(Obviously) One of my favorite shows ever. I have watched it several times in just the few years since it came out.
It was really enjoyable and Anya Taylor Joy really commands the screen.
It is very difficult to make a show about Chess interesting enough for the masses, but they did a great job.

Probably my wife’s favorite show, and obviously I rated highly too. We still watch the reruns every Saturday

I don’t think any show captures what life was like as a blue collar midwestern family in the 90s better than this.

It definitely goes off the rails in the final season or two, but at its peak it’s a great mix of comedy and drama
My wife loves this too. One of my very last cuts

For people who remember Kids in the Hall fondly, they made a new season in 2022 on Prime that still made me laugh. More male nudity than I expected.

We had a few tapes of KITH marathons that we’d pop in the dorm lounge TV late at night. It was fun to watch as a group, and quotes from it were a pretty big chunk of our vocabulary.

I really liked this but had a hard time ranking limited series - which are basically just long movies.
This was a rare limited series that i thought felt too long. I remember liking the first few episodes, but got a tad bored of it after that.

It's the RT scores (reviewers/popular).

124 - The Jeffersons
I saw an interview with the actor who played Ralph the Doorman (Ned Wertimer) and he said that in the scenes he did with Sherman Hemsley where he was fishing for a bigger tip, his goal was to make Hemsley break character and burst out laughing.

Wertimer said he would get yelled at by the director for slowing down production, but it was worth it to see Sherman laugh.

Wow, I’m really falling behind in my commentary …

119 Roseanne - watched it a lot when it came out but didn’t even make my working list of ~ 125 … not sure why

120 Queens’s Gambit - fantastic limited series but didn’t quite make the cut for the few limited series that I was considering

123 The Kids in the Hall - pretty high on my list and had me busting a gut like only few others

124 The Jeffersons - just missed the cut and wish it hadn’t for no other reason that George reminded me of my favorite uncles (RIP)

125 The Office UK - was a great show but was almost painfully cringey at times … to the degree that it didn’t make the cut

126 Moonlighting - totally forgot about it and it might have snuck on to the list

129 The Last Of Us - love end of the world shows/movies … big fan

130 The Crown - totally spaced on this one … would have been in the 30s or 40s for sure

131 The Last Kingdom - sucker for these historical action/dramas regardless of how true to history they are

133 Reservation Dogs - haven’t seen but on my list

134 Northern Exposure - liked it enough but never really thought of it as must watch tv

135 The Price is Right - never reallly considered any gameshows

136 Severance - probably would have made the cut if I watched the new season before my submission

137 The White Lotus - see above

My wife really likes the Jeffersons. Really good theme song and it makes me laugh but between not having watched that much of it and being mostly in diffrent it didn't make my list.

haven't watched kids in the hall.

haven't seen narcos

I might have seen a few episodes of deep space 9

haven't seen queens gambit

Seen a few episodes of roseanne and didn't care much

The running theme is that show quality dips the longer a show runs. I think it's mostly due to a show running out of ideas. Tell your story and be done with it. 3-4 seasons is likely that sweet spot. From a network or a producers standpoint, it's hard to get off the gravy train.

I originally watched the first few years of the show when it started in '88, and it was always good for some laughs, but my fondest memories of this show is from just a few years ago when my grandmother was in a nursing home. She was there for almost 6 years, and she lived to be 98. I'd come see her on Saturdays often, and TVLand always had Roseanne marathons going on. We would watch episode after episode and laugh. It wasn't just smiles either, she would belly laugh out loud. It's a great memory from that time.

That's just it, especially for the network shows that just milk them until the ratings dip. Great for revenue, but not for the story.

Syndication isn't as lucrative as it once when TV shows with over 100 episodes were money making machines. Streamers don't pay nearly as well as OTA and cable channels used to but things have improved slightly since the WGA and SAG took action.

I think it depends on the setting, characters, etc. and how they affect you. There are some shows I just did not want to end and still wish there was more. Almost to the point where I would still watch if the cast was just reading the phone book.

For me personally, this only applies to shows that don't have a continuous story arc.

WTF. Roseanne easy top 30 show of all time if not higher. One of four shows I own the box set, more my wife than me but this show still funny till this day. My parents came over the end of last year and we were watching some old shows on Cozi and my father is dying of laughter. He turns to me and says I can’t believe I never watched this show when it was first run. It’s hysterical. Yes it is.

Hey, wait... I was surprised I had Letterkenny at #1 for a reason... I ranked it #3. Something's off on the spreadsheet.

I would be curious to see polls on each of these shows. It would be interesting to see who has even seen them or what % they watched.

Yeah I guess it’s a tough exercise here but I mean I can only think of two sitcoms the past 40 years I’d rank higher and I’ll assume both will be top 25 shows. Queens gambit was mentioned recently and I mean I loved that show would give it a solid 9 out of 10 but it was all of what 10 episodes? Wayyyyy too few to be considered imho but recency bias for sure. I dunno

I've maybe seen a couple episodes, which is why i posted that. I could also see Roseanne Barr grating on people.

Right. I totally glossed over your point but it was spot on. That was why my father didn’t watch the show on first run. He watched a lot of television but hated Roseanne. She’s super polarizing even to this day I mean she was kicked off her own show! All good looking forward to the rest of the countdown.

I'm stealing this format from Atomic Punk:

119 Roseanne - I honestly forgot about this show when I made my list. It would have been top 100, but not sure about top 70.

120 Queens’s Gambit - I didn't love it, didn't hate it. It was fine, but not memorable and nothing I would want to watch for a second time.

