"The Voice" , new singing talent search show (2 Viewers)

Nick won it. I mean he won't win, Cassaddee will, but Nick should. Cass just does the same thing over and over, albeit really, really well. Terry did not have a great night.

While I wish Amanda was still in it, I have to give NBC a little credit for otherwise getting the three best singers into the finals.

[*]Cassadee has a great voice, but there is zero chance I'll ever buy one of her songs. Won't be surprised if she wins.

[*]Terry - if not perfect, he's at least near flawless. I don't think he will win, but I hope he has a long, interesting singing career. I think Blake did him a great disservice with the material. Bryan Adams was :X

[*]Nicolas - a gem. I hope he wins and I look forward seeing what he does outside of the cover-band format. Pretty sure he will eventually find his way to my ol' iPod.

And in case NBC is looking for a new judge - amazing, incredible, and awesome are all words in my vocabulary.

I completely agree with your assessment. I would love to see Nick do a cover album to gain more notoriety with those who don't watch the Voice. Him bringing the classics to 2013 is alright with me. I thought the preview to next season was hilarious! I'm glad to see Christina go but will miss Ceelo.

>>>>[icon] - Your buddy been on yet?
CONFIRMED he is trying for next season. He actually just called me the other day from out in LA (I guess they get their phones at some points). He said it's been a real trip. They have them put up in big ### 1300 sq ft suites all at the same hotel. Said there is just an insane amount of talent strolling around (both musical and eye candy)... and they're not allowed to say anything about why they're there. IF they do... Gone. You can't leave the premises. There is a 9:30pm curfew and NO booze or drugs. If you get caught. Gone. IF you get booted.. you're on the hook for your flights, your food, your room (+$1000/night)...everything. There were a LOT of idiots getting booted/caught for anything from having a glass of wine with dinner, to ordering pot brownies from a dispensary to be delivered to the hotel. :lmao:

He said it's a pretty crazy mind-#### regarding "Room 819" (The cut Room). There are guys walking around with headsets that will walk up to people at any point in time telling you to "Go to room 819". That means you're toast... and you best hurry. Often your flight is departing within an hour or so. Miss it and you're on the hook for the tab to get home. Sometimes they'll call you in the middle of the night. Sometimes it's a slip of paper under the door.... he said everyone was on edge. The final audition was 90 seconds in front of the producers and other show bigwigs. It's uber-sterile. No applause. Dark room with candles. You get no hint from them where you stand for days... mind####.

I still can't say who he is whether he made it or not for obvious reasons. but I will say that the show went from 70k people trying out... to 205 flying out to LA....cut to 100 that made blind auditions.
All that for a singing competition?UPDATE:

My buddy is back in town for a bit. NBC sent a TV Crew out to film my buddy playing at BB Kings two Sunday's ago. He flies back to LA after the Premier in March. Apparently I guess they are done pre-filming the segments at this point. The fact that the sent a crew out to his hometown to do a "segment" on him is a good sign IMO.... we all had to sign TV waivers and #### like that.

TV Cameras all up in his #### >

Gotta get some footage of the wife (can only see her face... behind the girl in green).

Some Side Stage video (not the best) from that evening >

According to my buddy they have a private FB group among the 150 or so folks who got flown out to LA where they all keep in touch. Apparently there was a poll among those folks as to who would make the top 10.... and who would make the final 3 or whatever. Apparently he's the frontrunner in both polls. Now this is only a poll among contestants so it means jack and ####... but still cool to know.

 for this season to start

Ya don't say? ;) very much an off night here... keep in mind he had taught himself electric guitar off youtube a little over two years prior to this shooting. :lmao: Some 15 months later he's headlining ~300 gigs a year up and down Beale street, taking entertainer of the year honors and being invited to blues festivals all over north america. :fingerscrossed:

As an aside... this is an older video of Pat jamming with another buddy, Grant Garland, who is to this day in the running for the most talented mother####er I've ever seen live... guitar is his 3rd instrument behind piano and saxophone. Just sick Grant Garland going the #### off on a marc Broussard tune with Patrick Dodd (60lbs heavier) singing backup. :excited:
Awesome. Wife hooked me on The Voice a couple seasons ago and absolutely love everything about the show. Will be rooting for your buddy. Also, a girl at my wife's work is apparently in the final running for auditions, so I've got a couple folks I'm rooting for. Either way, great show, and looking forward to the new season.

Today the Social Media coordinator for the show had all people who auditioned change their FB Cover Shots to this and they are now allowed to openly say that they "auditioned" for the show. At this point that is all they're allowed to say. Interesting approach...

Tonight's the night... Season Premiere. Never been this stoked for a cheesy reality singing show before :lmao:

Buddy's official publicity "photo"

I'm 99% sure he won't be on tonight's episode as they're supposed to give him a few days notice. Just went to see him jam last night as part of a "going away" gig to send him off. He flies out Wednesday to head back to LA to resume filming of the show. They'll be flying his wife and daughters out after easter as well. Word on the street is he may be doing Ray Lamontagne and/or Adelle covers in the next round of filming

Another pic from last night with Dr Fangaz (aka Chris Stephenson) on keys. Landon Moore (also with Fast Planet) on bass.

