfortune of falling ill or having a dependent fall ill.

Educate me this, you say that the Tea Party is only conserved with small government, but when the Director of the Tea Party News Network says things like the following: How are you keep defending that?

Scottie Nell Hughes is the Director of the Tea Party News Network. And as an extreme conservative, she shares the same twisted views of anti-abortion fanatics. During a July 11th appearance on Viewpoint with John Fugelsang on Current TV, Hughes said that rape victims who end resulting pregnancies should be punished in the same manner as their rapists. In other words, prison. AND, they should serve the same amount of prison time.

FUGELSANG: “Let’s say Roe v. Wade is overturned and abortion becomes illegal. If a woman is raped and she goes to a doctor, and the doctor terminates the pregnancy – Please tell me who deserves the longest jail sentence? The rapist, the doctor or the woman? In order.”
HUGHES: “Across the board.”
FUGELSANG: “All three of them?”
HUGHES: “Go for it!”

It's the make believe law!

yeah the problem with the tea party isn't the economic philosophy so much as much as it is the shear number of whackos who identify themselves as tea partiers.

Yes, it's one thing to say the Tea Party is all about economic issues, it's another to try to untangle the candidates who align with the Tea Party and also push a hard right social agenda. It's why the Tea Party candidates have failed in so many states at the state-wide level, including CO (yet still do well at the district and local level).

Again, so angry. If you're looking for someone to advocate for the GOP, there's probably plenty of people that can help you out there. I'm here to discuss the Tea Party if you'd like.

Anger will never help us bring people to the pro-choice cause. We have an ideology, they have an ideology. Let's win them over with information and love. Not anger and harsh words.

Absolutely. Those people will never gain traction with our cause because their central focus isn't on the tenets of the Tea Party.

There are also plenty of whackos who identify themselves as Democrats and Republicans too.

you're skirting around the point here, Gandhi. the problem with the tea party really is the number of extremists who identify themselves with the movement, and the danger of this is that if the tea party gets more influential then its possible that one of these whackos gets into power. Could you imagine President Michelle Bachman and her tea party led congress passing a bill to spend billions on the next Noah's Ark because she thinks the end times are coming?

The light draws moths of all kinds.

It might be that they don't feel they have anywhere else to go. Maybe they see a kinship in the underdog struggle. Again, I think we can do more by educating these people than we do by ridiculing them. We need to be the counter to people like this. Like Michael Douglas said in the American President (courtesy of imdb.com)

Lewis Rothschild: They don't have a choice! Bob Rumson is the only one doing the talking! People want leadership, Mr. President, and in the absence of genuine leadership, they'll listen to anyone who steps up to the microphone. They want leadership. They're so thirsty for it they'll crawl through the desert toward a mirage, and when they discover there's no water, they'll drink the sand.

President Andrew Shepherd: Lewis, we've had presidents who were beloved, who couldn't find a coherent sentence with two hands and a flashlight. People don't drink the sand because they're thirsty. They drink the sand because they don't know the difference.

Let's be difference makers. Let's be the information generation. When people speak like the quote you have above, we need to educate them that the person's IDEA is bad, not the party they affiliate with. I'm in the Tea Party. I'm not a robot. I didn't get programmed when I joined to believe certain things. I focus on ideas, not what party it came from. That needs to be our focus. We need to be a generation that's idea driven. This board is great in that regard. We're sharing our opinions, our thoughts, our ideas. Let's continue that, but let's do it in a positive way. I'm not angry at you if you think Charlize Theron isn't bangable. I might try to inform you why I think she is, but I wouldn't call you an idiot for not thinking so.

It won't, but the point is that the less of these extremists there are in positions of power, the better. Yeah, there are extremists in every corner, but the tea party is quickly becoming the poster child for extremist movements.

All parties have their extremists. Other parties have had a hundred years or more to establish themselves. Give us a chance brother.

There are thinking conservatives who happen to align with the Tea Party.

But 90% of people who identify themselves as Tea Party are dolts who fall prey to political soundbites and never take the time to research anything. The people who blindly believe everything Bachmann, Palin, or Alex Jones says. The people who take Glenn Beck's word for it that Obama took a picture of himself laughing while amongst a sullen crowd at a funeral, because they only listen to the radio and rarely get on the internet to actually see what happened.

According to you.