121 Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - I only had room for one Star Trek on my list and this wasn't it.

122 Narcos - 40th in my rankings. This may have been the first Netflix show that made me understand what "binging" was. I rarely watch two episodes of any show back to back, but I was hitting "next episode" like a junkie. As much as I loved the original, I thought there was a big dropoff for Narcos Mexico.

123 The Kids in the Hall - 38th in my rankings, but that seems really high now. Seeing this on my list makes me wonder why I didn't include Mr. Show with Bob and David.

124 The Jeffersons - 24th in my rankings. I loved this show as a kid. George was like a real life Donald Duck. I laugh harder at this show today than I did when it aired.

125 The Office UK - I don't enjoy Ricky Gervais at all and I did not enjoy the UK version.

126 Moonlighting - I thought about including it, but ultimately I couldn't remember much about any of the episodes or anything else other than the 4 main characters worked really well together.

127 Lonesome Dove - I consider this more of a movie broken up into 4 parts, so even though it was on TV, I didn't really consider it a TV show.

128 Sportscenter - I would have picked NFL Primetime or This Week in Baseball if I was going to go with a sports show, but I didn't pick any sports or news type shows.

129 The Last Of Us - 44th in my rankings. I almost gave up on this show, but glad I stuck it out. I love SHTF shows and I enjoyed this one.

130 The Crown - My wife loved it, I only partially watched one or two episodes.

131 The Last Kingdom - I loved the first couple of seasons when Alfred was a main part of the story. I lost interest somewhere in the last season and never finished it. I just learned that Seasons 1-3 had a different writer than seasons 4 and 5, so I guess I just didn't like the second writer as much.

133 Reservation Dogs - haven’t seen but on my list

134 Northern Exposure - I maybe watched it once or twice but it made no lasting impression on me.

135 The Price is Right - 28th in my rankings. One of my favorite shows ever, I've easily wasted over a thousand hours of my life watching this show. I scheduled my college classes so that my 11:00 hour was free. Any show that has a catch phrase that became part of our nation's vocabulary deserves to be on this list, and "Come on down!" or "Don't forget to have your pets spayed or neutered" are iconic. But my god, this show became unwatchable when Bob retired and Drew Carey took over. I can't watch 10 minutes of it anymore.

136 Severance - I seriously considered it, but I haven't seen season 2 yet. Knowing there was the possibility that they dropped the ball on season 2, I couldn't vote for it yet. I'm glad to read that season 2 is supposed to be just as good, if not better, than 1.

137 The White Lotus - I watched about 30 minutes and just couldn't get into a show with a bunch of entitled characters that I didn't really want to care about.

Yep. The first time I saw her on Carson, I found her funny. Then I realised she was always going to sound like that. ANd I noped on out. I just couldn't do it. That sucked all the funny out of everything.

Many of the crew that worked on that show apparently despised her. I've talked to two people who worked on it - one was a writer and I can't recall what the other did - that said she was a nightmare to deal with. Bill Cosby had the same rep.

That said, I thought the show was really funny. I haven't seen every episode (I bowed out in the later years), but have seen most/all of the first few seasons.

I imagine Roseanne would be hard to work with since she has multiple personality/dissociative identity disorder. Your basically working with a lot of different people within the same body, and a personality can switch to another in the blink of an eye. She also co-created the show, and was one of the writers, and being that she is very opinionated and an alpha, I reckon she had "a lot to say" on the set. She had good relationships with her co-stars until the fallout during the reboot. Some distanced themselves from her, but John Goodman didn't. That doesn't mean he agreed with what she said and did, but he loves his friend, and he had her back and still does.

Her nasally/whiny voice is not pleasant on the ears, but I can get past it. I find the character of Roseanne Connor funny, and I tuned in for the funny. Her character has always been my favorite on the show.

Per Wiki:

In 1994, Roseanne announced that she had dissociative identity disorder caused by childhood abuse. She had personalities named Baby, Cindy, Evangelina, F**ker, Heather, Joey, Kevin, Nobody, Somebody, and Susan as well as her main personality, Roseanne. By 2001, she claimed the personalities had mostly fused into one after 10 years of therapy.

Uhtred son of Uhtred brother of Uhtred friend of Uhtred from the town of Uhtred is one of my wife’s favorite TV characters.

I’m not sure quite why - I’m assuming it’s the great acting and historical accuracy.
This is the right tone to take with the show.
As mentioned, I love historical dramas and this has several great dramatic moments.
But ultimately its a bunch of poppycock. There were multiple laugh out loud moments that werent intended.
Vikings was much grittier.
I've been trying to get into Vikings. Hasn't hooked me like The Last Kingdom did. I will revisit though.

Had it on my consideration list. Funny, watched it all. But just once. Definitely worth a view for standard comedic fare with an interesting premise and great cast.
It sounded right up my alley, but for some reason it never really caught me.

I was the opposite - sounded like something that would annoy me to no end but I found it absolutely hilarious. I think I might have over-ranked it, but if I come across reruns (with no swear filter) I likely won't change the channel.

(Obviously) One of my favorite shows ever. I have watched it several times in just the few years since it came out.
It was really enjoyable and Anya Taylor Joy really commands the screen.
It is very difficult to make a show about Chess interesting enough for the masses, but they did a great job.
A really great watch…..in my top 100.

Vikings starts slow….just stick with it….it gets crazy.

We love The Last Kingdom. My wife actually has a tee shirt that says and I quote:

I rather be drinking ale with Uthred son of Uthred in Bebebier.