Dying to see how he does....

I'm not sure if Shakira has much credibility as a singer/coach. I would never choose to be on her team if I had other options.

I know very little about her, but it is possible that some of the young girls who want to be pop stars may want to go with her. It is a little annoying that they felt they had to replace a black guy and a blonde girl with a black guy and a blonde girl. I think Usher could do very well with this. No idea about Shakira.

That's awesome [icon]Best of luck to him!

so does he choose shelton or levine?
He won't tell me that... hasn't even told his wife or bandmates. I do know Shakira was one of the people who turned around for him. My guess is if Blake turned he went with him based on some other stuff he's told me but I don't have any direct info on that.

Dunno but judging by his giddiness over it and his wife's comments I suspect he gets a very favorable response.

Judith is phenomenal and could well win it all. Sick talent. I think little country girl is cute but will likely lack breadth/range where more powerful/experienced singers like Judith (and my buddy pat) will have an edge. We shall see though!

Appreciate the good vibes.

Dynamics between the judges are way better than last season and light years better than the other talent show.

I miss CeeLo and Christina. Shakira is overrated imo and I don't really care for Usher. I don't care for the dynamics this season between the judges. I was laughing season's before but tonight I'm like   with their comments.

i was quite under-whelmed with the contestants last night. even the little country girl and the chick at the end were sort of meh...

i'm looking forward to seeing one of the contestants that was in a group called "delilah" that was on the "sing-off" show a couple of years back. she can wail...

:goodposting: Completely agree and it's one of the reasons I like the show so much.
:goodposting: Christina was a toad and CeeLo was a caricature of himself. Big improvement from the 1-2 episodes I've seen in the past.
I like both of them as judges. Christina gives blunt criticism, and picks songs that play to her players strengths, and CeeLo has great imagination, and his players generally give entertaining performances. I like the two new judges this year, too, but I don't think they are better than Christina and CeeLo.

First time watching this show, mainly cause Icon got my intrigue and I'd like to see his buddy go far. I wasn't very impressed last night, the girl who sang last night seemed like she was quite a bit better then the other singers.

My question is, how many singers make it to the "blind auditions"? I think Icon mentioned 100 in one of his posts? Will we see all 100's auditions? How many people will end up with each judge?

The girl who sang as a duet with MJ should win. I don't even need to see anybody else. She was amazing last night and even better with MJ in the This Is It rehearsals. No need to watch now other than the chance of Shakira dancing on stage.

They flew out something like 400 to LA but only 100 got to blind audition. Only 48 (I think) will get on teams. It seems they are showing mostly successes and skipping or skimming (short 20 sec clip) the denials. But I'm no expert.... my first season really watching this show. been texting back and forth with my buddy a lot over the last week and he's just blown away. Memphis has really jumped behind him in support. There are something like half a dozen bars hosting watch parties for the shows in his name... the GF and I were joking that our facebook feeds are 60-70pct discussion about him and such.... his FB music page is rapidly gaining followers. It's pretty cool to see.

It's also kinda funny seeing ####loads of folks coming out of the woodwork talking about how they used to go see him 15-20 years ago (but haven't been supporting him for the last decade). May run out to his house to watch tonight's episode with he and his wife since he's flying out tomorrow... will see. Working with him on his website today. I really hope he gets to audition tonight... gonna suck to wait another week.

She is extremely talented.. no doubt. Told my buddy this morning that she'll be a tough out but nobody else from last night posed any threat to him.

The only thing I find unfair about the competition is the people that have had a record deal or were a back-up singer with some star previously. I'd prefer to see the diamond in the rough people. Sounds like after she sang at MJ's funeral she had people calling her already for record deal. So why does she need to be on the show if that is the case...oh wait it is just a PR thing. Now we'll hear for 3 months about her and MJ and how much she misses him, etc.

I know what you are saying, but that is really the niche of the show and the majority of contestants do have pro experience, so more level - unless you are one of the few high school kids. It is about second Idol more unfair because it pd chances vs discovery. I don't mind it because, (1) better singers!, and (2) there are plenty of other shows like Idol and X Factor for that.

Interesting. Just got off the phone with pat and he said there were 4-5 people that the majority of the 48 who made it felt were the "weak links"... they weren't expected to get on teams but they did. Apparently pretty much those folks were all on last night (aside from Judith of course). Not sure why they did that but expect the level of talent tonight to be SIGNIFICANTLY better.

I like the judges better this year. Prefer less of their side show. I don't like the editing done. I'd prefer to see much more singing and less of the back stories. Let the viewers decide who is best and who we want to know more about instead of forcing it down our throats.

Each judge has a roster of 12 to start with. I think that last girl last night is for sure in the mix to win it all.

You don't do all of the things she has done in the past to not even be in the mix for winning IMO.

No doubt. Wife and I watch it on DVR and fast forward through everyone's: I'm doing this for mom, I used to be an alocholic, my Dad has cancer, I lost my child, etc. It gets old when every contestant has a sob story. Because you will hear it for 4 months with every time they perform.
