The Top 300 Greatest TV Shows of All Time: FBG Consensus: 50 Lists received. 2: Seinfeld 1: Breaking Bad (10 Viewers)

WTF. Roseanne easy top 30 show of all time if not higher. One of four shows I own the box set, more my wife than me but this show still funny till this day. My parents came over the end of last year and we were watching some old shows on Cozi and my father is dying of laughter. He turns to me and says I can’t believe I never watched this show when it was first run. It’s hysterical. Yes it is.
I would be curious to see polls on each of these shows. It would be interesting to see who has even seen them or what % they watched.
Yeah I guess it’s a tough exercise here but I mean I can only think of two sitcoms the past 40 years I’d rank higher and I’ll assume both will be top 25 shows. Queens gambit was mentioned recently and I mean I loved that show would give it a solid 9 out of 10 but it was all of what 10 episodes? Wayyyyy too few to be considered imho but recency bias for sure. I dunno
I've maybe seen a couple episodes, which is why i posted that. I could also see Roseanne Barr grating on people.
Many of the crew that worked on that show apparently despised her. I've talked to two people who worked on it - one was a writer and I can't recall what the other did - that said she was a nightmare to deal with. Bill Cosby had the same rep.

That said, I thought the show was really funny. I haven't seen every episode (I bowed out in the later years), but have seen most/all of the first few seasons.
I wonder what George Clooney would say about working with Roseanne? He seems to be universally liked and doesn't speak ill of anyone.

Didn't submit a list but have been lurking eagerly awaiting a few shows. This was one of them which I would have most likely ranked top 20. I have rewatched it twice and recommend it to anyone I can. Fantastic characters, smart writing, funny and also touching at its core.

Had it on my consideration list. Funny, watched it all. But just once. Definitely worth a view for standard comedic fare with an interesting premise and great cast.
It sounded right up my alley, but for some reason it never really caught me.
Enjoyed the first season, didn’t think I needed more of it.

I was the opposite - sounded like something that would annoy me to no end but I found it absolutely hilarious. I think I might have over-ranked it, but if I come across reruns (with no swear filter) I likely won't change the channel.
Watched a couple episodes initially, and was wasn't super impressed. Kept hearing everyone rave about it. Knew the cast was great. Fired it up again, and got into it. It's a good show.....not great. The banter between David and Stevie is pretty awesome.

Agreed. I do think it went downhill when they made little Andrew and Mallory's doofus boyfriend Nick prominent parts of the show, but it was consummate '80s watching back in the day. And yes, Fox was sensational - the very special episode where his best friend (who came out of nowhere) died, and Alex was having intense survivor's guilt, is the stuff of legends.

No, she did, but it was just incredibly easy to get her stirred up when it came to politics. One time my sister and I played a joke and got her a life size carboard cutout of GWB. That was something...

Sometimes I'm glad she's not around to see the current political climate.

Mindhunter - if I could magically give 1 more season to any show, it might be this one, especially considering the abrubt ending

Schitt’s Creek - i enjoyed it, but didn’t even consider it for my rankings

Family Ties - I wanted find room for it, but i probably haven’t watched an episode in 30+ years and felt I’d just be picking it for the sake of nostalgia. Also only a few limited scenes come to mind.

Hannibal may be, from a technical perspective, possibly the peak of the One-Hour Network Broadcast Drama form. It was a prestige-cable-drama made on a fading network-TV budget. The quality of the writing, directing, acting, production design, even down to the props and wardrobe, was top-notch. HBO or Netflix would have spent hundreds of millions but somehow NBC got it done for pennies (and still managed to lose money on it). Nothing else on ABC, NBC, CBS, or FOX had ever looked as good as Hannibal, and nothing has since. As the networks have given way to streaming services we may never again see anything of this quality on the free airwaves.

Agree with everything but it's a tough watch for me. I am not sure why. It's not the gore or suspense but maybe it's the immense conflict of the main guy (not Hannibal). It just is tough to watch. Because of that I didn't rank it.

Seemed like there was always some xylophone or something dinging and donging in the background too, I just found the background music distracting

Hannibal went the same exact route as Grim for me. Watched 1st season of both and like them. Then I just stopped. No explanation.

Only Julia Louis-Dreyfus's immense talent enabled her to wash that filth off and not kill her career early on
She and Matthew Perry appeared in a lot of dreck before landing their defining roles.
I remember first seeing JLD on the show Day by Day with Courtney Thorne-Smith and the dude who played Greg Brady in The Brady Bunch Movie(s).

Before Friends, Matthew Perry was probably most known for Carol's boyfriend on Growing Pains who died in a car crash while driving drunk (apologies for the spoiler).

The problem with network sitcoms is that it is almost impossible to have watched every show and unlike todays 6-8-12 episode series, quality slipped because of volume rather than anything else.
Family Ties was must watch TV, purely on the back of Michael J Fox who was just magnetic on screen.

Right - most shows back then were regularly 20+ episodes, so it was a marathon to stay with them, and if you missed an episode and didn't tape it, you had to time it right during summer reruns or you were SOL.

Amazing show on so many levels. Light years ahead of anything else NBC was doing and yet the network showed it no respect; minimal advertising and moving the timeslot around.