Education is a marathon, not a sprint. For every Michelle Bachman you can name, I can name a Sheila Jackson Lee. Pointing at Bachman or Lee and saying "well, that party sucks because of that person" or "90% of the people that vote for that party thinks the way that person thinks" gets us nowhere. We need to attack their ideas. We need to show people the light. People drink the sand because they don't know the difference.

The Goebbels script of the Democrat part is still in full swing, I see.

Using this opportunity to educate on what Goebbels did.

Goebbels was Hitler's Minister for Propaganda and Public Information and it was he who coordinated the Nazis' election campaign that brought Hitler to national power in January 1933.

Once in control, his goal was to "Nazify" the art and culture of Germany. Accordingly, he ordered all "un-German" books burnt on May 10, 1933. Goebbels used radio and propaganda films to win over supporters. He was also responsible for creating a cult of personality for Hitler. In November 1938, it was Goebbels' idea to exploit the murder of a German diplomat in France by a Jewish youth (Herschel Grynszpan), to stage a violent massacre against the Jews of Germany. He gave this violent outburst its cynical name Kristallnacht.

He turned the Germans against their "enemies" by creating and spreading lies and hatred. He depicted the Jews as sub-human creatures who were the Germans' greatest enemies. Goebbels thought that people would only believe lies if they were repeated often enough, and that the bigger the lie, the greater the chance it would be believed.

There you go. The "extremist" meme has been in the Democratic talking points for quite a while and they keep hammering this over and over. This fits the description exactly.

Frankly it is kind of scary when fiscal restraint is viewed as extremist. Yet spending like there is no bottom to that bucket is regarded as normal. We see that now with the current budget deal - Democrats wanting to spend massive sums of money. Of course, Obama has talked many times about "getting our fiscal house in order". This one has now fallen down the list of big lies just because so many others have shot up.

Some of your examples are nutty, but to be honest, those things that Cruz has talked about have been spot on. That's what scares Democrats about this guy - he's been outspoken in a very intelligent way and has been knocking it out of the park.

Exactly. Democrats define "extreme" as anyone who doesn't follow the party line.

And it's funny, if you think about, that guys like FSM and BigSteelThrill calling others "extreme". If you're on these boards long enough, you'll realize these guys are the ones so far left that they border on Communism.

Thats not the scary parts and you know it. That's the sheeps clothing they are wearing.
And you're lying thru your teeth, as usual, and making stuff up. You're scared that there is actually someone out there who doesn't believe in the "extreme" left ideology you do.

You know nothing of the Tea Party other than what's fed to you by your liberal masters.

Ryan's comments come on the heels of indications by Speaker John Boehner's (R-OH) office and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) that Republicans won't agree to raise the debt limit -- the congressionally mandated limit on how much debt the federal government can incur -- without [Obamacare] policy add-ons. The House budget chief provided the first indication of what Republicans might conceivably ask for in exchange for a debt limit increase.
:lmao:

Seriously, I laughed out loud. They truly believe their own bull####.

"We gotta get something."

Congressional Republicans are showing little stomach for another bruising fight over the U.S. debt limit next month, but they do want to extract some concessions in exchange for expanding the Treasury's borrowing authority. A senior Republican aide said that the party's leaders in the Republican-controlled House of Representatives are in "listening mode" and seeking ideas from rank-and-file lawmakers.

The options range from demands for expanded offshore energy production to small tweaks in President Barack Obama's healthcare law to approval of the Keystone XL oil pipeline.

The GOP has its share of loons. But I dont think any of them were sitting in the House of Representatives wondering aloud if Guam would capsize if we station more Marines there. Nor did any of them give a speech in the well of the house and refer to the constitution as being 400 years old. Rep. Hank Johnson and Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee would be the thought giants who made such thoughtful remarks. All of this proves that most of our members of congress and our senators are idiots and we arent doing much to reverse that trend.

Yeah, crazy-### pastors.

I mean would we ever want someone who followed an extremist hokum preacher to be in a position of power in this country?

As reported recently by the New York Post, Wright told a seminar he taught at the University of Chicago that Jews control the flow of worldwide information and oppress blacks in Israel and in the United States.
“White folk done took this country,” Wright said. “You’re in their home, and they’re gonna let you know it.” Addressing blacks in his class, Wright said, “You are not now, nor have you ever been, nor will you ever be, a brother to white folk. And if you do not realize that, you are in serious trouble.”
“It was always about becoming white . . . to master what [they] do.” He added, “We probably have more African-Americans who’ve been brainwashed than we have South Africans who’ve been brainwashed.”

Thank god the GOP cleaned up the crazies.
