The Vikings are one of the worst coached teams, yes/no? (1 Viewer)

I'm not a big Childress fan, though he has come a long way from his rigid philosophies to much more of an effective players coach the last few years. I don't think there is any question that Favre made him look good and one of Childress' biggest knocks is that he was a QB developer that stubbornly locked into Tavaris which never really panned out. But your post doesn't really show anything because he's always been closed off with the media which doesn't say anything about his coaching, and the offense wasn't "a mess" when Favre arrived because they hadn't even started the season when he arrived and were coming off a division title the prior year.
Fair enough Bill but many in the media felt the Vikes were better than just winning a division title that year and also felt they did it despite Chidress. His plan since he arrived has been to work with Tavaris. He's had ample time and there were plenty of QBs they could have gone after this past off season. Colin was tearing him apart after he said the players were not concerned with Favre not being there(lunch, hydration, etc)...he made it seem like there was nothing to discuss. I realize coaches can be like that but Colin went on to talk about how Childress denied any talks with Favre last year and then got in the car to go pick him up at the airport...it just strikes me as funny and perhaps to others.

And I am only going on what Trent said on the radio...Colin used the words genious and Trent in the same sentence on air so you can take that for what it's worth but I did feel Trent was credible in what he was saying, it wasn't just fluuff or salt n pepper for the radio. Coming out of the 2008 season, what was the Vikings' identity on offense? I would say it was questionable.
I insta-ignore anything Trent Dilfer says. No good reason, just don't like his media personality.

Evidence of Chilly's poor coaching continues with Favre, as the issue of control during games was breached last year, the complete sacrifice of all control of the QB position to wait on Favre puts the whole team in limbo. That's not all on Chilly, but he and everyone else find that to be a fair trade off for the possibility of a SB run.

According to a report from Yahoo Sports' Jason Cole, Brett Favre's "disdain for [coach Brad] Childress is deep."Analysis: The two had it out on the sidelines last year, so this is no surprise. "Brett thinks Childress has no clue about offense," a Vikings player said. Chilly is reportedly coming under fire in the Vikes locker room after telling players and assistants to lie about the recent recruiting trip of Ryan Longwell, Steve Hutchinson, and Jared Allen. "Chilly can't even tell the truth about that," another player said. "I mean, how ridiculous is that? What's the big deal that he has to lie? Worse, he has to tell other guys to lie for him?"

Well Brett Favre is right. Childress has no clue about the offense. Reminds me of a clip I saw last year of Favre and Rice standing on the sideline next to Childress and Favre is telling Childress "they can't cover him"(Rice) Childress says "You keep saying that" and Favre replies "Yeah but now you're starting to believe me" lol.

I've always read what an offensive genius Childress was but pretty much any football fan can predict what the guy is going to do offensively if they are paying attention. Last year was different but I think a lot of that had to do with Favre and I was happy with that. I know Chilly wasn't and I heard that in his press conferences when he would make his little remarks about players following the game plan and what not. But then why go out and heavily recruit Favre again? I think it's because he knows that without Favre he can't do it alone. Deep down inside I think that's part of it.

Think I'm wrong? I'm going to predict the first offensive play from scrimmage for every single game the Vikings play this year right now. Peterson up the middle. Hasn't changed for 2 years, won't change this year.

I know that Jason Cole piece fits with what a lot of people around here think of Childress, but the fact is that Favre had one of his best seasons playing in Childress' offense.

I'll go out on a limb and say that Childress didn't tell Favre to throw back across his body into the middle of the field at the end of regulation in New Orleans.

When I watch vikings games, the coaching is eerily similar to the current Singletary regime in SF... It's the same formula, run the ball relentless regardless of result in the 1st half. When they eventually fall behind by 7+, they start chucking the ball around and come back only to eventually come up short in the end.

I used to wonder if it was because favre just isn't as sharp this year, but after that decision to just run out the clock against GB right before the half, I'm convinced that Childress is just too conservative for his own good.
