I was thinking the same thing this weekend. My conclusion is no, I don't think the show will get cancelled after this year so let's agree there will be a season 4. At the rate they are going, I can't see the showrunners landing this thing with anything short of 7-8 seasons and I just don't see it.

Really enjoying this season, as season 2 was about 10x better than season 1, season 3 is equally 10x better than 2 IMO. I've never read the books (bought Eye of the World years ago but everyone always talked about how much of a slog the middle books in the series are so never got around to starting it) so I am sure the changes are still frustrating to longtime fans. I did finally start the audiobook weeks ago but it is looong. At least Rosamund Pike does a good job on the narration, I actually think she plays the character differently on the show than she voices her from the book. The $ amazon puts into the F/X and the production values this year versus the first two seasons really shows, hopefully this continues to be supported like @foxco said.

Really enjoying season 3. Mat is starting to develop as a character and I hope they pull it off. By far my favorite character of the books. Though not sure why they change his fight scene with the brothers from books but glad they kept the concept of it in.

I have not been keeping up with this thread, but I had to find it and say that I enjoyed the hell out of the Goldeneyes episode.

Episode was excellent, even with the
the surprise death of Loial. Really liked that character and it's a departure from the books from what I've read online. In battles like this there have to be stakes and not everyone can walk away (which so many other shows drop the ball on) so I felt that was well done and tugged at the heartstrings.

Season finale was excellent. I hope we don't have to wait too long for the next season. 🤞

I agree great episode, but unfortunately it hasn't been renewed yet. Surprisingly more of a toss-up as to whether or not that happens than I originally realized.
Just when it's gathering steam. 'Twould be a shame for them to pull the plug on this and continue on with the Rings of Power IMHO.

This show is so much better than Rings of Power

The first season of this was a little tough to get through, especially being a long time fan of the books. Season 2 was better. There are still things I am having a hard time getting over, such as the portrayal of Loial, character ommission / blending, etc. I do appreciate that they are trying to distill into the essence of the story and are hitting major points, even if they are getting there in different ways. Matt’s spear, the wound in Rand’s side, etc. There’s a bit much and it feels like they try to sledgehammer certain things into place. Season 2 was much improved, and I am now looking forward to binging season 3.

IMO, season 3 has been by far & away the best of the lot. Enjoy!

I didn't read the books so have no basis for comparison... but I do agree that S3 stepped up. each season has gotten progressively better. Also feels like the main young group's acting has also gotten progressively better... or maybe it's only about the characters development and they were meant to play it as inexperienced and not convincing actors in S1.

Season 3 was really good and it finally got up to where I was hoping, quality wise, it would be from the start. And I agree with El Floppo on the acting from the young folks getting better each season and episode. My only constant nit is the actor portraying Lan does that low, gruff Batman style of speaking that is all the rage these days but he lays it on thick and it just grates on me. grrr...

Disappointing to hear it may not be renewed now that I'm finally invested all the way.

Rosamund Pike’s portrayal of Moiraine also took a while to settle in. Really hoping that takes a good turn, and that we get some Thom Merrilin in the series.

I was reading more about this and I think the death knell here was that the way the rights to WoT worked was complicated. Essentially unlike Rings of Power (which Amazon owns the rights to fully) they were essentially partner to the rights to WoT from Sony.

My guess is Sony knew the ball was in their court and threw out way overly aggressive terms. They have a history of being real A-holes with IPs they have but can't properly monetize themselves (look what they've done with Spiderman).

I think if Amazon fully owned the rights, they would have kept going.
