The value of the fantasy QB (1 Viewer)

I was thinking...

What is the value of having a top 5 QB on your fantasy squad? Is it more valuable than a top 5 WR?

IMO QB's are more consistents and easier to play matchups. On the other hand, WR are more inconsistents, so a top WR is harder to find and consequently more valuable.

For instance, who would you rather have:

Romo, Manning, Cutler, Rivers....

or

Marshal, Steve Smith, Owens, Fitz....

I would rather a top WR in the names you mentioned, but I wouldnt mind having both you know.

Steve Smith should not be in this convesation. He is not a top 5 WR,

Heck, I've got Romo, Owens and Marshall, and felling pretty happy about it I might add.But to answer your question, I'll take the top five QB. There's a ton of value you can find at WR at nearly any point in the draft. Same cannot be said for a productive QB. A far lesser pool to choose from as well.

Disagree. What rounds were Cutler and River taken?

Not to mention Rodgers...who has a fair shake of finishing top 5.

He is not right now. But by the end of the season he will probably be.

It's not a matter of who I can get...Romo is great but if I can drop off to Rodgers and pick up the points elsewhere I'm all for it. As a general rule, I don't draft qb's early but once the draft is over imo it's imperitive to have an elite qb. They score by far more points than any other position.

QBs score more points than any other position, but elite QBs don't score a whole lot more than average QBs.

Define "average QBs"If you mean average of all 32 starting QBs on a given week, you are dead wrong. If you mean average of the top-24, you are pretty much wrong. If you mean averege of the typical group of starting QBs in normal leagues, which means the average scored by the top-12 fantasy QBs, then you are correct.

Cutler, Marshall, Owens here. Started 0-1, made a trade acquiring CutMar (I'm coining the combo's nickname because owners of both will win superbowls at a high rate) and haven't lost since, even with Westbrooks .5 last week.

In leagues with 6pt TD's for QBs, it is essential to have a top QB. Since most leagues start at least 2 WR, having a top WR is less important because the point dropoff between a top player and an average starter is less, and it is easier to find a startable WR off the waiver wire than a startable QB.

The key here really is to have both, but I'd take a top QB over a top WR. I took a QB early for the first time in 7 years this season (Romo in 3rd) since the last 2 years I waited and got really bad QB's. Obviously the Shark would wait and find the top 5 guy late but I'm not good at that.

Maybe I got lucky this year, but I have Romo and Rodgers so I'm looking to sell one of them for an upgrade at WR.

In a dynasty league I prefer an elite QB.

In redraft, I'll generally go for the elite WR, but our pre-season elite WRs haven't exactly played like it.

That pretty much forces your hand.I'm usually pretty comfortable waiting a few rounds for a top-10 QB, and loading up on WR/RB early. I targeted Cutler (he went two picks before I was ready to grab him) and Rodgers, but ended up with Warner to pair with Peterson/Marshall/Megatron.

This year there were fewer sure bets at QB, so it made sense to take one early. Even still, anyone who ended up with Cutler in the fifth round should be sitting pretty.
